The Front Office: Adam Peters and Roster Construction

They failed to sign him. I think failure contributes to 'neglect'. I guess I understand the argument 'they tried', but they have failed to upgrade our WR corps and in fact, it's worse now than it was in 2026 without resigning Deebo.

You know I have been harping on the WR thing for awhile Primus Porcus - so I'm a little bitter. We've wasted some serious draft capital in recent years drafting guys who didn't produce. And we passed on some good WRs in the process. I think we are making it very very hard on Jayden Daniels.

I've always agreed that we need to address it... I've also agreed that it wasn't good that we gave up assets and it was for a 1 year rental.. That all being said, they've made wholesale changes to the unit. The only player WR still in that room from when Peters took over is McLaurin (and technically Dyami Brown). The problem is that there isn't anybody you're confident in long term, and that's a much more difficult proposition. I'm not saying i'm confident in what we have, just looking at what is walking the street and the options aren't exactly plentiful. Top WRs don't generally walk the street, and when they do, they get overpaid. The alternative is to draft them EARLY, and I can understand opting for Jayden Daniels in year 1, and a starting RT in year 2. There can be conversations about Conerly, and if you would prefer to have drafted a WR there, but it's not as easy as just signing a long term, no. 2 talent WR to a multi-year deal.

Does it need to be addressed? Yes.
Have they sat on their hands in an attempt to address it? No

No, I just reject the words you chose. I'm not satisfied or accepting at all. I just think the word "nothing" is mathematically incorrect.
Ya, you’re free to that. When the sum of the parts is a net negative at the top of the depth chart, mathematically, it’s less than nothing.

Feel free to judge it how you will. Won’t change my point of view.

Is it harsh? Yup.

I’m frustrated.

I’ll give it time, though. As there is still time.

Won’t be long until a greater number of receivers are in the $40m+ AAV contract range and the Pierce deal will be top 20-25 money.

At least we have a boatload of cap space left……

I get that, but I'm not in the camp of re-setting the market for players that aren't re-setting the position. Pierce is not Justin Jefferson / Jamar Chase / Ceedee Lamb / Aman Ra-St Brown / Jackson Smith-Njigba. I personally don't even see Pierce as a top 20 - 25, so when it levels out, I think he'll still be over-paid. I'm not a fan of paying WR2s, WR1 money. That's how you find yourself with a contract you're more interested in getting out of, than you are extending or re-signing.

Pierce may prove me wrong, but his biggest selling point right now is the deep ball. Very few players have been able to make a career out of that, so it's a big gamble to pay a guy with a limited set of clubs in the bag, like he's the total package.

Should we have gone Cerrato-level overspending?
That’s a point I’ve considered raising before now.

The answer is yes, this offseason with the amount of cap space, talent required, and short favourable contract left with Jayden, then yes we should have.

Vinny was a clown, you can’t argue we’d have had the top receiver flying in on Redskins 1 at the start of FA though.

Fanbase will be in meltdown when we can’t get Jayden to the table to talk numbers soon.

I mean I’m trying to figure out what we’re saving all of the cap space for.

I guess where I fall is, I’ve never sat around in an offseason praying to God that my team will have the most responsible Front Office. Sure, our WR corps sucks and we’re going to get our franchise QB killed as a result, but this Front Office spends so appropriately it fills me with pride!

Agreed to date, other than Edge and WR last year...Since this year is not completed yet

We were in on Pierce and Doubs. The question I ask is what move is out there that you would have preferred we made?

We tried and failed and since then we have been sitting around smelling our own farts.

It can change. But this is such a dire situation I wouldn’t have let it linger.

You’re higher than Peters than I am, so it makes sense you’re satisfied and I’m not.

