The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I see one of the potential movers to be Jermod McCoy, especially if the Combine and physicals show him to be back to 100%. If the combine shows him to have regained explosiveness and speed, do you think he surpasses DeLane? Does he move into top 6?? I don't know that anyone picking ahead of us has a glaring need for CB over other spots although it would be nice if someone moves up to slide Downs, Bain, Reese, or Love down.

IMO, the only elite talents in this draft are Downs and Love, if either are availbale at 7 you take them, otherwise, put all effort into a trade down, the difference/drop off in prospects at positions of need is not that large. Will Bain be a much better pro that say, Howell or TJ Parker?
Health aside, how do you feel about Tyson

This is the argument I've made several times. It will cost a lot of money to get the highest level FA WR or Edge. That's why I am pretty high on a guy like Tyson. A lot of people want Pierce but some say he may get 30mil and despite his size, he's mostly only been a deep threat. Tyson is a brilliant route runner and looks great on all 3 levels. The WR on a rookie contract is enticing to me along with Bailey for the same reasons.

Along with RB, it has been the crux of the discussions not to draft a S, IOL, TE, or LB too early. One caveat on LB we will see this year is the LB's roles have recently been changing. In FA we will see LBs like the Jaguars Lloyd receive a hefty contract. In the draft we will see Reese and Styles go early due to their versatility

Unless Tyson has a surprising combine, which is possible, I suspect he falls out of the top 10. But the WR corp in general I think is going to shift more than most spots post combine.

TBH, I haven't seen enough of him.

I believe he was the top WR prospect coming into the season, but injuries hit.

Based on injuries, 7 would be too high, I would feel more comfortabel taking Tate at 7 if I had to choose.

Probably smart from Bain if he knew his arm measurements would generate a lot of buzz
Oh yeah, this doesn't come as any big shocker. The longer he waits to get an arm measurements, the longer he avoids negative publicity.

Regardless of a short arm measurement, he will still go at least top 10 if not top 5.

Tyson is my favorite WR. I however have his injury concerns. Based on what AP and DQ have saved about who they bring in this year and Tysons history, he should be off their boards or at least knocked down the ladder only in their sights if they trade back away.

Is this real? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a player just skip the combine entirely. This doesn’t inspire confidence. Even with short arms, if he could run and jump decently, I think he would participate?

When I see this kind of thing, I think, short arms, can’t run, can’t jump, is hiding from the process. I still think he’s one of the top prospects, but I’m not going to take a guy dodging the process, with more question marks, over a guy that goes though the process, with less question marks. To me, this is a little bit like Chase Young saying he’s just not going to run. That was one of the first red flags to me.

I think Tate > Tyson straight up as players without diving into what else. But not by a mile but by a clear enough margin IMHO. But then you add the injury history and IMO Tyson's quirky personality that makes me wonder -- it adds up as a no brainer IMO to go Tate.

But I do think Tate is going before 7 unless he has a really pedestrian 40. Tyson I think definitley will be there at 7. And precombine, I do think Love and Downs will be there at 7, too.

If I had to guess right now top 6: Mendoza, Bailey, Reese, Bain, Mauigoa, Tate. If I had to bet on one of these 6 not going that high it would be Bain.

Downs and Fano feel like wildcards. Maybe one of them can knock Bain or Tate out. Maybe the Cards take Love, another wildcard.

Good point. Maybe it isn't, I haven't see it anywhere else.

From Brugler, if Tate runs in the 4.4's he can buy his Titans or Giants jersey that week.

Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State

Right now, Tate is the favorite to be the first wide receiver drafted, but will that still be the case leaving the combine?

I think so. Tate is deceptively fast because his long strides allow him to gain ground quickly. It won’t be surprising if his 40 time is closer to 4.4 than 4.5.

Rueben Bain Jr., edge, Miami

Bain had dominant moments on his 2025 tape. He is also a polarizing prospect among scouts. With his non-traditional body type and shorter arms, some teams view his skill set as a better fit inside as a three-tech rather than as an edge.

Will his verified measurements and athletic testing answer some of those questions? Or will they make him even more polarizing?

If Tate runs close to a 4.4 he’s not gonna make it to our pick.

Absolutely. lol, now i am rooting for him to be in the 4.5's. A dude with those ball tracking skills, height combined with catch radius and incredible hands -- you throw speed in that mix, and that's really special.

For those that dig Tyson. I dig him, too. But I don't get the thought that he's better than Tate and its the injuries alone that makes the conversation otherwise Tyson would pull away.

Tate has the softer hands, is the better blocker, tracks the ball deep better, is better with contested catches, high points the ball better IMO. Heck he even has better YAC numbers. The one thing that annoys me on twitter about some plugging Tyson is they go he's a demon with the ball in his hands -- no he's not.

