The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

When Daniels played, he sometimes showed the skills that had set the league on fire the year before, throwing eight touchdowns for 1,262 yards and three interceptions, while rushing for 278 yards.

But much of the time, he was under attack, his ability severely hampered by injuries to his skill position players — average when healthy — and a defense that often left him handcuffed.

Playing with receivers that were sometimes picked off the street, Daniels often found himself in poor field position and playing from behind. The Commanders ranked 25th in the league in starting field position, while their opponents were fourth throughout the season.

Their defense was ranked 27th, with a league-worst minus-14 turnover margin.

Peters tried to level the playing field for Daniels by using free agency, signing seven defensive players, including a $100 million deal for edge rusher Odafe Oweh. But offensively, the spending spree — the Commanders had $90 million in available cap space, sixth in the NFL — was limited to tight end Chig Okonkwo and two backup running backs, Rachaad White and Jerome Ford.

The No. 7 pick in this year’s draft gives Peters a chance to draft an impact offensive player and significantly fill the need of helping his young quarterback, because, as his boss has said, “Times a-wasting.”

Not draft related but from what I remember of 2025 Kliff never adjusted to the blitz. I think of the Vikes game in particular, they kept sending the house and Jayden was under attack the entire game.

Fair to say the first couple of hours of the draft should make good viewing. So unpredictable at this stage.

The most recent Jeremy Green appearance on Take Command was pretty fascinating. Some different takes compared to this forum.
Among other things, doesn’t love Tate for us, but the Jets love him. Jeremy loves Faulk and thinks we should take him at 16 after trading back with the Jets, then Mike Washington at 44. Wild. Talk about a board meltdown if that happened, lol. Thinks there will be good receivers at 71, but that corners drop off in the 2nd.

Yeah I am half way through it. If combine-30 day visits are prologue if they trade down that far, I am guessing it would be for a WR.

Mike Washington at 44 feels rich to me. 71 its fine. But I know Jeremy and Paulsen are big fans of him.

If they want to trade back. and Jeremy is on to the idea that the Jets want Tate -- makes me think its possible this FO is playing Schrager on their interest in Tate or maybe to get New Orleans to trade ahead of them to get Tate so that pushes another player down to them.

We got McShay yesterday suggesting Tate's ceiling is 8, that's a change from him. And I am still riding with Keim's takes from recent podcasts where he doesn't think Tate unless its part of a trade down but will see if Keim shifts today.

And of course its possible that everyone is wrong.

Conception vs Delane

Yeah, he's not really a Top 10 guy (Delane). Likewise Tate isn't a Top 10 guy either. But this draft has such little top end talent that both are Top 10 guys for this draft, and the fall off from these two gets even worse as well. Draft is loaded with Day 2 picks, barely any 1st rounders, and almost no Blue Chip.

Jordyn Tyson and Jermod McCoy are (imo) a clear talent level above Delane and Tate. But the current rumor is McCoy might need another surgery on his knee, and Tyson has had 2 hamstring injuries (same hamstring right?). Repeated soft tissue injuries can happen after a big joint injury.

That was my first thought seeing Schrager’s tweet.

Not directed at you:
I don’t love rb at 44 (if we were to get 16 and 44 from the Jets), though I don’t really have a feel for Mike Washington. But though I think our rb room is ok, there’s still a need there. Green seems to think the talent falls off big time after he goes. Of course, he sees a similar drop off with corner (in the 2nd), so I think that might be the route I’d go depending on who’s there.

He and Logan think a good receiver will be there at 71 and they won’t be much of a drop off from the top guys (Tate/Lemon/Boston). He also mentions the receiver class being insanely deep, which is interesting given our 4 picks in the last 3 rds. I could see us doubling down - either at 71 and then late, or in the 1st after a trade back from 7 and again later.

Specific to Faulk, as I said, he likes him a lot and thinks he’s a great fit for our defense in particular. And we’d be beating Dallas to the punch (who’d take him at 20), in his opinion.

If we stick at 7, I’d hope Delane is there (he may well not be though), and then we go receiver at 71 and again late. We address a big time need at corner (which we likely miss out on later), with a stud, and then take advantage of the receiver depth.

The WR position is deep and in the 3rd round Sarratt, Lance, Hurst and Stribling should be available at #71.

There are some age issues with a few of these guys, and that's why they're projected later picks. Lance's athletic potential is tantalizing, all of his athletic testing is apparent every play on tape. But he's raw...and already going to be 25 years old shortly after the season starts. If he was 21, we would be talking about him as a 1st rounder. But he's going to be 25 soon so the odds of him developing in the NFL are limited. Stribling will be 24 towards the end of the season, he's on his 3rd college team, that kind of gives me too much pause. Hurst will be 22 in training camp. So his age is fine. Sarratt will be 23 next month, and given he's less raw and more of a higher-floor-but-lower-ceiling prospect his age is also fine.

