The Doom and Gloom begins

Cousins has played second and third string teams.....just a little difference there.

he beat Cleveland...woo hoo. he was an interception machine last year.

Cousins has had 8-9 starts in his career and to you he is an 'interception machine'. Don't you think a young player can grow and improve with more opportunities.

Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning had buckets of INTs at the beginning of their careers as well.

Meanwhile, on the other side you have Griffin who has started 3 times the number of NFL games that Cousins has and you want to preach patience.

So, we can write off one guy as 'not the answer' but hold a candle for another who has received far more coaching and attention from the organization and has done less with it.

Sounds like a good plan.

At least if you want to avoid having to address the media and admit your former high pick is a bust.

And at some gut level don't you feel that has something to do with all the BS we are seeing re the qb position?
 
It's hard to argue BT's point of view. I wanted to believe that Griff could turn it around this season, but the doubts are stronger than ever. Tend to agree with Joey T that tomorrow's game is the most important of 10's career thus far. Also have the feeling that Cousins is the starter week one.

Oh, BT.

I can say "hes had 8 or 9 starts in his career and you consider him to be NFL caliber. Dont you think a young player should grow and improve before giving him that moniker?"

Ryan Leaf had a cannon for an arm and was the #1 rated QB his rookie season in preseason. Those stats are as useless as lips on a chicken.

I don't see how you want to label Cousins as some special NFL ready QB when he hasn't even had a season of starts under his belt going in to his 4th year and when he was given the chance last year choked.

I feel at some "gut level" you are looking for ANY reason to get rid of Griffin. Even if it means making up that Cousins is "NFL ready" when he hasn't done a thing to prove he is. This is Griffin's last chance and we all know it. But some of you have already thrown out the baby with the bathwater. Don't expect all of us to be that way or buy in to phantom stats or "sources".
 
What I am saying is we beat our collective heads against the wall for two and a half years with Griffin.

It may be time to see if someone else can do better.

From what we saw from Griffin so far what exactly would be the risk?

2 for 5 for 8 yards against the Lions.

Zero tds in the first two preseason games.

Sounds a lot like what we saw against Tampa last year.

And what we saw from Griffin last preseason I might add.
 
Oh, my bad then. I thought you were saying that Cousins was a great QB, NFL material, comparable to NFL greats, and we were wasting our time with Griffin.

Brady just went 2 for 5 for 13 yards against the Packers and has 0 TDs as well.

These stats mean zero.
 
With each passing day, I think the more and more that the organization has ruined Griffin, to the point that it is becoming irreparable.

But for the life of me, I don't get the Cousins love. I thought he looked good, until he didn't. And when he didn't, he looked bad. Really bad. And I thought his confidence was shot, to boot.
 
Those stats mean zero if you have a proven, decade long track record of success. When you've struggled for two straight years and currently look shaky - I think they mean something.

Personally I'm about done with the Griffin experiment. At some point, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. My wishing it were a swan is irrelevant :)

Well...we are all entitled to our opinions. But none of them mean anything but that. Especially not in preseason :)

I don't love Cousins but he has, at times, looked a lot like a young Tom Brady. He hasn't had the practice reps and prep as a starter that Griffin has. He's had a fraction of the starting experience. It's not impossible to reduce interception rates - some of that comes with more experience. I don't know how you fix Griffin.

You're just in love with his eyes, gimme a break.

Cousins' reaction after imploding last year did not paint a promising picture. Hopefully if called upon he can bounce back, but early indications were not positive.

I really think our future QB is not on our roster right now.
 
You may think that and you may be right - but you are talking about a guy whose had less real game experience than most rookies get their first year. You don't write talent off after 8 games. Most of this board wanted to cut Morgan Moses at that point - and he may prove to be a 10 year starter. Just sayin.... And yeah, he does have dreamy eyes!

“He hasn’t thrown many [interceptions] this camp,” said Gruden. “He’s improved on the turnover issue very much so through OTAs and training camp and preseason games. We’re impressed with the progress that Kirk has made very much. He’s done a great job.”

Most observing practice would concur with Gruden’s assessment, although it should be noted that he was working mostly against second- and third-team defenders and playing with backup players on offense. Of course, he was in the same situation last year and threw many more interceptions.

Cousins has yet to throw an interception in 26 preseason attempts this year. But let’s add the preseason warning to the sample size warning ...

I honestly wonder on a regular basis how often journalists lurk this board. I can't tell yo how many time's we've all been engaged in a topic that I haven't heard about anywhere else, and the next day a question at a presser, or an article pops up about the same dialogue. It absolutely could be coincidence, just very strange sometimes.

What I find amusing are the fans and media outlets that proclaim "the book has been written" on Cousins after just nine starts,scattered over three seasons.

I'm 45 and started watching Redskins football when I was 10 and over those 35 years of watching the Skins and around the league, I know one thing: Nine starts is too small a sample size to write any player off.

Cousins has flashed in games and in others, he's looked horrible. That sounds like a typical rookie Qb to me.

You know who else had confidence problems and threw picks when he first set foot on the field?

Mark Rypien. A flat out turnover machine and a player who Charles Mann once said : " We could look into his eyes on Sunday and know whether or not we had a chance that day."

Gibbs even benched him early in his career because of the turnovers and confidence issues......but he had the patience to develop him.

By today's logic, Rypien never sees the field again...much like folks within the fan base wish on Cousins.

It would be a shame to give up on Cousins and watch him pull a Stan Humphries and lead somebody else to a playoff berth, where anything can happen.

I hope we at least give him a fair shot with the club's full backing if Bob fails to step up and take the job. Need to be sure of what we have in Kirk,just as much as we do Bob.

I just wish we could have a franchise Qb here, something I've never seen in my football lifetime.
 
I see no reason for Desean to play and honestly speaking our starting Running back should not play until the first game too.
