The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

A few weeks ago, I got the ball rolling on a divisive topic: Bain is a polarizing prospect among NFL scouts, mostly because of his body type and the way he wins as a pass rusher. He stands 6-foot-2 and 277 pounds with 30 3/4-inch arms, so some scouts project him inside as a three-technique while others see a base end. Some grade him in Round 1; others aren’t as optimistic. The first-round microscope is often merciless and stringent.

Let me be clear: That doesn’t mean Bain isn’t a good prospect (quite the contrary). But his evaluation is complicated. I believe Bain will be drafted in the first round — there aren’t 32 more impactful players in the draft. I was underwhelmed with Bain’s tape at times this season, especially in losses to Louisville and SMU, but his power and relentless motor directly lead to disruption. Those traits will be essential in getting the Buckeyes’ offense off schedule.

As for Mesidor, the super senior teased impact-level play but struggled with consistency in previous years, and foot injuries derailed his 2023 season and parts of 2024. Now healthy again, the native of Canada is playing his best ball (55 pressures in 12 games). Bain finished with more sacks against Texas A&M, but Mesidor was more impressive on tape and had a greater impact. He is a more diverse pass rusher than Bain, and you feel his active play style on every snap.

...With his football IQ, athleticism and toughness, safety Caleb Downs is the total package. At linebacker, Sonny Styles is a physical freak who is playing faster and more physical in 2025 and doesn’t miss tackles (he literally hasn’t missed a tackle in 13 games this season, according to PFF). Box-score scouts are disappointed that hybrid linebacker Arvel Reese, who will be one of the first players drafted in April, doesn’t have more sack production — but that isn’t what Ohio State asks him to do. His value is that he can be whatever you need him to be, and Matt Patricia has capitalized on his ability to spy and shut down the edges.

However, the most underrated part of the Buckeyes’ run-game dominance this season has been nose tackle Kayden McDonald. At 330 pounds, he moves light on his feet to shut down inside runs, and he resets the line of scrimmage with power behind his hands. McDonald has joined Downs, Styles and Reese as a first-round prospect for the 2026 NFL Draft.

I am more positive on Quinn than some. But I thought the sequences in the Eagles game of Quinn giving up on the game and then setting up the rematch like its a big deal was the low point for me.

Siranni I think checkmates Quinn with this one.

A. Insults Washington some more with we will play the backups

B. If Washington wins they will look pathetic if Quinn does an over the top post game speech about how we showed them

C. If the Eagles win with their backups it makes Washington look even more pathetic
I think Sirianni is has the most punchable face of any coach in the NFL (note his "THEY'RE NOT TALKING NOW!" after eeking out a should-have-been-loss against the Bills where they did not complete a pass in the 2nd half.) But I don't see them resting starters against us as an insult, calling it a bye, maybe. We're still starting Josh Johnson at QB. That's a handicap in any NFL game...except, maybe, for one started by Ben DiNucci.

I don't really see Philly resting starters as anything other than a business decision.

The Eagles have little to play for. They're locked into the division and can't win the 1 seed. I guess they are competing for 2nd seed, but they're guaranteed either 2nd or 3rd seed, so if you're weighing the wear and tear of trying to win this week and improve seeding vs taking whatever seed you get and rolling with it. And if you're thinking ahead to who you play, well you're either facing the 7th or the 6th seed, while the dangerous 49ers are locked into 5th seed, so its the difference between the Packers or the Rams, which you probably don't have much of a preference there anyway.

So logically resting starters makes sense.

Also, we're not exactly throwing our first string out there either. Injuries have us down to 2nd/3rd string all over the place. Heck we're so injured, DQ has been forced to play young players and rookies!

This feels like a trap game, in that we win, drop a spot in the draft, and then come draft day, miss out on our top guys because they all got snagged by the time we picked.

It was funny in that video to see AJ Brown visibly holding back an eye roll, he hates that man. That locker room is on the verge of imploding imo, despite the elite talent scattered across the roster the foundation with Sirianni is just not strong enough, especially as the offensive play calling regresses immensely and Hurts slumps. They aren’t insurmountable in this division next year if we get our shit together.

