Mike Tomlin is a confident guy. He believes he can coach almost any player out there and get more out of him than his current club.

I have no doubt Mike is looking at Russell Wilson and envisioning a veteran quarterback that can run the offense under control and get the Steelers that extra 1 or 2 wins to put them back in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh usually doesn't bring in high profile vets from other teams, but they have in recent years traded a #1 pick to acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins and signed 34 year old veteran corner Patrick Peterson from the Cardinals.

So, they do make exceptions.

"If this game were just all about talent...I mean...Jamall Russell would be in the Hall of Fame."
 
Wilson will do well there. Tomlin gets the most out of his players and guys tend to toe the line in Pittsburgh.

But, from a Pittsburgh perspective, what's not to like?

Wilson is making $1.2M from them for 2024, that's basically a rookie contract.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are paying $40M :rotflmao:

Payton also just traded Jerry Jeudy, a #1 pick in 2020, and a 4.3 guy for a #5 draft pick.

That's not value for a receiver that may not be putting up CeeDee Lamb numbers but has been productive and has been playing in dysfunctional offenses over the past couple of years where the QB and coach are at odds with one another.
