The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

No franchise quarterbacks or left tackles likely to be around at #7, doubt anyone is going to move up and give up a lot to do so.

I think we have to hope for Love being there at 7, but agreed on marquee positions.
 
You play to win the game, right?

But 2 pointless wins cost us the choice of just about anybody to having to pick 7th.

I think we are building for a primarily odd front D with Payne, Kinlaw, Settle, Newton, Tuttle and Wise in the fold. If we take Bain, he’s probably a 4-technique in an odd front and a strongside end in even front.

I just don’t see AP taking a big swing and taking him given the risk he carries
 
I think we can eliminate Styles from the board. AP could have easily picked up a guy at that level at serious value in Lloyd and passed when he was willing to overpay elsewhere. Tells us all we need to know about how he feels about our offball LB situation.

I mean that logic also strongly applies to Downs.

AP has rummaged around in the bargain bin twice now at safety (and we have paid the price in wins, or lack thereof).

Regarding safety, what I will say is the FA class was much cheaper than the one at LB.

Anyway, given how deep this safety class is, my guess is AP probably thinks he can find a good prospect at 71 or Day 3

Yup. Thats where I think our pre-draft strategy is currently as well.
 
Reading about the Rams having so few 1st round picks, but not suffering because they coach up their players well and draft well outside of the 1st, does make me circle back to whether trade down is the best approach, and maybe more than once in the 1st. Given our depth is so bad right now, would this not be the logical thing to do, if we did get trade offers?

I'm probably in the draft Love or Downs camp at the moment (especially after picking up an edge rusher) but in a year where many of the top 10 have warts, and what looks like very few blue chip prospects, would this not seem to be the ideal opportunity to revamp the middle of our roster which we know killed us last year with all the injuries? That middle of the roster should have players you hope you can develop into key players, I don't see much there right now sadly.

I get we as a fanbase are scarred by the trade downs of the past, but decent teams like the Eagles who never draft high find plenty of quality later in the draft all the time, so why can't we? We need quality but we also need quantity and youth right now desperately. It just feels like whilst we are picking at 7, this is a really good opportunity to pick up a bunch of extra picks (especially if Love is there at 7) and at the same time, see if AP is who we all hope he is, from an evaluation perspective.

Examine context. The Rams haven’t had more than one bad season in about a decade. Most of the picks they trade are lower half of the first, and when they drafted they drafted Goff and Verse.

They have acquired Stafford, Goff, Ramsey, Cooks off of those firsts as well.

They were in position to make those moves, and they made them well.

I agree that drafting and coaching have helped, but we haven’t shown to be in that place at this point.

They also have had blue chip talent in many places.

We don’t. We have Jayden and Tunsil. Terry is close. We need blue chip. Trading back to take more middle of the road guys isn’t a strategy I’d deploy. But to each their own.

Exactly. AP has not found a single obvious stud after rd 1 so far. I’m not talking about a hit, I’m talking about a stud

You may point to Amos and he looked like a competent outside CB but not a stud. Juxtapose his rookie season with 3 guys in the Rams’ 2023 rookie class - Young, Turner and Nacua
