I've had days like this...

<Sammitch> I wish people would actually *read* email bounces instead of throwing their hands up in the air and dismissing it as "technical gobbledegook"
<Sammitch> "this bounce says that it was rejected because of the content, and that I should revise it to not look like spam. wat do?"
<Sammitch> "you should revise it to not look like spam." "ok, thanks."
<Sammitch> "this bounce says that the mailbox doesn't exist and I should check my spelling"
<Sammitch> "this bounce says their mailbox is full, what does it mean?"
<Sammitch> oh, *that* one means I should come upstairs and start beating you with a rubber hose until you learn to read.
 
Job hunt is on my mind so much that I'm not sleeping well. The 2 recent opportunities are both looking good. Of course the permanent role that I want the most is the one I'm competing with my good friend with. He's very good and I fear more technically qualified for it. However, I have more leadership experience and live an hour or more closer to the office. To me its a coin flip, but man I want it bad!

The second is a 6 month contract but high pay and with a great company. I wouldn't mind it but the temporary nature sucks.
 
OK, I need advice. Just was offered a good job, high pay, but a contract role. 6 months but probable extension options. I have a 3rd interview scheduled for Friday for a perm job that I really, really, want more. That one is down to me and another guy who is a friend and he is highly qualified for too. The contract role needs to know my answer tomorrow and could start as soon as this week. Dilemma!
 
I would take the contract one and if the other one came up quit and go to that one. Employers have no loyalty to employees anymore, they should expect the same in return.
 
Yeah, I'm with HOF. I hate to agree, but he is correct. Try to be as professional and courteous as possible to not burn any bridges if necessary, but I can't see passing up something guaranteed for the possibility of something else.

When you accept, tell them you have a doctor appointment already scheduled for Friday.

Thanks guys, that's all where my mind is too. It does tweek my ethics button a little, but I've been upfront with the recruiter at least on the whole dilemma too. They probably shouldn't get surprised if I have to jump ship. Its a good dilemma!
 
The fact that 'they need to know right away' and that they cant guarantee anything beyond 6 months should eliminate any sense of guilt you might have.

It's also contract, meaning they can fire you at any time for any reason. You can also quit at any time for any reason, it's the nature of hiring contractors.

If the other job offers you a position, you can go to the current gig and say make me permanent or I'm bailing also... maybe everyone can win! Assuming your good friend is second choice.

I accepted the contract role and even negotiated a little higher pay. Its not the ideal but its with a great company in a new industry for me (major utilities company that you would recognize), it will be excellent for the resume and a good chance for contract extensions. I'm still going to do the final interview with the perm role that I mentioned just in case, but otherwise I will embrace this new challenge fully. Time to kick this life back into gear!

Had some licensing issues and some stuff is being returned to a vendor.

On the online portal they listed our licenses as: 2 B Returned

Really?....
 
I have a little envy for those of you that don't have to account for your time on a daily basis by filling out a time card with your time allotted to projects.

It's very tedious and can be frustrating and confusing to keep track of things that way when you're not working on large projects but instead bouncing from task to task to task.

Yeah, I am blessed to have a boss who simply cares about results and let's me do my thing to get those results. He is not a micro-manager with me. The reality is, he knows nothing about technology so...

It's perfect because I make my own schedule and am able to do my own stuff on the side...sometimes mid-week if I need to.
 
I never thought I'd say this but...yay! I get to go to work! First day at the contract gig. Still hoping for the other to come through, but this will sure do in the meantime!
 
Go get 'em, brother! Wow them, and you never know what will happen.
