Ben Johnson, that would be tampering and I doubt they would do that because if they get caught, it could nuke the franchise for a while.

I said down low just because they don't want to violat the Rooney Rule. Vrabel is going to end up there.

Eh. Yeah. I could see them making a HUGE push for Ben Johnson (as somebody else posted above.) Johnson + Maye might be a really good situation.

If I were them, I'd definitely look for an offensive coach to pair with Maye. He has shown flashes, and I think he could be very good. I was one of the few who was actually higher on him than Daniels coming out. I was wrong. But I still think he has a ton of talent.

Vrabel makes the most sense with the dot connecting. But I could see Ben Johnson.

We'll see.

We still only have 5 open coaching positions:
Patriots
Jets
Saints
Chicago
Jaguars

The only one of those jobs which I think is really enticing is the Patriots. They have a stable organization, second year QB with talent, and some high draft picks.

The Jets are a mess, the Jags have coach killer hippy Lawrence, the Saints have Carr + his contract, Chicago is not a great organization and has (potentially) a bit of a diva at QB. And the Jets are the new Snyder Redskins. (Tied with the Browns, I think).

For our purposes, I can't see Kliff going to any one of those organizations. I also think if Ben Johnson doesn't get the Pats job, he's going to stay as OC of the Lions.

Jets, Bears, Jags are always on this list. Saints feel like they're returning to the pre-Brees/Payton days of the Aints. It feels so good to be out of that perpetual cycle of suck
 
It's CRAZY that Baalke still has a job, just nuts! Maybe, though, one of the HC candidates will make his firing a pre-condition for taking the job. If I were on the market, I'd never work under that guy.

It was reported that Leftwich wanted him gone if he was to take the job and Khan chose to keep Baalke and gave Doug the job instead.

Khan just seems like a bad owner, not in the Snyder sense but more in the clueless sense.
 
Reporters today asked Khan, point blank, if he thought that having Baalke around would negatively affect the team's ability to get quality candidates. He's clueless, but then again Baalke knows how to cozy up to ownership
 
NFL network says bears have a long list of requests for HC interviews which doesn't include Kliff, but does include M MaCarthy.
 
Khan has modified things a bit; new HC will report to him, not Baalke. Doesn't matter, you can't have that dude in the building. Unless he's ushered out the door, they'll end up hiring someone who's just grateful to be (re)hired as a HC and won't care that Baalke is there.
 
I wonder if Vrabel will have his choice of the Raiders and New England. Raiders have the Brady connection.

I doubt Ben Johnson would go to any of the open jobs except the Patriots.

I wonder if Kraft has just already decided he’s hiring Vrabel, or he’s going to interview him first, and then do a phone interview with Ben Johnson, and o don’t think that can happen until next week? There are those wacky rules about when teams can interview which coaches who are employed. I knew them last year but purposely forgot them.

This is going to be interesting to see how things play out.

Doug Pederson is going to turn up somewhere as an OC.

I’m not sure if any of the other fired HCs will land as coordinators.

I was thinking about that and wasn't sure if I would hate the idea of hiring Pederson as our OC if we lost Kingsbury. In the short term, it doesn't look like that's a bridge we have to cross. Then again, maybe Kliff's name isn't coming up simply because teams can't talk to him.

I think they have a succession plan in place for when Kliff leaves. One big thing Quinn learned in Atlanta.

And they’ll want to keep the offense and terminology the same regardless of the OC, so it’s going to be somebody on this staff.

Doug’s offense is off of the Reid tree. That’s a pretty big verbiage change from Kliff’s tree.

That was true here is well. But I wasn’t one. Hell, I had McCarthy rated above Maye. It’ll be fun seeing it all play out.

It's certainly looking like an all time great quarterback draft, maybe even better than 83 when it all shakes out.

One thing that's driving me nuts though is the incessant need for some to paint one guy as really good and therefore criticizing the others in order to do it.
I got a buddy of mine who keeps telling me bo nix is a better qb, he's going to win offensive rookie of the year and will have a better career than jayden and then I gotta come in with the advanced stats to show that doesn't look to be the current evidence in front of us.
all the while I love what I've seen out of Bo nix and don't want to criticize him at all, I think he absolutely has the potential to have a better career but there's no reason to believe that right now other than gut feelings and tingly hairs on necks.

It's crazy, you talk to bears fans it's the same thing, Only Willams versus daniels.

Agreed. I think the 2024 QB Class will be remembered as an historically good one.

Coming out of 2012, RG3, Luck, and RWilson were thought to potentially make for an amazing draft of QBs. Turns out only one lived up to the hype, while Kirk had a better career than two of them to bring better cred to the 2012 class.

It's definitely hard to predict and fun to watch it play out. A lot of the randomness comes from injuries as well as team-fit. At the end of the day, that is why Eli pulled his kind of nonsense move when he was drafted. I call it nonsense because he pulled it off, and I get it, but if everyone did that it would just be turmoil. I feel like he took way less heat for that than almost ANYONE else would have, and also find that a bit unfair. I am not saying he didn't take any heat, I know he did - but I feel like people would be asterisking almost anyone else constantly for it.

Shoddy analysis by fans and media personalities alike. It's an easier story to digest when it's focused on one guy being "the guy." It's part of the same reason that the QB position gets as much attention as it does. The position is the most important, and it is the most visible, but it's also true that from a marketing perspective, it's a lot easier to market the one leader/dude rather than a bunch of dudes.
