The 2026 Free Agency Thread

What would you guys think about signing David Njoku? I know we already signed Chig, and Njoku is also more of a receiving option (albeit a better in-line option than Chig), but having another TE receiving threat would open up some offensive flexibility. I have no idea what he's looking for as far as $$$, which is probably the biggest reason he isn't signed..... so there is that....

If we can't get/find the receivers we need it might be smart. Instead of being in three or four wide receiver sets like most of the NFL, we could really do an aggressive passing offense out of two and three TE sets. And unlike most two tight end sets it wouldn't be one blocking TE and one receiving TE, but a scenario where every TE is a threat.

I don't know if standard nickel would negate it (passingwise) but if it did then you beat up defenses sizewise in the running game.
 
We're definitely going to have to SOGOTP with a WR2, Between JJ and/or BA last year should have told us that waiting for a deal to come to us sometimes doesn't

Logan did a breakdown of him before FA. His breakdown is that Njoku is an athlete who never refined the technical points of his game and now the athleticism is starting to go.

I can see the argument for him on a cheap one year deal but Chig is somewhat similar as an athletic YAC guy who is not known for being ultra technical.

This is unpopular but I’d rather bring Ertz back midseason as the dependable chain mover and red zone guy.

EDIT: Also worth noting Ertz has some familiarity with the Ben Johnson offense. He spent a bit of time with the Lions in 2023

I hate signing bad character guys, but it keeps crossing my mind that Stefan Diggs had over 1,000 yards last year and could be had for peanuts.

I get where you are at, he is the only real WR1/2.

It would represent a test of AP and DQ's supposed core values

He's also got some unresolved legal issues.
I'd wait until those are resolved at minimum, we dont want another brandon McManus situation

Power running with the best blocking TE in the NFL in Bates, combined with the best breakout prospect TE in Chig. I'm with it

I don't see it. Bates is the best blocking TE in the league so you want him on the field. We still have Sinnot who we have to find a way to get involved and DQ said that he's really high on Cager, for some reason

As scared as we are of McLaurin's age, I think Digg's age and wear and tear is worse.

Not sure why? 6.5 and former WR. He seems to have bounced around the league in his first five or so years and stayed on our practice squad last year. Does anybody have any insight into this? Does he run great routes and have soft hands? Can he block? He does not seem to have a lot of speed? I can't find a whole lot about him but he doesn't seem to have any amazing attributes

Cynically, he's just probably speaking well of someone on the roster.
 
Do we know anything else about Cager? I mean all I see is he'll be 29, bounced around and only has 19 NFL receptions for 189 yards with 2TDs, 6'5" 220. Very meh

It’s on brand for people to get excited about a 29 year old journeyman.
 
Plus we have Yankoff. Another meh TE, they say he's good on special teams
