This thread is not about the name, but discussing all things related to the Commanders brand.

What you like, what you don’t like, and how to make improvements.

I will get started.

I like the W. I like it on the helmet. I would prefer the helmet have a gold face mask and the white stripes like the old Redskins helmet. I would prefer a gold W be on black helmet other than the numbers.

I like the crest, both the black jersey one and the one with the Championships.

I do not like the uniforms in all one color. The playoff variation was nice, my favorite is the burgundy with gold pants. I would like to see the black jersey with burgundy pants. I’m not a fan of the lines over and under the Commanders name. I know why they did it…I still don’t like it.

Incorporating a shield with crossed spears into the brand somehow would be pretty cool.

LIKE:
  • Major Tuddy is kind of amusing
  • Commanders, while not a great name, is ok; fun to root for the Commies!

DISLIKE:
  • Uniforms:
    • On the whites, the red is not burgundy and there is no gold whatsoever
    • The black unis don't have a strong identifying element that says Commanders

SUGGEST:
  • Bring back gold face masks
  • Re-design uniforms to ensure each has burgundy and gold, and that they are clearly identifiable as ours (in a good way)
    • One option is to reinstate the classic unis with bold striping and correct colors
    • Or, we could modernize them, but avoid something meant to be futuristic that ends up looking cheap/amateurish
  • For the love of God, please, please, please avoid stupid numeral fonts like Atlanta, Tennessee, Seattle, Minnesota
  • Step up the alternate helmet game to compete with Detroit's black helmets, Indy's black ones, Houston's red helmets

I like Major Tuddy. I know he’s been polarizing but I see him for what he is. A way to connect with the kids and he wears the classic uniform. He is a tribute to the Hogs. Tuddy is fine.

Do you think Tuddy is a nod to the older fans? I mean he's sportin' the dad bod.

One thing I can't get over with Major Tuddy is this: for many years I was in a band; we toured the US and EU, put out albums, etc., and we were road warriors. As you'd expect there were lots of inside jokes and code words that developed from all the time spent traveling together. The code word for boobs was tuds. So, Major Booby makes me laugh every time.

Thoughts:
- I hate the W logo.
- Specifically the white uniform tops look like JUCO budget slop. The ketchup and mustard uniforms look like a hot dog. I don't hate them as much as the white jersey's with dots for numbers.
- Bram has said over and over he has been told it's the same color pallet. I believe he's been told that. I'm not sure if he's being lied to or not. One thing, though: colors look different when they are next to other colors. So it is possible it's the same pallet but looks different because of the way they combine them. So, change something so the colors look more traditional.
- I personally don't like yellow pants. They're not gold. They're yellow. Never liked them. Reminds me of Bruce. Who loved them. I didn't live through the time the team was good when they wore yellow pants. (When his dad was coach.)
- I'm in the minority: I like the black uniforms as an alternate. Not all the time. I don't like the stupid W on the front of the black helmet. But I don't like the stupid W at all.
- I don't care one way or the other about Major Tuddy.
- I'd love to see them bring the old logo back somehow in "throwback" merchandise. I'm not sure how they do that, but I'd like to see them do that.
- I'd like to see them go to a look that is a refreshed, updated look they had in the 80's when they were winning SBs. They used to wear white at home. I'm not sure when that changed, if they could fix the white look, I personally like that. I think the only team which wears white at home (other than when we used to) are the Cowboys. I really liked the idea of putting the Cowboys in their blues when they came here. They just didn't look as much like the Cowboys. This could be because of what I grew up with.

I imagine they own the whole San Antonio Commanders brand so why not develop a Logo like this for Washington D.C. replace the Alamo? with D.C. Fix the colors and instead of a sword use crossed spears.

What's irritating to me is that the most obvious and logical tie-in to "Commanders" is one that due to the modern mindset we will most likely never see.

George Washington was the first Commander-in-Chief of the United States. The district is named for this man. Yet, because of a prevailing point of view about history I doubt such a branding scheme will ever be attempted. There is great potential here, but, alas, its potential will most likely remain untapped.

I prefer the W over everything I have seen so far since the focus is on Washington.

Helmets stripes, yellow facemask, and get rid of the matte finish closer to the classic look would go a long way on how I feel about the uniforms in general. I could possibly get on board with the crest on the helmet in lieu of the W as long as it is closer to classic colors and stays a circle about the size of the classic logo.

White uniforms need to be incinerated and start over. I don’t think I have ever loathed an inanimate object like I do those. I was apoplectic when they were revealed and to me they are still a symbol what they killed then tried to pretend never existed. There were so many ways to update but harken back to the classics and someone leaned into the opposite as much as they could short of actually changing the official team colors.

Black uniforms I don’t care because I will always hate them but am stuck with them

Uniform pants and jersey different colors- always. I prefer Gibbs era, but am good with other eras.

I assume we have settled on Commanders being Army since we have Major Tuddy (who I like). A Commander is a Commissioned Officer with specific command authority for a company sized unit and larger so it is not a “rank” but a status. You could have a 1LT as a Company Commander but the status usually starts at CPT and can up to a GO. Fortunately, that gives some play and I hope some much more creative people than I come up with some good ideas. Couldn’t do a General’s Star in circle because that is too close to the Cowboys. However, a gold full Bird Colonel Eagle in a circle could be interesting though not color accurate. However, a Major – like Tuddy, is a Gold Oak Leaf like our team colors and I would be interested in some mock-ups of that.

I am open to other new logos outside of Army stuff on the helmet, However, I must be honest – what I want more than anything is something in a circle that from a farther distance I can pretend is the classic logo.

Classic logo on throwbacks including one game a season is my deepest desire and probably a pipe dream.

I like the idea of the Major Gold Oak Leaf and then I was looking for famous Majors. One of the first to pop up was Major Marcus Reno who "commanded" three companies tasked with wiping out Sioux at the Little Horn. We live in such a ridiculous time.. But I digress...

The taco W is ok for me. The uniforms I just don’t care much about, but I’d like to see a darker burgundy instead of the current reddish color.

The burgundy and gold coloring or accent coloring need to be returned in some form to all uni's, logo's and gear.

Not everybody views our nations history the same, which is why it is best we stay away from specific people with the brand. Everybody has a grievance or opinion about everything.

Nothing saps the joy or fun out of a discussion quicker than political/social slants or negative historical perspectives…let’s keep that out of this thread.

Re the logo

Compare the two logos above.

I have two problems with the new one.

1) It's boring. It's mundane. It's unimaginative. It's too modern-looking for a team founded in 1932. It looks like an expansion team logo.

2) It's plain. There's nothing going on. Not enough colors. No detail.

Is it okay? Yeah, it's okay. Is okay good enough for our football team? I don't think so.
