The 2026 Free Agency Thread

I think I get Peters. He has two or three guys he has as the most highly rated and is willing to bid on them, but if he doesn't get them then he isn't going to go down his list and find another player that is perhaps 85% of what his original target is in terms of age/upside/production.

He is going to take his marbles and go home.
It's fluid, and it isn't like he is at a buffet table. The system is so much more complicated.

If he goes after player-X with agent-Y and X and Y make him feel like he's got a shot... but the negotiation isn't closing.. he has to decide. Meanwhile another player and agent are talking to a different team and that deal closes.

Now X and Y may be talking to a third team. You may not be as close as you thought.

The GM has to be able to handle the myriad situations. We can't judge until the music stops. Not a satisfying start but the music is still playing, we'll have to see.

First day take:

I am disappointed that we didn't make much noise. OTOH, I don't necessarily want the tier 1 guys as much as I want the ascending guys. The thing which gives me hope is that I didn't see a lot of movement among that FA DEs. Part of me wonders if that is because it is supposed to be a good edge draft and if that has suppressed the market so none of the DEs are getting the bumps we're seeing among other groups.

Still, I would have loved to see a wide receiver who was capable of being a 2 or a 1a, a DE, and maybe a bit more than a nickel corner. Happy to see Tunsil done. I wonder if that will help the perception among free agents. Maybe there was a rep that we didn't pay guys not even our own??? Still, it's day one and there are plenty of TEs, edges, and others left to bolster our units. Time to regroup and rally, Adam. Let's see the plan inked.

Ooh... typed too soon. Maybe they were waiting for me to type to break the news so I could look dumb.

Glad to have gotten Oweh.

Because he held JJ with a high school QB throwing to him to 3/57? wow indeed
Detroit's pass defense was pretty bad overall the past several years. I don't know how anyone could think a guy that wasn't resigned there on team that is in need of help in the backfield is an answer for us.

Just really sad the way Peters makes us try and justify the moves. :pint:

Tunsil, backup QB, nickel corner, and edge sounds so much better. What a difference one signing makes.
