The only viable explanation is that there are enough waiver players that are equivalent in their mind to the guys getting traded for.... OR.... we're asleep at the wheel. This feels a little like the first day of free agency where we were all screaming "What are you doing?!?"

Giants IMO has quietly built a better O line than Washington, lol it took them forever with so many misses over the years. Years ago we wouldn't want the Giants sloppy seconds but now I'd consider it.

Has this arrived at Ron Rivera "everything we need is in this locker room" territory? They aren't starving for cap space and the mediocrity of the O-line play has been an issue even before the Tunsil injury (althought that obviously escalated the situation) yet there doesn't seem to be much interest in grabbing some of the cuts that were at least in very competitive camp battles elsewhere.....

What was it, after the first week of free agency or the first week after the draft that Peters said they'd need a week to regroup? Maybe he needs a week to regroup after firing his players, and get back to free agency after that.

This regime definitiely has a streak of the in house Ron in them as I've pointed out. If so, i think it might take one more bad season to learn the lesson about it -- but hopefully not. I've gone from being uber optimsitic about the season to feeling anything can happen -- great, good, mediocre, bad. I don't think I have a good feel for it anymore -- among other things I don't like how the good vibes of early camp devolved to bad vibes -- and several beat guys have referenced that, not just the preseason games but also in camp.

I am hoping that all of it wakens them up. Better to happen now then the start of the season albiet last year the bad vibes spilled into the season.

Having said that I'd still be shocked if they don't make moves with the waiver wire today and hopefully they are good ones.

Among other things the look on Peters and Harris face walking off the Ravens game were very grim. Peters is usually beaming like he's on top of the world. But not that day. In a way it was somewhat embarassing to him to see how bad their depth is compared to the Ravens. To that point, I am hoping it fuels his competitive drive and I hear he has a lot of it to make some moves today.

We had options on halfway decent centers for a 7th.
Now we are looking at Lucas Patrick or maybe Glasgow to save that pick.

Keim-speak was a little difficult for me to decipher on his podcast today.

He did spend some time on Glasgow, but without ever indicating whether he knows they’re actually interested. Keim often doesn’t spend that much time discussing a player for no reason, so maybe there’s something there. But he didn’t even give one of his subtle hints about whether there’s actual interest.

His basic points on Glasgow were:

A. Would he be willing to play for the veteran minimum?
B. He’d have to get up to speed with the offense.
C. Would he be willing to come back to play if he’s initially viewed as a backup?
D. Keim then floated the idea that Glasgow himself might believe he could eventually overtake Allegretti for the starting job, especially given Allegretti’s injury situation.

Keim didn’t seem to zero in on anyone on the waiver wire, either. I might have to listen again because I was doing something else at the same time and only half paying attention. He did say they believe in Allegretti, they like Gulbin, and he thinks Good-Jones ends up on the practice squad.

My overall vibe was that Keim thinks they probably make a move, but he doesn’t necessarily know who it will be.

The thing with Allegretti for me is that there are a lot of assumptions being stacked on top of each other. He wasn't good at guard last year. When they had problems at RG, he was part of the problem, and PFF gave him an abysmal grade in the low 40s.

So, could a veteran player move to center and emerge as a better player there? Sure. Maybe it happens. But I don't see why we should treat that as a slam dunk.

Then you add that he missed most of camp. And now you have the lingering calf injury. I'm obviously not a doctor, but from what I've read, calf injuries can be tricky and sometimes linger or contribute to other issues.

None of that means Allegretti can't end up being perfectly fine at center. He might. But when you combine the position change + his play last year + missing camp + the calf injury, that's a lot of uncertainty at a pretty important position.

Keim talking about Jarrett Patterson who the 49ers traded for saying he would have been a scheme fit here, outside zone. But maybe this team wasn't willing to move a late round pick for him or were sold on him.

From the outside, there's this weird stubbornness when it comes to safety. It's like they have to be right and no matter what the evidence is they just don't want to admit fault. If so, that's a really bad sign.

I agree with this post in the direct statement but also the implication. It implies heavy involvement by DQ on personnel which I do think is happening, and I think it is to the team’s detriment.

If anything ends up finishing AP’s tenure here (if and when, not saying it is this year), it would probably be that (combined with it being DQ he collaborates with). That is my read. This seems to be fundamental in his philosophy.

Sadly, I think they tried in many ways. If major injuries didn’t hit, we may be looking at it differently.

If you mean, after the injuries hit they seem like they are not trying…
Yes I am a but confused on what we are watching unfold.

Maybe it is some big picture trust-the-process style analysis. Like, all changes available don’t move the needle enough to build a contender, and harm long term contention possibilities.
