It’s really possible he wants more than Terry is making and you can’t do that 1) because he’s not worth it and 2) because you’ll create a Terry problem.

I don’t think they want him. If they really wanted him they would have gone after him by now.

The fact he’s still out there indicates he isn’t as good as he thinks he is and the league has passed judgement that he’s probably not as good as fans think also.

No, he’s not asking for Terry money. All indications are somewhere between 20 and 25 million, and at this point the number will more likely be 20 or less.

Regardless of whether he’s as good as he thinks he is or not, he is the best available at the moment, would you not agree?

I didn’t realize we signed Akhelo Witherspoon. I’m not saying he’s a savior. Didn’t play much last year. But this guy finds the ball. For this team he’s quality depth. That’s a pretty big signing, imo.

Again, he isn’t the answer. He’s older. 31.

But he can play.

Our corner depth, with him, isn’t as awful as I thought. Still needs help. Probably a starter, really.

The Witherspoon signing was the catalyst for me prioritizing FS or the CB/S combo player more than just CB like many had as the top or number two priority.

I still feel this area requires attention similar to WR.

Regarding WR, selecting Williams does make me feel a little more at ease but not comfortable. AP needs to make some magic and make a move. I am not comfortable with putting all our eggs in the Aiyuk basket.

Yeah, I don’t think any of us are comfortable with putting all our eggs in the Aiyuk basket. But the team has way more information than we do about what’s going on with him. Perplexing to me that the team is showing no interest in Jennings, but it tells me that Aiyuk is indeed the plan most likely. I think they know he won’t be fully up to speed to start the season, but are comfortable with the depth behind him to bridge the gap.

I would feel way better about Jennings personally, but again the team knows a lot more about both of these players than we do.

That’s a bummer. I had looked him up real quick and saw that he was only 26 and was about to say count me in. But a torn Achilles? That’s definitely a big problem.

I have said the same thing. However, they can DO anything they want to. Nothing prohibiting them from signing him for more than he's probably worth (all good players in free agency are signed for more than they are worth btw) and then redoing McLaurin's deal so his nose isn't out of joint. I don't know that he's as good as he thinks he is, but he'd immediately be the 2nd best WR on our roster.

Why do people keep acting like san fran is going to hold on to Brandon Aiyuk till sept 1st to avoid paying him? I will be shocked if they hold on to him past August 25th when they have to cut their roster to their final roster size fir the season. You mean you think they will cut somebody they want on the team to keep him for a couple more days? I suspect it is just lazy to think the roster bonus money is the only reason he will be cut.

The other factor is, teams don't want these kinds of distractions. San Fran is holding out for now a) because it doesn't hurt them to hold out, and b) in the unlikely event someone gets antsy and gives up a 6th or 7th round pick for him. When no one does that, they will release him so half the questions they get at press conferences aren't Brandon Aiyuk-related.

I don't think Aiyuk forgot how to play wide receiver during his injury recovery. I think that is a silly idea. Whether he will be the same player post-injury is a valid one, but there's no reason to believe he can't be. I think he wants to play with his bestie, and that might make a huge difference in his attitude and mental state vs. what's gone on in San Francisco.

I don’t know where you guys are getting that Jennings is asking for that kind of money? I don’t see that anywhere, but either way, I’m not so worried about keeping Terry happy anymore. That went out the window when he did what he did. Terry is a professional and I trust he will play his best, especially considering that it’s essentially a contract year for him.

I like KA as a fallback plan. But much rather have somebody younger like Jennings. Willing to go whatever the market will bear, and even if we have to go a few bucks more than that I’m fine. Rather overspend a little for Jennings if necessary than just not use the money like we’ve done the last two years. I just don’t feel like we have the luxury of continuing to roll over significant cap space when we have so many holes. If Keenan gets hurt or is just too old to be productive, everyone will be complaining “why didn’t we spend some of that available cap room for a better receiver?! AP went old and cheap again he never learns!!!”

The reason I'm leaning KA over JJ is that I have a feeling at this time both are one-year guys. I think if Peters/Quinn liked JJ enough for a multi-year deal then he'd be signed already. For one year, I think KA may just give us more. Regardless, whether it's JJ, KA, DS, or other.... I hope we land at least one more established vet receiver.

Keenan Allen made sense pre Antonio Williams. Not so much anymore if the expectation is that Williams is our likely week 1 starter at slot

Jerry Juedy and then they used a 1st round pick on Concepcion and a 2nd round pick on Denzel Boston. They have really invested in the position this draft. And they have Fanin at TE.

Fair. Bateman is a 2021 first round pick who still has not shown the production they’d like but they also have Mark Andrew’s at TE.

Yeah. But we are part of that group and after Terry we really don’t have anyone who you could really say we can depend on for 50ish and 500. Chig at TE should be good for that and maybe a bit more and we are going to have to get catches from the backs and hope Williams can be productive out of the gate.

Andrews is 31, had worse production than Konk last year at TE, in a better offense.

How many passes are Jeudy and Concepcion going to drop next year? Jeudy had an almost 10% drop rate, and has dropped a whopping 23 passes the last 2 years. Concepcion also has serious questions about his hands. Boston had separation issues in college, didn't he? No one in the Cleveland room is better than Terry, and I'll take Williams route running and hands over Concepcion. Fanin is good.

There are a lot of teams who aren't going to give you 50-ish and 500 that are considered "better" than our options. I am not saying we're a top-10 unit, probably not top-20, but there are teams in worse condition than we are.
