The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

The Saints/Cardinals trade feels like something the Cards put out wanting to entice some team (not the Saints) to trade up.

It might be true.

It might not be true.

It also might be a total fabrication.

Again, my guess is edge. Whichever of Bailey and Reese isn’t taken by the Jets. That creates a domino effect because an OL doesn’t come off the board (which you noted).

That also means there are no edges on the board for Tennessee. Which makes Tennessee’s pick Love or Styles.

The Giants very likely go the other one of those two, I think.

That takes most of the guys we’d covet off the board with Tate, Downs and Delane remaining.
I’m thinking Cleveland trades out, too, but if not they could go anywhere.

But we should have two of Delane/Downs/Tate on the board.

I have zero interest in Downs at 7. Sub zero actually, if such a thing is possible. He’s in my Bain bin (sorry).

I follow your logic but don’t the Saints run a 3-4 still? Don’t see how Bailey fits. Reese ok, but also not some huge need with Chase Young occupying that side. Not that he’s anything special, but competent enough not to necessitate an expensive trade up.

Guess I’m just not buying it.

If the Jets go Bailey, Reese is an ideal fit for a 34.

In that tweet, Keim is saying Styles to the Giants at 5.
My bad, Skinfanjon. We'd back to Tate/Delane according to others and I'd want Downs at this point. Just saw where you are not a Downs fan but I am.

Totally agree. Is it worth trading up when you already have a somewhat decent player in that spot? Maybe, he’s basically on a one year deal. Still not really buying it though. Seems intended for an audience specifically named Dallas.

I don’t think Chase Young really fits that role. And the Saints have a history of moving up. It’s kinda Loomis’ thing.

Good point. Still not buying, especially considering the source, but good point.

I'm ok with Delane or McCoy, especially if NY drafts a WR. We need some heavy artillery considering every team in the division will have 2 stud receivers, plus we have to play great duos in the Rams, Bengals, vikings, etc. Those rookies will sink or swim going through that gauntlet. Hopefully Jones and the front 7 can help them

I have said this before. The absolute WORST rationale for seeking a trade down is that you gave away picks in moves prior to the draft. If you want all of your draft picks, don't use them in trades - especially unsuccessful ones. There are good rationales for trading down. But trying to recoup picks that you gave up and/or trying to 'undo' previous mistakes in some cases, is not one of them.

Captain Obvious here :co-obvious:, but the biggest downside of ANY trade down is that you move from knowing EXACTLY who may be selected to having to 'wait and see' with absolutely no guarantee guys you have at the top of your board and perhaps are gambling may be there later, will be there later. It's a huge risk.

This trade down for Delane sounds fishy. Why not just take him at #7 if that's who they want?

Would be incredible if someone traded up for Ty Simpson. Cant wait to see what happens Thursday.
