The 2026 Free Agency Thread

The guarantee of that bonus was voided. And the team did not have to pay and chose not to. He was at the facilities by then (there's footage of him warming up in the last preseason game I think), but the bonus still did not have to be paid.

I don't have complete knowledge of the situation, but nothing I've read would lead me to think this is true. The fact that the Players Association did not file a grievance would seem to say that it didn't happen. Such an action would be a blatant violation of his contract, so they'd have no choice but to fight the precedent that this would establish.

So Brown to the Patriots isn't happening? I thought they were just waiting for the Russini thing to blow over some before pulling the trigger on it.

I dont think its dead there are just new rumors floating around.

And I dont think it has anything to do with vrabel and russini I believe its because the trade cant happen until June 1st because of the salary cap ramifications.

Oh yes, good point. I forgot about tee June first hamstring, thanks

Somehow, we need to convince the Jags that swapping receivers is stupid and what they really want is a big nasty defensive tackle on an expiring contract for their malcontent wide receiver.

I truly hope we do not sign Aiyuk, it has train wreck levels of distraction written all over it. That's not counting 2 years not playing coming off injury.
Same. It really feels like a disaster in the making. So many red flags. Feels way too similar to Lattimore for me where it’s been a couple years since he was any good, and there have been injuries.

Just sign Diggs please. I know it’s a temporary solution and may leave us completely starting over at receiver next year, but honestly, it’s a longshot that Aiyuk is going to have some kind of multi year resurrection for us anyway. At least with Diggs we know he will contribute this year.

So sign Diggs now and let Aiyuk “prove it” elsewhere. If he does, we should have a leg up on signing him next year to a fair deal considering he wants to come here. Let’s just get the obvious upgrade in here now instead of throwing darts at a boom or bust guy hoping to land a bargain that we don’t even need considering all the unused cap space.

I’d be fine signing Diggs for one year and Aiyuk around Sept 1st on a 2 year deal. Gives him this year to get acquainted. Could probably start the season on the PUP.

Keep six receivers:

Terry
Diggs
Aiyuk
Williams

Let the other guys battle for spots 5/6.

Spot 7 would be on the roster for at least part of the season if Aiyuk is PUP.

But, we don’t spend money like that. So, if it’s one or the other give me Diggs

Yes, both would be great (although I agree, they won’t pony up the money for that). And I think that given the special teams contributions they can find a way to keep seven, so that Lane, Burks, Luke can stay. Brown and Jefferson are expendable, guys like that are a dime a dozen.

I’m also fine with just signing one of them and letting the young guys get some reps. And Diggs is that guy… More reliable right now, and a better mentor for the young guys.

What I’m not OK with is not bringing in anybody. I’m pretty sure we are all in agreement on that point.

Aiyuk on a 2 year deal for certain, or at least a second optional year for the team. A one year deal doesn't really seem worth especially if he isn't signed until real late. Too many variables and flags with him but also the potential is robust

I doubt in any way aiyuk signs a 2 year deal unless he’s really just allergic to money. That’s just wishful thinking. It’s always a 1 year deal for these prove it types.

Right. So I wouldn’t sign him.

A two year deal would be for both sides.

If Aiyuk busts we're screwed. If Aiyuk shines he's screwed. One-year prove-it contract is really the fairest for all sides.

If you set aside the Jayden relationship, would you really be good with signing him to a one year deal just before the beginning of the season? There are so many red flags regardless of relatiionshi.

If he signs for 1 year and we are the ones rehabbing and reinventing him to 2024 form, we should be the ones rewarded by a reasonable 2nd year option. We can't give him a roster spot and have him leave our cupboard bare next off season. It would be all risk with little reward. Otherwise we'd be better off signing a safer product in Diggs.

Totally disagree. Almost so far in disagreement we are on different planets.

If he signs here close to September this year is a waste. He hasn’t played in two years, doesn’t know our system and we have players that do currently on the roster.

The 2-year contract essentially functions the same as the 1-year. He hasn’t played so a year to get ready and get back in the groove and year 2 is his prove it. It also gives us another receiver under contract react for next season in the case we need to part with Terry. And given the way this FO hands out money, I’d say that may be a foregone conclusion.

Will HE sign it? No. He’ll want one. But that could be a big mistake if he signs, doesn’t get the targets/receptions he wants and hits the FA market. His value would be tanked.

If the head coach and GM agree with you, that it will be a waste this year to sign him, then why sign him at all? We don't have a deep enough corp that we can stash a receiver who will be useless to us this year. We need a receiver this year not someone we can bank for 2027.

If the coaches think he's worth a prove-it gamble this year then throw the dice. If they want him for the future, we need his roster spot for someone who can do something now.

For what it's worth, I never worry being on different planets. My starship is warp capable, has a hyperspace engine, and as everyone knows from my posting history can entertain ludicrous speeds even if I rarely go plaid.
