It is laughable to see all the Baker trucks Bobby Wagner videos that are already out there. That is the unfortunate dumb part of the sporting world we live in. Finding a video of the incredible quickness that he displayed on the fumble recovery is predictably more difficult. Only a few. It was lightning quick. Legs, arms hands. And he’s in his mid thirties. You think Baker would trade trucking Bobby Wagner for recovering that fumble? Every time.

Wagner set the tone for the defense early in this game. He blew through Bucky Irving’s block and was playing like a 25 year old. Then a little later they did a cheap shot high low on him that can end someone’s season.

He’s super cool. Head in the right place. Never gets a personal foul. Sent the best wishes to the people in LA.

He ralied the team over a month ago and they haven’t lost since.


I hated Seattle so it was tough for me to appreciate how good he was when he played for them.

How he and Jayden hit it off early, is a crucial part of the leadership and culture building of this team.

He has to be considered one of the best to ever play the game.

In the end result Wagner forced the fumble that helped win the game.

All of this reminds me a bit of Kevin Greene walking off the field after the Super Bowl loss to Dallas saying he had won his matchup with Erik Williams and Deion Sanders told him to look at the scoreboard :D:D:D:D
 
During an interview yesterday, Wagner indicated he wanted to stay here for a few more years. So, if we're willing it looks like he's in.

Thanks for passing on. I was hoping he wanted to play for a few more years it would be great.
 
The Bobby Wagner signing is one of the moves this year that shows that Peters is playing chess, while the Front Offices we've had before were struggling with checkers.

While Rivera talked a lot about the changing/setting of a culture, it does seem in hindsight like he expected to set the tone at the top himself and it would filter down. And to a degree that was right, and it did.
But Peters knew that to REALLY instill a culture required not only a Head Coach to set the tone, but to bring in players to set that tone too. Bringing in Wagner was probably one of the keystone moments of setting up this season for being the success it is. Even with Jayden's transcendent skill set, I'm not sure we have 13 wins on the season (and counting) without these early moves.

It slaps you in the face with the obviousness of how much better we are organisationally. Peters and Quinn are on the same page, and have fostered a number of players to be their avatars on the team.

We'd be crazy not to extend Wagner for a couple more years. We need to make sure Terry sticks around too. While the culture change here is real, it's likely still fragile. We need to cement this foundation in stone so that it becomes the norm for years to come. Make it solid enough to weather the loss of Wagner when he eventually retires. It needs to be an institutional thing, that any player that comes here over the next few years KNOWS that this is who we are as an identity.
 
It’s funny being on the other side of the Lewis vs Fletcher debate. Bucs fans see David, another legend I love, as underappreciated relative to Wagner

Side note: The 2012 draft is known for QBs but it may be the greatest draft for off ball LBs in modern football. Draftees include Luke Kuechly, Bobby Wagner, Lavonte David and Demario Davis. Other guys include Donta Hightower, Zach Brown and Danny Trevathan
