The Race to Black Monday

And the rumor is they're also talking to Rex Ryan about becoming the defensive coordinator.
He hasn't coached in nine years and hasn't had a winning season in 15.
Ironically that'd be a reversal of the jets staff when he was head coach and schottenheimer was coordinator.

That duo seems like a train wreck waiting to happen.
Would hiring Rex Ryan be Jerry Jones version of hiring the Bingo caller?

Ya know it might be.
Jerry seems to be coming unglued a little, or maybe I just couldn't see it before because we had snyder who was so bad we were blind to the incompetence right next door.

I honestly can't decide if that's a smart move or a ridiculous one. Pete is a good coach who should bring stability. If he takes a CEO approach and hires really good coordinators, it could work out. The best part of it though is they didn't poach one of ours.

Intriguing get for the Jags. Their offense has been very good and Baker got a second life after almost becoming a perma-backup.

A little nugget from DA’s interview with Josh Harris in The Athletic today-

“Dan built an amazing staff — we’re trying to keep it together right now.”

Was that Dave Canales or liam Coen who is responsible for his revival though?

Honestly don't know. I'm guessing you think it was Canales. I don't follow the Bucs that closely. I know they were good offensively last year and this year... that's about the sum of my knowledge lol

NFL success always takes multiple ingredients.
Brady was connected to TB, and they just hired the TB assistant GM. Possibly connected. *That move* - combined with this move, combined with what they do together... we'll see.

The Seahawks had a lot of success because Schneider is a good GM and worked well with Carroll and his staff out of the gate.

My guess is their new GM may work out. I share your doubt on Carroll. A lot will probably hinge on his staff. It will be interesting to see if he goes with nepo-style hires or hires that have actual proven success and quality in recent times.

The Carroll hiring makes me immediately wonder about Ken Norton Jr. He was previously Pete’s DC in Seattle.

I wouldn't say I have much of an opinion on it.

Canales got him first and created an offense around him that was extremely successful and Coen did an excellent job of keeping that going.
If Coen was with the bucs in 23 it'd be a toss up but since he wasn't I'd probably lean Canales as being the primary person responsible for mayfields turnaround.

But he fired him which I would think makes him an unlikely candidate to be poached.

What have you done for me lately. Whoa.

Wow! There was a point I wanted to roll the dice on him for our HC after Johnson and McDonald flamed out. I was pretty intent on us getting the next young gun. I certainly did not want another retread like Quinn :D

Shows how much we know right.
It's crazy the difference a year makes.

I was shouting it from the rooftops on the previous site where I lived - Slowik wasn't the one who worked magic for Stroud and that offense. It was Bill Lazor. Most of the tuned-in GMs knew that, but it also became clear when he had his HC interviews.

The Raiders have made an excellent hire. Carroll is a great coach who can still do it.