Tyson to me is really quick and elusive and tempos his routes well in tight spaces. He hasn't been a deep threat or a demon with the ball in his hands. He's sort of cross between IMO a poor man's Odell Beckham and a rich man's Jamison Crowder IMO. I'd love to have him. so I do like him.

But I do think his injuries have given a crutch to his narrative, the disclaimer about the injuries have been so loud that it gives the vibe that he's an elite superstar without them. IMHO he's very good. But with or without injuries, I'd still take Tate and it doesn't feel super close. And I'd go Lemon over him, too. Boston is pretty close IMO as well.

I don't think we get KC's 3rd. As a comp, in the 2023 draft, the Eagles traded a 4th to move up a slot for Jalen Carter who was a much better prospect

Was Jalen Carter a, “much better prospect”, though? He plays a more premium position. I don’t think he’s a better player. And if I could choose Love, or Carter for this team. I think I’m choosing Love.

I’m not sure passing on Love is a great idea unless the haul is overwhelming.

Seconded. The only way I pass on love is if we sign Hall or Walker.

Finally, some real information to discuss!

Spent some time this weekend snooping on other teams media and lurking on their message boards, trying to gather intel on who they are most likely to take...

Jets: Jets nation seems to be in lockstep. Defense at two, and they are praying Tyson or Lemon falls to them at 16 (if not, back up plan is TE Saddiq or one of the second tier WRs). They are looking at the pick of the litter among pass rushers. The media is trying hard to push Reese on them, and a lot of their fans are fine with that. But just as many prefer Bain and to a lesser degree Bailey. There’s a little support for Downs as well, but not much. They’ll almost certainly be taking the one of the three edge guys, the only question is which one rises to the top of the board come April. Can only guess at this point.
Pick: Bain

Cardinals: The vibe with Arizona fans is ‘we suck, our O line is a disaster and it’s always a disaster’. So the majority are content to take the top OL on the board and fill their biggest hole. Maui-wowie. There is however a significant faction that prefers a pass rusher, and Bain is mentioned the most while some like Bailey (there’s almost zero talk of Reese, but I do wonder if that’s because they think he’s going to the Jets from the mocks out there). And similar to with our fans (myself included) there is a faction of BPA/star power support for Love and Downs. But there is pushback on both. Love would be set up for failure with such a bad line in front of him. With Downs it’s even if he hits we’ve had a great safety with Buddha Baker and the defense still sucked. In the end, though, it’s most likely the obvious pick and the majority of mockers have it correct.
Pick: Mauigoa

Titans: they need a receiver, and there’s some talk about giving young QB Ward that weapon. But also a general sense that none of the receivers are really worth a top 4 pick. Most of the noise is they really want a pass rushing stud up front for incoming HC Saleh. Bain, Bailey, or Reese. Bailey is thought to be a perfect fit for the system so he’s probably the choice, especially if Bain is gone.
Pick: Bailey

Giants: in order to find any information on the Giants, you have to wade through hundreds of articles about them taking Caleb Downs. If you make it that far, you will find significant pushback based on the position value argument. For those people it’s generally receiver, and the vast majority seem to think Tate is the best. So it’s really a two horse race… Downs or Tate. New ‘coach centric’ GM Harbaugh will be the one deciding though, and he has already professed his love for Downs. It breaks my heart, but I can’t ignore that.
Pick: Downs

Browns: receiver and OT are the big needs. Fano is a beast, and the Fanbase will mostly be content with him as the pick. However, there is plenty of love for Tate and Downs. This is amplified because there are a lot of Ohio State fans in the Browns fan base. The Browns could take the boring but sensible pick with Fano (and that would be the best scenario for us) but more likely ownership will see a lot more juice with one of the OSU guys. Tate makes the most sense, both in terms of filling a need and selling tickets. Will be telling to watch what they do in free agency.
Pick: Tate

Conclusions…
One of Bain, Bailey, Reese will most likely fall to us. The Jets and Titans will decide our fate on this. I think it’s Reese, because the other two are more of a sure thing upfront, and Reese feels like a tweener LB/DE. The national media does seem to love him, but local media and fans not nearly as much.

We’re not getting Caleb Downs. Sadly. He is seen by most as the best player in the draft, and one of the teams ahead of us is surely going to put aside the positional value argument and take him. He is the one player that every team ahead of us is at least considering.

Love will be there for us. The only team that seems to be considering him at all is Arizona, and again there’s too much fear that he’ll be the next Jeanty behind their crappy line.

Our choices may well be coming down to Reese, Love, Styles, Tyson/Lemon. For me that makes for an easy call…LOVE! But if we are fortunate enough to have Breece or K9 (or maybe Etienne) on our roster, it makes for a good debate among the other guys. Reese then would be my choice for the upside and good fit.
