The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I am relaying you what numerous serious Jet fans are saying...and they do not know each other. Make sense or not, they do not trust their owner and have seen the other stars traded away. Hall does not want to play on the franchise tag. They were supposed to work out a long term deal but sounds like that isn't working out so well.
Jets fans are not a really reliable source of information about anything.

They do have one thing right: their owner has tossed his hat into the ring of “worst owner in the NFL” now that Snyder doesn’t have that title on lockdown.

Not really. He’s kind of a “talent is there and I don’t know enough about the medicals so I’ll include him”
It’s not everything, but he answered a lot of questions with a 4.37 40 and 38” vertical at his pro day.

What’s frustrating is I can’t find anything written about the pro day where he did any other drills or did any other reps against WRs. The coverage is entirely about his times and measurables.

Clearly teams are going to have to do some serious looking at the medicals. But having what would be the second fastest time at the combine for a CB as a foundation seems like at the very least he has his top end speed and acceleration back.

Thats a good sign, given the injury took place in Jan. 2025. So it’s just over a year.

I said this before, if his tape from 2025 is as good as people say it is and he has recovered fully, he is an intriguing prospect.

If Love and Tate are gone.

I get it. but until we see it, we don’t know for sure how they are going to put things together exactly.

I don’t think our defense is going to be a carbon copy of the Flores defense. It will have similar traits but will also be tweaked based on what Jones likes and our personnel.

Which is why I said we don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like yet

A. The very part of the Flores scheme which you question whether they implement was ironically Daronte Jones part of the defense

B. Their FA defensive signings fit the Flores scheme to a tee.

C. Some of the team's beat guys have said team sources have told them its a great scheme for Sainristil and lol his thing isn't press man

D. Daronte used some of this scheme at LSU and in articles that discussed the Flores scheme Darone was mentioned for his heavy involvement with it including taking pride of giving man looks but it ending up zone.

But yeah since we don't know anything with absolute certainty there could be just as strong a chance Daronte throws out the window his bread and butter coverage scheme from Minny and tries a heavy man scheme. Maybe he just runs Quinn's scheme?

all I’m saying is that if he had a lockdown outside corner he might adapt to incorporate that. I think anybody would.

Depending on who falls, I am for trading down and picking up a shut down corner. would not go below 11

If you think you have a shutdown corner at 7, I’d stick and pick.

Unless there are 3 players and you have absolutely no preference between them based on position value and prospect potential.

I personally don’t believe that can be the case. So I’d just pick the shutdown corner at 7. Because you never know, the team you trade down with might pick him. Or anybody before your next pick.

This is a philosophical difference and I’m somewhat on an island. I get that. But it’s a pretty firm belief.

Anyone would love a lock down corner, I am on another thread mentioning corner is a code red spot here. I think their CB room is meh right now.

My point is with the number 7 pick can they get as much out of a corner than they would from some other spots.

I am not sure though Delane is an elite corner. I'd be good with a CB at 7 if they were really exceptional but am on the fence that Delane is.

I was listening to Kyle talk offense with LaFleur and they were saying the one thing that bugs the hell out of them when scheming up a game plan is dominant fronts on the defense. Everything else they felt they can work around. But a front that can create havoc is what gives them nightmares.

With that in mind, I am a front 7 guy over a CB. CBs unless they are elite tend to have some down years in the mix of the good ones, more inconsistency than most spots.

But if you give me Sauce Gardner I am all in. I do think this team desperately needs to add a corner even though this scheme is corner friendly -- because I think the CB room is weak, but I'd do it in the third.

I agree with everything but especially this part.

The third round to me is likely the sweet spot, should be good CBs there.

Don't love, nor do I hate it at 7. I don't get the impression the NFL sees Delane as an elite CB -- feels like he's seen as a good to very good one. You don't know until you know of course but I have greater faith in some of these other prospects.

He's dead last for me among the players I am good with at that spot.

If we are going screw getting the best player, just fill the spot with the biggest weakness than to me its Tate or Delane. If I am choosing between those two players, its easily Tate for me.

If Delane, McCoy, Downs, and Lemons atr there at 7, I could see trading down as far as 11.

Brain not working- should be McCoy not Cooper

I really am intrigued with McCoy.

Though he might be off their board because of all the injuries last year, taking a guy coming off of an ACL is inherently more risky than not taking a guy coming off of an ACL.

I have also heard a lot of folks say receiver is a sweet spot in the third.

I don’t normally agree with Mitch Tischler but in this case I do: I think the first two picks, one will be offense and the other defense. And what we do at 71 will depend on what we do at 7, which will depend on what the 6 teams ahead of us do to a large extent.

Who would trade up and for which of those players? Or is there somebody else there which would entice the trade up?

I was listening to Breer-McShay about what they are hearing and expecting, it seemed like among all things they nwere most confident about Bailey to the Jets.

It certainly could be offense for one and defense for the other. Feels like you really want a corner with the #7 pick.

I think WR's sweet spot likely in the 2nd. In the third, maybe Sarratt, Antione Williams among the ones I like could still be there. As method man likes to say, not the best success rate for Wrs in the third. But I am good with giving it go.

Just like they got Amos last year in the late 2nd, early 3rd likely is a good spot for CB -- could be Stukes, K. Scott, Abney, Igbinosun, Muhammad, Everette. And judging by their meetings, a CB in the the third is on their radar.

What is it about the Jet fan that makes them so unreliable?

Years of living through decades of horrible coaching, front office, GM, owner and so many of all of their poor decisions?

If that's it, then that would put you and all the rest of us in the same pile as the Jet fans.
