The Gruden Files - Year Two

If Cousins showed half the fight, singleminded focus and determination that many here do I would feel much better about him.

If gruden could come up with half the brain power most have here I'd be happy. He seems lost out there and always out coached.

Wow... I thought we rooted FOR the name on the front of the jersey and the logo on the helmet... general statement, no targeting here

Where I'm from its like this

Brother vs brother
Brothers vs parents
Family vs block
Block vs neighborhood

Believe me, come Sunday I trust you and I will unite side by side.

Not you brother... it's 4 pages of arguing about who sucked more even though everyone came into this season claiming tempered expectations. It's the argument of this guy sucks, screw him... that guy is still wearing my colors

Oh, I know not me personally. I'm just stating where I come from.

I'll root for cousins on Sundays..

I know you will. What kills me is the glee people get when we fail and they were 'right' when they predicted it, because it can be justified that they were 'right.' Its why the arguments continue to find their way to RG3, Shanahan, and the most recent flavor.... Sexy Rexy.

yup. no fan ever adopted a position on a player...and every fan operates on perfect information!

glee, of course, is an emotion. how, for example, can you distinguish from a post whether someone is "gleeful" or "vengeful" or "angry" or "frustrated" or "amused" or, maybe even, correct? is it tone? is it diction? is it conflict with your own emotions/disposition?

you are also exercising the liberty of impugning an individual's character - i.e., their motives, their psychological needs (ego). that's cool. but it strikes me that is itself an act of superiority in some respects. I have no problem, btw, with your doing so. just feel that should be properly categorized just like all the other natural human behaviors one sees on a blog/board.

It's not just this board... it's the fan base as a whole... and I didn't name any names or point any fingers, but you can feel it. You can see posts where the "I told you so" carries a heavier response than any meaningful conversation. Every fan is different, I appreciate that and I don't want everyone to agree with me... but there are clear instances where people are more excited about us losing because it supported their agenda, then they are when we win. I'm sorry I even said anything, got myself wrapped up and should have kept things to myself

not making light of something you find bothersome, but I personally don't care about such fan posts (not your posts in this thread). I have my own point of view and don't allow others to impact it. that's what I don't get at times - how anyone can allow someone else's post about football to bother them. my ire is only raised when there is a dimension of personal attack in a post.

anywho, I get it that your post ties into the general idea of the experience. I'd just chime in that the same applies to others who may strike you as unfair or overly sarcastic - for them, the experience equates to a release valve for frustration. again, as long as it doesn't move into the territory of personal assault, posts don't affect my emotional outlook.

I understand that, and for the most part I am with you. I just hate where this fanbase has gotten to. There are exponential reasons 'why' we've gotten to this point as a whole, but the fact that we are here really sucks sometimes. On the way home from the St Louis game, one of the people riding with me had a back and forth with a 'fan' who was borderline mad that we won, because he hates Gruden, and continues to support Griffin. He was upset that we had won because he wants Gruden fired and Griffin playing QB. That's completely insane to me. I hear it from callers on the radio, from the smear campaigns by local writers making fun of the 7 people that showed up to the sendoff for the game against NY. I'm sorry, again it was not my intent to get on a soap box... winning cures all right?

Its here too.. I am not going to start throwing names or posts out, because my point wasnt to attack individual opinions, just an observation of the stark, sarcastic, borderline self deprecating and player is bigger then team agendas people have, here and elsewhere.

Thursday night games on the road are as tough as it gets during the regular season. Personally I'm throwing that game out. Inexperienced head coach, inexperienced qb, etc. The result was far from a surprise.

Next week? Entirely different story.

I've been pretty quiet for a few weeks because I DON'T want to be that buzzkill. But seriously you and Boone have GOT to be kidding me. I truly admire your optimism and positive fire and until about a year ago I was pretty close to with you. But you two are throwing out a whole lot of broad brush commentary about those of us who are not only depressed about things but downright pissed off. I gave up my season tickets for Chrissakes!! I didn't do it because I wanted to, I did it because this team is an embarrassment and I can't even sell tickets to VERY good seats to games I don't go to.

Do me a favor and quit painting with the broad brush. If you have a beef with someone specific then be specific but this nonsense about those of us who are pissed when Gruden has ANY success right now are doing it because of our loyalty to one player is just wrong. It's not about loyalty to Griffin it's about seeing the problems on the team being way too big for the guy who's running it on the field to fix. It's about having seen enough to be convinced this team will never go anywhere with him as HC. (We FINALLY have a good GM here and Gruden is one of the last remnants of the previous incompetent regime). I am grouchy because I don't see much changing until that last piece is replaced like Griffin et al will be this offseason. I'm grouchy because the guy is a fool and for some reason he is getting a free pass on it.