I am happy with a lot of what we’ve done on defense. So there’s that.
I didn't say I was satisfied. They have to address receiver--that's the biggest hole on the roster--I think everyone with eyes sees that. But no one is signing anyone right now--there have been extensions, but who was the last FA to sign? After the draft, Jennings and Deebo will still be there, as will Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, among others. If they don't draft a wideout, which would be Ron Rivera level incompetent, then they will have to go overboard on the remaining FAs. But now is not a time to panic and start signing people.

One thing I do think we have that was sorely lacking is an Easy Button--when Ekler went down, there was no one to replace him. We now have two options in Ford and White.

Same, makes no sense.

There is also the risk that we subsequently overspend through desperation post draft. Let’s see what money we potentially throw at Aiyuk for example.

Must admit I’m also frustrated with the FO at present. Not sure the draft is going to cure that, hopefully we nail the next week or so.

We have talked about this before. When your franchise is not as attractive a destination as you would like, you are going to have to overpay (perhaps even wildly overpay) to get difference-making players in free agency. There were WRs available who were major upgrades to what we have and we failed to get any of them.

We have not done what it takes to upgrade at WR. Doesn’t make Adam Peters a bad GM - but he has not done what he said he was going to do so far this offseason. We’ll see what he does this week.

If we give Aiyuk a 1 year $10m prove it deal, then that money could have been thrown at either one of those receivers as additional signing bonus in free agency.

I’d love to know if we inquired about Pittman, Shaheed, BTJ.

I’d love to know why Deebo was allowed to walk.

I’d love to know if we looked into AJ Brown

I’d love to know what we’re saving cap dollars for and why we didn’t up the offer to Doubs.

I’d love to know if we put a lot of stock into Aiyuk and determined some of our path.

I’d love to know the reasons some of these guys said no.

I think people think I am basing my thoughts on this on just one thing, but I am still not happy with the coaching changes and where I believe that put us as a free agent destination. I am still not happy with the 2025 off-season and our lack of moves. This all ties in to how I feel.

It’s fine if people don’t agree, or want to just judge based on this single offseason. That’s not how I look at things.

He's still under contract with San Fran. Hasn't been released.

That’s why I said if

And if we do then AP will have clearly sat on that Aiyuk deal and let it influence our earlier FA approach at receiver.

Time will tell once the draft passes and we make further moves.

Does make you wonder how long “well, they tried” flies with people. As if they aren’t fanning the flames of those media narratives so fans KNOW they tried, to offset the fact that they failed. Happened a few times last offseason too, it’s really important to them to be mentioned as the 2nd place destination that juuust couldn’t get it over the line. You can tell bc it’s a consistent drumbeat about our negotiations, regarding a FO that doesn’t really leak anything.

You can’t control where players want to go. But 0% of it is about failing to convince guys this is where they want to be? 0% of it is about the whiff of our overall inexperienced coaching staff being on the hot seat and not seeming like a stable destination? 0% of it is about doing Daniels so dirty last year that he’s seen as a question mark and not enough of a draw to come and catch passes from? It’s 100% that guys like Pierce, Doubs, Nailor, etc. just LOVE Indy, NE, LV? No questions about this operation and their ability to bring in talent? Just welp, we tried, it’s the effort that counts! And for how many years do we accept that as the roster flounders?
This is moving goalposts. No one is satisfied. No one is happy with the condition of the room. Like you said, we cannot force any one to sign, all we can do is make the best effort possible--I think they did that. There was an entirely different approach this year than to last, anyone who says otherwise is selling you something.

The point I made was us being passive. We were NOT passive--we were not successful. There is a massive difference. Pointing out our effort when someone states something factually incorrect and being satisfied with what we have are mutually exclusive.

Me too, but I also don't know that we didnt, which is why I'm just not in a place to say we didn't try.

Deebo may have decided against an extension (yes I agree this isn't good, to have traded for him and not had this worked out)

the rest of it, we likely wont know... which sucks, but is also how we've wanted them to do business for a long damn time. Nobody knew we were in on Tunsil til the move happened.

We did. We made him an outstanding offer. He choose to stay home.
