The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I knew you'd say neither lol. Thanks
I actually really like Reese. I’m just not sure if he’s a pure pass rusher, so I think you’re taking him hoping he is but knowing he can play backer. I wouldn’t be opposed to him if we had a clear plan for him. Though I prefer Styles.

Bailey… I’ve said it a few times. I think he has sky high potential but is heavily inflated because he is a pass rushing edge. I wouldn’t take him in the top 10 if it was all about getting the best bang for your buck on talent/ceiling/floor

But I’d take him in the low to mid teens. Maybe even a touch earlier given this class.

I’m not totally out on the kid. I just think he’s going to be asked to do a lot and I’m not sure he’s ready for it… yet.

If we do this, Peters has a major blind spot for receivers.
If we draft Styles over Tate, you mean?

If so… hold on to your socks here…

Peters is partially to blame, buuuuuttttttt…. I think that is a Quinn move 100%

I'm still having trouble with Reese. I agree if they had a clear plan but its murky waters for me. I can see so much more with Styles and I know what I can get and improve with Bailey.

The key for Reese is the plan. If you don’t have one he can really quickly become a bad pick.

Most drafts I look at with hope. This one I am incredibly anxious.

Which really is a Peters issue because he has final say
It’s a systemic issue.

This is why I said once we fired both coordinators we probably should have moved on from Quinn. He has too much input for a guy who HAS to have success and too narrow vision for me to believe he’s going to achieve it (at the moment. This can change depending how the rest of this offseason plays out)

That is a topic for the other thread. But, yeah.

Yes. This won't be popular but most of the other edges that may go in the first round, I know what I am getting. WIth some, what you see is what you get like both from Miami. With others it more of a wow what potential we can still unlock like Zion or Lawrence...loaded with potential

Totally understand that. AP's attachment to DQ which is normally what you want as a relationship between the HC and GM may kill us. This season will be the tell tale

The one move that I can guarantee you will happen tonight is that when the Skins get ready to pick, the networks will cut to commercial.
Liked the Steve Smith breakdown alot, wouldn't mind Tate at all.

I agree. I’m all for a FO that works collaboratively, but if there was ever a time for AP to step forward and be the GM we want, it’s this draft.

Yeah AP needs to realise that he doesn’t want to take himself out with a HC that is clearly on the bubble. All worked nicely at first, I think it’s time for AP to step up, especially as he’s probably got the potential to last here much longer than DQ.

I agree with a lot of this really. Chig has big shoes to fill, Ertz was Jayden’s go to guy. Why Deebo and Biadasz are not on our roster is a mystery to me. Our OC is a complete unknown. Our best running back was a 7th round pick who has had some fumbles.

But we have invested in Jayden. Massive resources went into the offensive line, so we protected him first. We paid Terry, hopefully he earns it this year.

We drafted guys like LMC, Lane, and Sinnott. A lot depends on if any of those investments pay off this year. I gather you don’t think they will. I believe one of them will, probably Luke if I were betting.

I also have to say I think Dyami has the potential to break out. Really go back and look at what he did in the playoffs with Jayden, they were clicking. We kept the wrong Brown last year, but at least we brought the right one back this year. I get not wanting to count on that and Terry’s health though.

Anyway, I do agree we need a WR, but we need a CB too. Sainristil and Amos are our starters. I like them but which one do you put on Justin Jefferson or CeeDee Lamb? Then we have Amik Robertson for nickle, not terrible, but then what? That cupboard is also bare.

So in the end, I could support taking whoever is the best WR or CB in the draft, which is just as well because we probably end up with Tate or Delane anyway.

I am a little higher on Peters drafting then some here. Not that he's killed it. He's been so so IMO.

McCaffrey for a late round 3rd IMO is a good pick. Lane for a later round 4th is a good pick. Peters has IMO mastered high floor mid round-late round picks -- not exciting but not failures either and most 3rd-7th rounders bust.

Dyami had 2 nice games in the playoffs, that's sort of been his career highlight. He averages 200 yards per season. His "peak" Jayden season he pulled 300 yards. He's been a backup, just a guy. Granted a better backup than what they had though.

The O line is good. Tunsil and Paul are two of the best pass protectors in the league. Conerly and Cosmi are good. Center unknown.

My problem is the lack of ambition. I am not expecting ANY GM to nail WR studs with late third round or late 4th round picks. I am not expecting a GM to nail starters at WRs who are street free agents. So I don't really see Peters with big swings and misses. I see him as a dude who lacks urgency-doesn't see code red to help his franchise QB.

NE and Chicago have higher ranked O lines via PFF than this one -- and they built them while ALSO building a supporting cast for their franchise QB.. NE also took a crap defense and made it good within one off season,

Almost feels like Peters doesn't think he can accomplish multiple things in an off season. Other teams are shooting for all A report cards and Peters is going I did get an A in this class, but C's and D's in other classes are fine -- give me another off season and then I'll get the straight A report card.

This issue is he has a rookie QB on a rookie contract, he's running out of time. He doesn't have forever. You can accomplish more than just one thing in an off season.

I don't fault Peters for not finding the next Terry with a late third or late forth. I fault him for that's the pond he's fishing in. The idea that he can find the next Zaccheus or whomever as their starting Z off the street -- I don't fault him for missing on. I fault him for shopping in that aisle.

Yeah if he was killer at his job he might be able to pull it off but he's just been OK IMO. And lol, I think that Zaccehus hit off the street set the franchise back some because it felt like Peters believed he can do it again and again and again.

NE has a better OL? Isn't their OL why the offense stunk in the playoffs?

Chicago yeah, they run the ball really well without stellar RBs. We couldn't do what they did last year.

Seattle gameplanned NE very well. But their offensive line was pretty solid. Of course, it needs work.

On paper ours was probably better. Not sure that’s the case on paper now.

Tate is a hands catcher, rarely traps it with the body.... I'm sold on him at #7. Wouldn't mind Love either but I don't think he'll be there at our pick. #HAIL

I woke up this morning and said (to myself)

“self… today is the day we draft Carnell Tate. The defensive mandate is a lie to throw everyone off our scent. It’s going to be a good day”

And that is my stance. We are drafting Tate. And/or trading Payne for BTJ. That one I haven’t convinced myself of yet. But Tate? Yup. It’s happening.

Sure is.

No doubt.

Right?

Guys?

Keim's last predraft podcast and factoring other recent appearances -- decoding some of it

A. Styles or Love their top picks -- that he seems confident about

B. Delane likely next among those who could fall to 7 -- he doesn't feel totally confident on this but that's his best guess

C. The tea leaves he seems to imply are from others in that building who admit that they don't always know what Peters is thinking

D. Feels like Tate and Downs would be next if not Delane

E. He gets mixed opinion about Tate from his contacts so he doesn't know what to make of it

F. They have had teams contact them about Daron Payne. He's not sure if they trade him though -- thinks a 3rd rounder at best for him, more likely a 4th.

Bram was going on about how they need to take defense and that Jayden can elevate the offense without studs. I couldn't disagree more. This isn't 33 year old Tom Brady. This is a dude who basically about to launch his 2nd season considering last year he only started 6 games,

Really hoping someone pins a picture of Demariyus Thomas on Peters’ bathroom mirror this morning…
