STATEMENT BY AN NFL SPOKESPERSON:

Tanard Jackson of the Washington Redskins has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Jackson’s suspension begins immediately.

Yes it is. Its a joke that anyone, and I mean ANYONE trusted that this wouldn't happen again. ****ing loser.

I wouldn't call him a loser--he clearly has a substance abuse problem and needs help.

It is a shame, though. I was really looking forward to seeing him play in the 4th quarters of the preseason games.

Although it doesn't come as a surprise, I still am shaking my head; what an idiot! Way to throw your career away.

Better that he does it now, rather than 8 weeks from now. I would actually be annoyed about it if he looked good in pre-season and pulled that again.

At best, he would have been found money. Just turned out that the money was from Monopoly on this one.

Yeah, he needs help alright. Help finding a job now that he's thrown away a very lucrative career. For the third time.

I just can't feel sorry for people with resources and the means to get help. Now he'll be unemployed and it'll be up to the taxpayers to pay for his rehabilitation down the road after he goes to jail at least once. Bleh.

This teams decisions make my skin crawl sometimes. Fark!

Time to bring in Quintin Mikell for a look-see. He is fairly good and even though he is a bit old, he is clean.

Shi - got to agree. He clearly lacks self-control at an epic level. Better now than later. And sorry for the vague thread title - an exception just seemed called for for some reason.

Since this thread is not a joke - can I go ahread and make one ?

When the Redskins asked Jackson to return to Free Safety, he thought they actually said to "return to free-basing"

I was about to call you fansince! :anonymous:

so...at safety positions....we have:

- a second year player with no first year experience coming off an injury

- a second year player who was toasted as a first year player...often

- a hit artist whose singular strength is getting fined

- an aging vet who wasn't all that great the first time around in DC

kinda explains why they were looking at Jackson in the first place. kinda explains why they hope to amp up the blitz packages. I'm not at all convinced this defense will improve all that much. can't be worse than last season of course.....but how much more improved?

Meriweather at 30 years of age, and Clark both are place holders. Obviously, we could not fill every need with a partial slate of draft picks and still recovering from cap penalties. But we did improve our pass rush ability and that's going to make our secondary look better than it did last year.

I don't hold out much hope for Rambo - he WAS a 6th round pick for God's sake - and having a cool name doesn't help you cover people. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see him on this roster in 2 years.

Phillip Thomas can play though. I think I'd characterize him a little more positively than you did, as a promising rookie (essentially). He had a horrific 2011 injury (broken left leg and badly dislocated left ankle) and then of course the Lisfranc injury again on the left side last year. If he can overcome the injury thing, he is going to be a hell of a player imho.

Your optimism is duly noted and appreciated. but let's be honest about the facts - Thomas hasn't done ANYTHING yet! there are no grounds at all for thinking positively. the best one can say is that there are no grounds for thinking negatively either. Hatcher hasn't hit the field yet and...like Porter...is already an injury on the mend. Fletch is gone and the hope is to replace him with yet another injury prone player. Murphy...well....let's hope he turns out to be a player. at the moment he is just another unknown.

we'll hear all the Haz/media spin about an upgrade pass rush. I see one new player on the d-line and that's it. the rest is all about scheme change, Shanahan being an anchor, etc.

I can see this defense moving up from the bottom to around 20th territory....prior to seeing them in actual games. but, beyond that, I think this unit remains the major uncertainty on this team. special teams is a much easier fix.

Well, I guess my question would be - if there's no call to spin all of our safety situation negatively - why are you spinning our safety situation so negatively :) I think we can all agree the safety position is one of the glaring weaknesses on this team looking at it longterm.

Meriweather and Clark are clearly stop gaps because we couldn't fill our needs with young players. Rambo - he'll be given a season or two to demonstrate whether he can learn the mental side of the game and turn into a reliable guy. I see no evidence of it so far, but he WAS a rookie (and we are incredibly impatient with rookies). Thomas has major talent - if he can stay healthy. He has overcome a lot to even be in the conversation, I just wouldn't be so quick to write him off.

And fan - weren't you the guy chastising me for my overall negativity a couple months back?

But did we really have to spend our highest pick on our strongest position, rather than go through yet another miserable (or questionable at best) Safety situation, this year ?
I like Trent Murphy, but he's a luxury and not a need on this team, relatively speaking