The Griff bitching and Cousins bashing or as I like to call it "telling the truth about his performance" is just the most obvious example to use. We can go into a ton of other minutiae as well, either way ya still get labeled hater or something equivalently lame. Are there fans who are more interested in RG3 than the team? Sure, but I'm willing to bet that part of that sentiment comes from the fatigue of having watched this team screw over or ruin player after player after player and finally having enough. This team deserves misery, the fans don't and yea I'm still pretty pissed off about how RG3's been treated. When I keep reading justifications for Gruden and Cousins that are virtually identical to arguments that were largely shot down with Griffin it doesn't make it go back burner it re-agitates it and in many cases at this point actually makes me laugh. The revisionist history that is so rampant doesn't, it annoys.

This team is screwed in so many ways for at the very least this season. Don't expect me to put a shine on it and don't expect 1 solid game out of 3 (scoring ten points at home in a loss is NOT a good game for a QB in my book) to get the masses to start flipping. I will continue to root for the team and as pissed off as I am at them I still watch every down and still want them to win every down as much as I ever did. But don't tell me I'm nuts or a crappy fan or weak or need to put my big boy pants on for being pissed at any success Gruden has right now when I'm 100% convinced he is not only NOT a long term solution for this team but he's hopelessly in over his head in the short term too. You that are trying to put good face on things are to be commended for it but ya really gotta stop harping on those of us who aren't. We're not in this state for bad reasons, quite legitimate and time worn in fact.

As has been stated many times winning cures all. They do that and the grumpiness will start to disappear. If it doesn't and I stay grouchy or pessimistic I don't need to be told to put my big boy pants on. Life's too short, I've got better things to do with my time and yes I do eventually learn from repeated attempts to play with fire that I will indeed get burned. I'm in full on SHOW ME mode and will be until the team earns my "blind" loyalty back.

CT, none of my statements were at all directed towards people who are critical, angry, pissed off, or fed up with the team. Losing SUCKS. It hurts, and I hurt with you. I'm pissed off that we can't seem to run a functional organization. My statement had to do with people legitimately rooting AGAINST the team because they wanted to be right. The people who want us to fail, so their agenda can be proven. Again, I shouldn't have said anything... it was wrong of me to put it out there, like you said, because the broad brush was hypocritical in itself, using sarcasm and negativity to make my own point. For that I am sorry.

Anyone who is a fan of this team over the past 20 years, or who became a fan in the last 20 years, and still cares, should be respected and applauded no matter their opinion.

Anyone who actively roots for a loss to somehow justify those opinions deserves to be a Cowboys fan.

Hey CT - put your big boy pants on.

I keed :) Only reply I really have is, sorry if I've made overly-aggressive or rude posts to anyone in the past few days. My apologies. As I told CT in PM, I am an owner, but I am open to moderation like anyone else. I think everyone here (myself included) over-simplifies the opposing viewpoint when discussing. There are valid points to be made along numerous lines. I doubt there is anyone here 100% negative or anywhere near 100% positive. I guess my vantage point is, what's the point of running a Redskins fan website if all we are going to do is roll around in misery and anger and hopelessness? That doesn't mean I don't understand misery, anger, and hopelessness. How could one call himself a Redskins fan and not feel those things? But I guess I still have hope and don't understand the vitriole with which even a shred of expressed hope receives here lately.

That being said, sorry guys and gals - I will try and do a better job of modeling site expectations going forward.

John, this is why I like this place. You're a genuine man and a good dude. For what it's worth I apologize for any wrongdoings I have made towards you here as well.

Thanks Mike. I probably deserve anything sent my way over the past few days. I appreciate some good friends who let me know I needed to dial it back. And tr1 - particular apologies to you for a couple over the line replies.

Don't sweat it my brother, we're all grumpy for different reasons. You hit the nail on the head when you said we all tend to simplify the opposition's viewpoint when we argue issues like this. The problem is emotional investment and not actually being inside that locker room. A lot of guesswork and a lot of fanplay makes these issues pretty tough to stay 100% objective about.

FWIW on the negative tone of the site...I hear ya brother but take it from me and a site I had to shut down that if ya fight it and make it a focal point by focusing on that itself it can drag us down. I think we ALL could do with a little more mutual respect as fans and friends on this site. I know I've gotten out of line a few times myself and needed to be reigned in...it happens to just about everyone who is actively involved and agreeing all the time would be boring. :) But it's going to stay cranky until the team shows some consistent improvement. It's just where the intelligent/informed fans are now. We all to varying degrees are in show me mode after the last 2 decades.
