The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Styles comes across as a leader. Nice thing about him is he has played on the back end of the defense as well. Knows defense. I am warming to him at 7. Would prefer Downs still. But I still really like Styles. Really good interview with him here:

 
I’ve thought about this a bunch. I get “BPA” and all, but I want them to spend money in FA on defense and draft offense.

We have what looks like a franchise QB going into year 3. Let’s get some truly excellent prospects to pair with him who can be here with him into second contracts.

I’d love Tate or Love at 7.

Go spend money to fix the defense. Draft offense with your first 2 picks. U less you’re forced to pick defense because there are literally no offensive players in the right range when you pick.

Get Daniels young weapons. Score points. As John Madden said, the team who scores the most points wins the game.

NFL Confidential: Who is Actually the Best Player in 2026 Draft? Execs, Scouts Differ​


In fact, when FOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano, Eric D. Williams and Greg Auman polled a small group of NFL executives and scouts at the Scouting Combine this week and asked them to name the top overall prospect in the draft, four different players received votes. Mendoza and Ohio State safety Caleb Downs tied for first with three votes apiece.

But Ohio State edge rusher Arvell Reese and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love were right behind them with two votes each.

...One league executive singled out Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey and Jeremiyah Love as his top two, then went with the Notre Dame prospect as his top overall player.

However, the personnel executive acknowledged the conundrum of taking a player at a non-premium position high in the draft when quality running backs can be had in the later rounds.

"I wouldn’t take him No. 1 because the supply of running backs far outweighs the demand," the front office executive told me. "But he has the most high-level traits for his position than anyone else in the draft."

To be fair, also with an explosive RB who took over during the playoffs and essentially the best WR this season (top-5 at worst) in JSN.
 
I never said “don’t fix the defense.”

I said draft offense and spend money on defense.

The Seahawks were also, depending on what metric you look at, one of the top 5 offenses in the league as well.

My point is we have a young QB. Surround him with young talent to grow with.

Reason I am concerned about Bailey skipping it. The more tape I watch the stiffer he looks to me. That was supposed to be Faulks main issue. This draft class is just so average at best. All of the top 10 prospects have limitations imo.

This is why I find myself drawn to the potential true BPA in Love. He may actually have the least flaws for his position and pedigree. No, he’s not Barkley or Bijan as a prospect, but he’s right below in that Gibbs tier. And in this class that may be the most talented player with the production to match.
 
This is an odd class in that some of the best players are in non premium positions.

Love may be arguably the best in the class.

Downs isn’t far behind. And Styles doesn’t get enough hype. I throw Reese in, too. Although he’s testing as an edge, he’s got more linebacker than edge in him right now. Though I can see that changing.

I obviously think Bain belongs in that grouping and you can throw in Mendoza and Tate as well. Then guys like Delane come in for me.

But there are a lot of guys who are in non premiums at the top. I can’t think of a draft with this high of a percentage.
