The tough thing was the best available wasn't all that great. So how hard do you really want to swing?

At the same time, our wide receiver room is so poor a pretty hard swing is required even for above average.

I agree that he needs more adequate weapons, and I don't doubt that they swung hard this season. But they swung hard too late. They got lucky year one, which is fine. As you said, Ron left the cupboard bare. But year 2, they doubled down on luck. Hoping that Noah Brown's 1 year of good health was the norm and that the rest of his career was a fluke. Hoping that McCaffrey would take a huge step up. Hoping that Ertz wouldn't run out of gas. Hoping that the roster wouldn't get injured enough to need even mediocre depth. (I will never forgive them for depending on Chris Moore and Robbie Chosen.) After two years of hope as sustenance, the team is going into this season banking on hope and Chig. With a newborn OC.

At 3 years, this is no longer Ron's team. This is the team that Peters built. If they whiff in the draft and Aiyuk is washed up, Peters failed Jayden.

Maybe it’s blind faith, but I don’t think they are banking on hope, and Chig. They clearly see the need. Hard swings on the top guys in FA. They’ve brought in a ton of WR’s for top 30 visits. They are still going to make additions beyond Aiyuk. I think/hope.

Also, adding Chig and a bunch of pass catching RB’s is going to have a lot of impact I think. Especially in making Jayden’s life easier. Having guys that you can throw a short dump off and they generate YAC is going to be something we haven’t seen in a while.

Also, of note, Keim specifically mentioned Jennings as a post draft option if we draft defense at #7. Keim doesn’t usually name drop without having heard something.

I wonder if Daron Pay e and next year’s first would get it done, if this issue lingers until after the draft.

I also wonder whether giving up next year’s 1st for a 28yo defensive tackle would even make any sense for a team trying to get younger.

Definitely not a first. Remember, Lawrence wants out and things have gotten so nasty that the Giants are willing to explore other options. No need to offer them a super premium.

If you watch Dyami's 72 hours in LA youtube, Terry looks like the shiftiest receiver in the league compared to Dyami. Terry is very sudden and intentional and would argue he is pretty shifty. If he stays healthy he may have his best year at 31 with a giant chip on his shoulder from last year.

The Giants are not going to trade Dexter Lawrence to Washington. Period.

The last thing they want to see is Lawrence perhaps going on to have all-pros seasons in Washington and having their fanbase and media lambast them as we beat them twice a year.

If Lawrence is going somewhere he's going to the Raiders, 49ers, Dolphins, or another team way outside of the northeast NFC corridor.

Don't look for the Giants to trade him to Dallas either.

It's true that this season there weren't many good prospects. But this is their third offseason together. It's the ninth inning for this staff and it needs to hit a homerun in what may be their last offseason together if they fail. It's not their fault that there wasn't a run in the 8th inning, but it is their fault that they waited until the last 2 innings to try to hit a homerun at all. They were bunting the rest of the game, which miraculously gave them a lead in the first 3 innings and was disastrous for the next 3.

I'll come back to the crux of the problem at WR: The WR they drafted to at least be a part time starter in McCaffery in 2024 hasn't shown that yet. They have a WR they drafted in 2025 which looks promising.

They haven't thrown first round picks at this, but they've thrown 2 mid-round picks at the problem, and that's not nothing. They did extend Terry. They did trade for Deebo. So it's not like they were just taking hacks at bad pitches and striking out. They have taken some calculated swings.

The biggest swing and a miss was re-signing Noah Brown. That killed them last year. They were counting on Noah Brown to be the outside guy with Deebo as the move/slot/gadget guy. Then Noah (predictably) got hurt. Then Terry got hurt, and all of a sudden, Deebo was asked to be WR1, McCaffery was asked to be WR2 (and for one game, I think WR1?), and they were bringing up practice squad players.

I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, they should never have trusted Noah Brown, especially coming off of an injury shortened season due to internal injuries. They needed to swing for a WR 2 + trading for Deebo last year, and draft a guy. They did 2 of the three things they needed to.
By not doing the third, they ended up in a miserable position.

Would you prefer they drafted a WR last year or the year before instead of drafting Daniels and Conerly?
