The Name Change

Tom Jackson is nothing more than Berman's bitch. **** both of them

you know....what's needed is some opposition investigation. some real probing of what these voices of "virtue" actually do with their money and time. publish it.....everywhere on the Internet. hell....put a book together and title it "We are the Hypocrisy We've Been Waiting For". if they want to go after people and organizations....fine. time to play rough. let's put the microscope on everyone.

I stopped reading the post some time ago so they stopped getting my money already. I'd like to see the front office not grant any special privileges/access to folks running there mouth about them. I know that I own a business and would not be giving special prices and such to people doing the same to my wife and I, Then again my wife and I don't exactly own a multi billion dollar business, were slightly smaller. ;-)

Coolz did a helluva job on that crap show. Steven A. Smith is as worthless as tits on a nun.

Captain Chaos, still kicking ass and taking names.

Of course, there where more brains and honesty in the dump I took this morning, than is possessed by either Bayliss, or The Mouth.

Still, good job Chris.

Yeah. Cooley's been making the rounds this week on lots of their shows and doing a really nice defending the name and himself. He's been standing up to the uninformed idiots all week.

My only quibble with the interview with SAS is that Cooley should have asked him if maybe Native Americans bear some responsibility for finding the name Redskins offensive themselves?

Asshole.

You know this is all the Governments fault. They created the Indian Head Cent and have history on establishing the image of a warrior brave as an icon of freedom and liberty. They set the precedent.

From wiki:

Coin designer Longacre advocated for his Indian Head design in an August 21, 1858 letter to Snowden:

From the copper shores of Lake Superior, to the silver mountains of Potosi from the Ojibwa to the Aramanian, the feathered tiara is as characteristic of the primitive races of our hemisphere, as the turban is of the Asiatic. Nor is there anything in its decorative character, repulsive to the association of Liberty … It is more appropriate than the Phrygian cap, the emblem rather of the emancipated slave, than of the independent freeman, of those who are able to say “we were never in bondage to any man”. I regard then this emblem of America as a proper and well defined portion of out national inheritance; and having now the opportunity of consecrating it as a memorial of Liberty, 'our Liberty’, American Liberty; why not use it? One more graceful can scarcely be devised. We have only to determine that it shall be appropriate, and all the world outside of us cannot wrest it from us.[9]

Regardless of who posed for Longacre, the facial features of the "Indian" are essentially Caucasian, meaning that a White woman wears the headdress of a Native American man. Longacre had, in 1854, designed the three-dollar piece with a female with similar features (also supposedly based on the museum sculpture) but a more fanciful headdress, and adapted that design for the gold dollar.[13] Officials were aware of this artistic license at the time of issue; Snowden, in his November 1858 letter to Cobb, characterizes the two earlier coins as "the artists at the Mint evidently not realizing the absurd incongruity of placing this most masculine attribute of the warrior brave on the head of a woman".[13] Longacre would not be the last to juxtapose the features of a White woman with an Indian headdress reserved for men; Augustus Saint Gaudens, for the Indian Head eagle (1907), produced a similar design. Later issues depict more accurate Indians, including Bela Lyon Pratt's Indian Head gold pieces (1908), the Buffalo nickel (1913) by James Earle Fraser, who worked from Native American models, and the Oregon Trail Memorial half dollar (1926), designed by Fraser and his wife Laura.[14][15]

Art historian Cornelius Vermeule had mixed emotions about the Indian Head cent, "Longacre enriched the mythology of American coinage in a pleasant if unpretentious fashion. Given his pattern half-dollar designs of 1859 as a yardstick, he could have done worse."[16] In another comparison, Vermeule suggested, "far from a major creation aesthetically or iconographically, and far less attractive to the eye than the [flying eagle], the Indian head cent was at least to achieve the blessing of popular appeal. The coin became perhaps the most beloved and typically American of any piece great or small in the American series. Great art the coin was not, but it was one of the first products of the United States mints to achieve the common touch."[16

I wore my hail to the R word shirt today around a bunch of different and diverse people and every one of them laughed and called it a stupid idea to change it

I've never met a single person who seriously thought the name should be changed. I think those polls are rigged where they say 10-15% think the name is racist. Or maybe they polled a bunch of Cowboys, Giants, or Eagles fans that want us to change it to Deadskins finally.

Mike Ditka said the other day he thought it was a huge joke and Snyder should never even consider changing the name. I sure didn't see that spread all over BSPN, which happens to be where Ditka works. No mention of it on their website. They really want us to believe that everybody hates the name but in reality only a handful of blow hard idiots are against it in reality.

The only positive in this hub bub has been the insane ease it is to blow away the oppositions argument with nothing more than simple facts. I don't think I've ever had a debate stance that was more cogent, clear and concise in a controversy, ever. Just today, a fraternity brother from yesteryear started trying to tell me how racist the name was. This guy is as aggressive of a liberal and very passionate and generally able to structure very tough positions to poke holes in on most subjects. I couldn't believe the ease it took to destroy his position very publicly.

You know, all Snyder needs to say publicly about this, is "There is no solid basis for the name being offensive".
Anything else he says will just energize the opposition.
Number one, when you get completely ridiculous accusations, you give credence to their cause by going out of your way to address them.
Number two, most of his responses are easily spun by the opposition to use against him/the team.

So just say, "There is no justification, period". End of story.

In other words, instead of aggressively defending the name, basically say "Show me the proof it's offensive, first"

We need to let the league know that if the name of our team is changed, we will not attend games, nor buy any merchandise associated with the new team. With the Redskins being one of the bigger contributors to the profit sharing, loss of revenue will effect the league as a whole. I'd bet a petition with a half million signatures would have the league taking a far more proactive stance in defending our name. Think about it, an all out boycott of a new team in DC. The trickle down effect would be huge.

The problem is, there are way too many spineless fans that are willing to just take what their given...

How do we let them know anyways? Is there a person to email or someone to call directly?

You are dead right about the spineless ones...

The way everything circulates around the net, I have no doubt an online petition would find it's way to the league office.... one way or another.

One of yall internet savvy guys needs to start the petition, there is no doubt that tons of other teams fans would sign it also.