Combining that with other Day 2 picks:
  • Bryce Lance will be 25 at the start of the season
  • Malachi Fields will turn 24 in training camp
  • Skyler Bell will turn 24 in training camp
  • Stribling will be 24 end of the season
  • Elijah Sarratt will be 23 post-draft
  • Chris Brazzell will be 23 at the start of the season
  • Germie Bernard will be 23 towards end of the season
  • Antonio Williams will turn 22 in training camp
  • Ted Hurst will be 22 in training camp
For 1st to early 2nd rounders:
  • Omar Cooper will be 23 towards the end of the season
  • Denzel Boston will be 23 towards the end of the season
  • Makai Lemon will be 22 by training camp
  • Jordyn Tyson will be 22 during pre-season
  • KC Concepcion will be 22 at the start of the season (why didn't he do any athletic testing?)
  • Carnell Tate will be 22 in the playoffs

I think this is a scheme issue with Mansoor, although the one rep where he is aligned at the top of the screen with inside leverage on Concepcion… I absolutely abhor how easily Delane let KC inside of him. You cannot lose that leverage there. You’re aligned inside, he’s not really too much of a threat anywhere inside if you maintain leverage.

But the reps where he starts off and rolls down… I mean, having a guy change direction mid rep against a speed threat is a catastrophic coaching error.

Looking at Logan Paulsen's Big Board, for WR he's got (striking out guys with too much injury/mental risk):

12. Carnell Tate
15. Omar Cooper
18. Makai Lemon
24. Jordyn Tyson (but says if medicals are cleared he'll go Top 10)
28. Denzel Boston
33. KC Concepcion
47. Germie Bernard
52. Chris Brazzell
55. De'Zhuan Stribling
63. Ted Hurst
65. Elijah Sarratt
71. Chris Bell
78. Antonio Williams
83. Malachi Fields
88. Zachariah Branch
95. Bryce Lance
98. Brenan Thompson

  • Surprised but not upset that Cooper is his second receiver.
  • If this is how the draft plays out, and Sarratt/Hurst go by 65. You've gotta be sweating that Williams/Fields make it there.
  • Didn't Antonio Williams show up for a Top 30 visit with the team? I must be misremembering because I can't find that again.

If those guys go in those slots we are in trouble at receiver.

I still don’t understand why this front office is so feast or famine at WR.

We go after top end free agents or hope for a middle draft pick to come in and shock the league but we can’t simply work into position to draft one in the top 50-60 picks or trade for one.

When McVay needed another WR to go with Nakua he went out and got Davante Adams without a lot of fanfare.

Even Dallas gave up a #3 and traded for Pickens and moved on with other problems.

Here we treat the position as a mystery inside a riddle.

Or perhaps like Goldilocks where the porridge is aways too hot or cold and never just right enough to make a practical choice to cover ourselves.

There’s gotta be a choice in between giving Pierce $30M in free agency and bringing in ex-49ers like Deebo and Aiyuk.

Not to get into the whole arm length debate again. But it is difficult to try and press with arms that are as short as Delane's. He's in the 8th percentile. The margin of error is smaller. I know you've said Delane is like Witherspoon, but his arm length is average for a corner. It's like 31.25" or something, not Delane's flat 30".

However, Byron Murphy who fit the Flores Vikings defense well has arm length comparable to Delane. This is what makes me OK but not the happiest with a Delane pick. Like I get it. But not enthralled. Especially if Jayden gets hurt with no offensive weapons around him, coaches get fired, and then we're stuck with Delane who might not fit a new DC/HC scheme as well as we hope (he'll probably still be at least fine).

Corners drafted in the Top 10 almost never have arms as short as Delane. They're usually around 31.5"-33"+ (Ward, Okudah, Horn, Surtain, Sauce). Witherspoon is still over 31". The one exception to that list is Derek Stingley, he also had short arms, but he was more athletic looking on tape than Delane. And also had the rumors of doing really well in practice vs Jamarr Chase at LSU.

I didn’t see the arm length come into play here. I saw a leverage issue. When you have inside alignment and give up an inside stem, you fucked up

Full disclosure… I’ve never heard of this site and have no idea if this is remotely legit.

It’s not legit. It’s a site referencing hypothetical comments made by Jesse Morse, the worst of the worst of the worst twitter docs.

Ya, I have no idea who any of these people are.

Yeah there a couple medicals reports leaking out today.

McCoy make drop a round because of medicals. I think he got red flaged so he will drip alot because of it.

Tyson knee is could be bad long term I know people are high on him but I think he could drop because of it. He has had alot of injuries there probably some truth to it.

Downs has conflicting reports.

The medicals were a huge part why we took Forbes instead of Gonzalez years ago. So medicals mean alot.

Oh are you talking about the 3rd play where he's maybe 10 yards off? Yeah it's also an example of the "His playspeed does not look like 4.35" factor. When he messes up and/or is a little late reacting, he doesn't quite have that catch-up burst to fix it (like McCoy showed in 2024). He's supposed to have improved technically in 2024 and then again in 2025, so expecting further refinement seems reasonable.

No. He’s at the top of the screen and inside leverage at the LoS and lets him inside on a crosser.

The play you’re talking about is a scheme issue. I hate the way they played him here after a clean man rep from Delane in the first series. Stay with that.

That's the same doc that I posted yesterday saying that McCoy will miss the season if he gets surgery. Skinfanjon basically said that he's the most non credible quack out there
