The 1st Round Pick
I don’t agree with this at all. This represents a massive value loss on game day, I don’t care how happy it makes your cap czar. This is borderline delusional, actually. Sweat has added very little actual value in his career in regards to winning games, while Barkley has single-handedly taken over many, many games. Including playoff games.
There is value to considering how draft slot, cap value, and positional value interact with your premium picks. You’ve taken it too far.
Its hard to quantify, but I don't agree. Barkley has been in the NFL for 8 years and been on one good offense anc a couple other average ones. Part of the problem with RB is it is dependent on other positions and the overall infrastructure. There are different types of running backs, but Barkley is the same type as Love in a general sense. A big play hitter. In 2024, Barkley averaged 5.8 ypc and hit a lot of homeruns. He did that behind the best O-Line in football and arguably the best duo of receivers in football that prevented teams from loading the box. This year he averaged 4.1. He did that behind a still pretty good O-Line. In 2023 he averaged 3.9 in his last year for the Giants. He had two other season with the Giants where he averaged below 4 ypc (both of those were seasons shortened by injury, one where he played in a half dozen games, the other he only had like dozen carries the entire year). In his rookie season with the Giants he ran for 1300 yards on 5.0 ypc. Barkley is a 250 power hitter who can hit between between 20 and 50 homeruns in any give year. When he hits 50 he is a MVP candidate as he is csoring runs and producing RBI's. When he hits 20 he is JAG. When Barkley has an infrastructure that allows him to hit big plays he is fanastic. His make you miss ability is second only to Robinson in Atlanta, he is fast, and has possibility the best burst in the NFL. But his vision varies between very good (he sees both the first and second level) to maybe a little below average (it could be his vision is fine, but his belief he can make a play causes him to bounce it out sometimes when he shouldn't), his power profile is limited, he may make you miss, but if you get him, his contact balance is more average than elite and he is not breaking a lot of tackles when people get good contact on him especially at this stage of his career after the injuries.
Sweat is good every year. His productivity is not reliant on good infrastructure. He is not a homerun hitter. He is a good run defender, who is a solid power rusher, but just lacks the bendiness and flexibility to be a speed rusher despite having a 40 yard dash in the 4'5s. He converts speed to power. In his last 4 years he has gotten 64, 49, 64, and 62 pressures which is a low end 1 high 2 number. He has had 34 sacks over that four year perioid which averages out to a medium 8.5 per year. When combined with his good run defense I see him more as a low end 1. Sweat more of a 300 hitter who will hit 15 to 25 homeruns in a year. Its never MVP level but its more consistent.
