The 2026 Free Agency Thread

I would not extend Luvu. He’s going to be 29 in the offseason and I think we need to move on from a guy that has some talent but has never really emerged as a consistent playmaker.

With Tunsil we are paying an established and consistent high level producer.

We know what we are getting with #78.
The question with Luvu is why was he so much worse this year than last? Was he asked to do things he couldn't do? Did OC's get tape on him and exploited a weakness?

He was so good in 2024 (well, as good as anyone on a Whitt defense could be) and pretty invisible/bad this year.

Yeah we can have Luvu play out his contract next year for sure

Luvu, Biadasz can both play on a contract year. Tunsil we need to resign early

Teams I think realized at a relatively light frame you could wear Luvu down and help neutralize him with size and a strategy to run the ball at him rather than allowing him to attack plays from the backside.

Assuming Joe Whitt is let go how would you guys feel about reuniting Quinn with Raheem Morris as DQ?

Not interested, personally. Ulbrich, yes please.
We are agreeing too much... 🤣

I have absolutely no idea how Morris got a head coaching position. He's never been a good coordinator.

I wonder if we could still get Al Harris without making him a coordinator though?

Morris I think is a really compelling, charismatic guy. He’s never been a good coordinator but he does have experience on both sides of the ball, for a long time, and under studly coaches. So I could see him convincing a billionaire who wants to believe he’s found a genius, that he indeed has. He’s apparently an incredible interviewee.

I think Al Harris is a candidate for DC but he should be low on the list. DQ is an idiot if he hires another guy without playcalling experience

Unless that guy is someone like Aden Durde

I think he's a lot like Quinn, he's charismatic, players love him and he's a phenomenal chemistry builder but just not a great gameday coach.

Ulbrich is 100% the guy we’d want and need. He might wind up being the Falcons HC, though. Or Kliff… and he keeps him. I’m not sure we get Ulbrich.

I want a coordinator that has managed a top 5 defense, preferably multiple years. I would prefer to take on a known commodity, over a could be maybe.
I'd throw a boatload of money at Schwartz from the Browns or someone like that.

Just a hunch but if the falcons were planning to hire ulbrich as the head coach I dont see why they'd rush to fire morris and fontenot so quickly.

I could definitely see them retaining him though if he doesn't get any interest as a head coach elsewhere.

Hopefully their new gm and head coach have a different philosophy, I'd like him as our defensive coordinator as well.

There's going to be some tough decisions this off-season. 36 year old Miller led the team in sacks, 35 year old Wagner led the team in tackles and 35 year old Ertz was second on the team in receptions while missing the last 4+ games.

I would bring back Wagner for sure. He’s the green dot guy and a tackling machine, one of the league’s leaders in that category every year including this one.

Miller is good in the situational pass rusher roll. 9 sacks at his age is impressive.

Ertz really depends on the injury, sad to say. He made a lot of plays for us, and I know his teammates loved him.

All three are great culture guys too.

We do need to get younger though, so I would be looking to add quality young prospects behind them.

You could be right. But they’d rush to let Morris and Fontenot go even if they were thinking of Ulbrich because:

1) GM/HC search can happen together. Or at least in unison

2) They had no plan at all to keep either of them and this lets them get a jump on the next steps.

3) To let Ulbrich know he’s in the running and not to go sign with someone yet - show him the job is open.
