In theory this is great, and I was one of the groaners. This roster is way too weak and too old to be using first round draft picks on positions we've already filled with legitimate starters. It would have made more sense to use the pick on any number of dynamic players at positions we were void of talent in or traded back to collect more picks. The draft was filled with good talent through the second. If worrying about the OL The Mullet, Ratledge(G) would have been a perfect fit.

If I were to take a wild guess, he ends up in that $12M AAV space. He is in his own tier in FA

I think the most popular pick on the board was Ezeiruaku. Not a lot of sacks but a good number of pressures with solid run defense.

I think we would all be pumped about him after his first year here and check the box on starting EDGEs with him and Armstrong

Eze was a top option but honestly there were quite a few. The picks between the mid 20's to mid 40's graded out so close and there were a lot of need positions in that group.

Yeah $10.4 to 12M is a lot but we know what we'd be getting, just what is needed and remove an early draft line item. There are few lesser quality RB's in FA but we have lacked higher quality at the position for some time now
 
I don’t want to throw water on the party because I’d like Hall, too. But just as a kind of “throw it out there so all the facts are out” - he hasn’t been all that productive in the run game.

Now… he has the ultimate excuse that absolutely no one that pays any attention can argue against… he plays for the Jets.

Career average 4.5 ypc (that’s good!), only has one season over 1k rushing yards (one at 994). But he also averages 57 receptions and 500 yards.

So with our line and Jayden I’d guess those numbers would be closer to 1,200 rushing and 700 receiving… so again… I think he’s worth it.

Just wanted to make sure facts are out there.

Also… I know this won’t be popular with many here but I don’t let us adding Breece Hall make me shy away from us drafting Love. But we would need to have the board shake out correctly for that move at that point.
 
Guys like Barkley and Derrick Henry are exceptions.

The attrition rate at the RB position mitigates against using major cap dollars to tie up in the position, again unless you legitimately are talking about a guy that is top 3 or 4 and has the capability to change games by himself in the open field or like Henry could run the ball 30 plus times and wear defenses out and still produce big plays in the fourth quarter.

BTW - has Darrell Taylor been claimed yet? Pass rusher with some upside who was recently released.
 
An FA who is going to get paid with ties to this group I haven’t seen mentioned is Nahshon Wright. Was a bust in Dallas and this staff had a couple chances to sign him on the cheap and declined both times

Career year this year especially with takeaways. 5 INTs and 2 FFs

If Breece Hall comes to WAS and puts up those numbers in his first year, KC will fire Big Red and hire Blough as HC.
 
Yeah, undrafted FA in 2023, spent time in Minny and LV rosters and various practice squads.

25 years old. 6’7 and 260.

Poor combine numbers evidently took him off expected draft boards.

Yes! These are the type of younger players entering their prime who we should’ve been signing last year too. Add these guys to the list as well….

I’ve pointed out Coby a few times. If I’m spending meaningful money on a safety, it better be a post safety, which Coby is. Former Thorpe award winner who played CB alongside Sauce at U of Cincy.

Converted to safety 2 years back, bet on himself despite Seattle offering him lowball extensions and will now get $12M+ AAV.

He certainly isn’t a star, isn’t a great athlete and isn’t a great tackler but he gets picks and won’t be an embarrassment like Quan Martin.

The other safety I’m looking at is Jalen Thompson of the Cardinals. Bit older and more of a proven commodity who has played all safety positions. He gets overshadowed by Budda but he is a very good player in his own right

Literally pull a Seahawks list of their impending FAs. They have like 6-8 guys in the age 25-26 range who will get paid this offseason. The GM there killed those drafts a few years back
 
Free agency in 2026 is especially important for Washington as a number of the core foundation pieces now appear as if they will not come from the 2024 draft class that Adam Peters assembled.

Team should have kept Montez Sweat and paid him and traded Daron Payne instead before signing him to a monster deal.
