I think the worst owner of 2022 was Dan Synder. Luckily that is not an option anymore. So, who is the worst owner going into 2025? Here is a list of teams and NFL owners:
  • Arizona Cardinals: Michael Bidwill
  • Atlanta Falcons: Arthur Blank
  • Baltimore Ravens: Steve Bisciotti
  • Buffalo Bills: Terry and Kim Pegula
  • Carolina Panthers: David Tepper
  • Chicago Bears: Virginia Halas McCaskey
  • Cincinnati Bengals: Mike Brown
  • Cleveland Browns: Jimmy and Dee Haslam
  • Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones
  • Denver Broncos: Rob Walton
  • Detroit Lions: Sheila Ford Hamp
  • Green Bay Packers: Green Bay Packers, Inc.
  • Houston Texans: Cal McNair
  • Indianapolis Colts: Jim Irsay
  • Jacksonville Jaguars: Shahid Khan
  • Kansas City Chiefs: Clark Hunt
  • Las Vegas Raiders: Mark Davis
  • Los Angeles Chargers: Dean Spanos
  • Los Angeles Rams: Stan Kroenke
  • Miami Dolphins: Stephen Ross
  • Minnesota Vikings: Zygi Wilf
  • New England Patriots: Robert Kraft
  • New Orleans Saints: Gayle Benson
  • New York Giants: John Mara and Steve Tisch
  • New York Jets: Woody and Christopher Johnson
  • Philadelphia Eagles: Jeffrey Lurie
  • Pittsburgh Steelers: Rooney family (Art Rooney II)
  • San Francisco 49ers: Denise DeBartolo York and Jed York
  • Seattle Seahawks: Jody Allen
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Glazer family (Bryan Glazer)
  • Tennessee Titans: Amy Adams Strunk
  • Washington Commanders: Josh Harris

The poll didn't let me have 32-choices, so I took Josh Harris off, because... well... duh.
I also took the Green Bay Packers off.
I left everyone else on, even though I think all/most will agree:
Jeff Lurie is not.
Hunt is not.
- you pretty much can't make the Super Bowl and be the worst owner unless you have some serious controversies. They do not.
I don't think anyone is going to put Kraft / Pats.
- too many recent Super Bowls / success.
I think it's tempting to say Jerry, just because it's the Cowboys, and he is meddlesome, however I think their team has a fair amount of talent. He is not the owner Snyder was. Snyder was just the reverse-Midas, he would turn gold into sewage. Jones is not that, in a lot of ways. He is a slimeball from a lot of accounts, but he certainly knows how to market and shmooze which Snyder did not, and his team definitely has had some talent.

I think for me, it's probably the Browns. I think Haslam has been involved in some controversies, although they haven't stuck yet. So I guess that part isn't the sinker it was with Snyder. The football decisions, however, are just on a level of putrid that can't be ignored.

MS Copilot claims Stephen Ross (Miami) has the biggest controversies, with tampering and offering incentives to lose games. I don't know, that's really bad, but for me I still pick Haslam as the worst owner. I am curious what others think.

I'd say that the Browns, Panthers, Jets, Dolphins, and Chargers owners are all bad but since the Browns cut Mayfield to sign Watson to that ridiculous contract they are probably the winners.

It's just that some of those other owners have been bad for a lot longer. Spanos was so hated that the fans pretty much forced him to move to LA where they had no fans.

Giants ought to be a competitor for this. They really were a CF this year. Jets would be my second choice. They let Aaron Rodgers run the show and it ran the team into the ground.

It's got to be either the Jets or the Browns. Both organizations have been wandering in the desert for decades with massively bad ownership decisions continuing to ensure that will continue. The Jets mortgaging everything for a washed up coach-killing lockerroom cancer Aaron Rodgers has been a disaster of epic proportions.

The one thing I'll say for the Browns is that they haven't doubled down on Deshawn Watson the way the Jets did Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has been able to dictate his roster and force trades like he was an NBA superstar. On the other hand, the Browns did extend Watson in December instead of ripping off the band aid. So... the competition for dumbest is ongoing.

How great does it feel not to even think about Washington on this list!!!

I selected the JETS, they are effed.
Well, I would never even want to think about this from 2000 - 2022! Yes, there is no universe where Washington sniffs this list. Amazing feeling. Snyder simply never cared. It was HIS toy, always. The best owners still own the teams, but they consider some of that as a public trust. I think the best *PEOPLE* in general have that kind of outlook. Their actions are at least at times looked at through a societal lens.

Anyway - as for the Jets; yes, I picked the Browns, but right now the Jets look like they are in worse shape.

I am amazed that Glenn chose Scott Turner as his passing game coordinator, given the statistical evidence. Scott has had his hand in offenses that tend to finish 20+ in the league. I feel like at that point, someone without experience is a better choice; I question the value he would bring. Word is, he will be there to provide "experience" - I mean, they didn't name him OC - but... what is the value there? Seems strange. The Glenn move - I was looking to see the good/bad signs. That one may make me think they are headed downward. Of course, Myles Garrett just publicized a trade request.

Whoever voted Tepper; I like that vote. That is a guy who threw a tantrum at fans, right? That is pretty uniquely bad actually. He stands out in a bad way there, and for a "worst NFL owner" list -- that should be a particularly strong case.

The one thing I have to grudgingly give Mara is he seems to sort of be trying to stay out of the way. I think he is more involved than he wants to appear, but yes, he cedes a good amount of authority I believe. Making bad decisions like keeping Schoen around or things like that, I don't think it makes him a bad owner. Even acting unfairly and like a jerk towards our team, yeah that makes him a bad owner for sure (especially as an NFL owner) - but yes, I think there are worse. It's good to think there is a growing contingent of fans (including in NY and in the media) who are starting to consider him on the fringes of this list though. I have been getting that sense.

The great thing about the Jets is the involvement of the teenage kids. Woody says they aren't in the decision process but he does admit to bringing them around the facility to show them the ropes; I think he called it training. To me, that's just wild. That's hilarious, man. Tepper, Johnson, and Haslam are all right there for me. I think this is fun mainly because our guy is nowhere on this list for the first time in at least 20 years. 20 years ago, they were thinking about him for lists like this, but back then the team was one of the first $1B franchises. So, that was a significant caveat. Also, it was considered a plus that he opened the pocketbook and seemed to try to please fans (the beginning of Gibbs 2 around that time). None of these guys has any caveats that help them in their cases for WORST.