Don't get me wrong. I think it has zero to do with anything Quinn related but the icing on top is I think it makes Quinn if that's how they get down, will see them in 2 weeks, come off a bit more silly by sheer coincidence.

Tyson's injury history doesn't concern you KDawg?
Sure does. But I’m waiting to see what the people who talk to teams say about it.

RE: Bain - I think he is the best all around edge available. He is good against the run, he is above average as a pass rusher and he has a motor and is a closer.

Mesidor is a much more diverse pass rusher, is above average as a run stopper but is older and inconsistent.

Bain is very likely an end of round 1 early round 2 guy based on the league’s values of pass rusher above all, but I think he fits us incredibly well.

I just am not sure we’re going to want him at 6ish.

Absolutely. And Dallas is a bit screwed with the Pickens contract up, etc. I don't love the reports about them chasing Brian Flores but will see. The Giants have some talent but can't put it together for whatever reason.

If there are some upsides to this lost season.

A. They stumbled on depth at WR
B. Their O line had time to work out the kinks and potentially can be really good.
C. Barkley will be one year older. Eagles do not look as invincible as they did in 2024
D. Peters has a template for what works and doesn't and that includes half assing FA. Yes to guys like Josh Sweat, no to name that 32 year old cheap FA. Bram and Keim talked about this in their recent podcast.
E. I doubt Quinn doubles down on the uber light camp where among other things he cares less if his franchise QB gets any reps with his WRs in preseason games
F. The Joe Whitt experiment is gone.
G. I don't think its hard to see that this team put a lot on Jayden compared to Caleb and some of the other young QBs. I expect this to change
H. To point G your offense can't be held hostage by one player (Terry). I am listening to Von Miller the other day talk about how different this team is by just having Terry. That's true. But it shouldn't be. You need more than just one great offensive weapon.
I. I actually think for their faults Quinn and Peters are very compeititve and am liking to see what they can do after be written off by some
J. Jayden works his ass off, I am looking forward to his revenge tour
H. Fa and the draft seem to be tailor made to address this team's weaknesses
I. More than 100 million in cap room and a high draft pick.

I don't see that part of it as an insult. But its the comment from the Philly reporter which was they won't say it publicly but they feel they will beat Washington with their backups anyway.

To me I need Peters to go 100 miles an hour in FA and address needs. If he does so, Love would be fun.

The got the O line IMO, they got a running QB. They got two TEs who are great blockers. Imagine adding an elite RB to that mix?
True but imagine having a good pass catching TE that can add YAC too. I expect we've seen the end of Ertz.

Bain is so hard for me to figure out. lol, i need to spend more time on it. Not a lot of games to watch on some of these prospects I assume that will change once the college season is over.

I think I've talked myself into Tyson. I still like Tate over him. But Tyson is so good at seperating, can beat man and zone, has good releases. My issue with him aside from durability is he's ordinary at YAC and isn't a big deep threat -- he's more of a dude who kills on the first and 2nd level.

But he's so consistent, and can seperate so well including in tight space, and ala Terry can make some spectacular catches even with defenders draped on him. If Tate is gone, and they go Tyson lets say at 7, I've seen enough that I'd be good with it.
Wow, you were all in on Tate. I agree with the separation ability of Tyson and why I have had him over Tate. We will all be bouncing back and forth on these players over the next few months. We have the playoffs over the next couple weeks and Senior Bowl before the combine and workouts.

Scrolling through the top DE/EDGEs in the league--the majority are 1st rounders: 8 of the top 15 are 1st rounders. You have the occasional stud in the 2nd, like Bonitto, or later like Crosby--but Garrett, Hutchinson, Parsons, Burn, etc. It's becoming like QBs, sure you can strike gold in later rounds, but the scales are tipping towards the top picks.
In fairness if you ran any position you would most likely see the same thing. Blue chippers are taken in the first round the majority of the time at all positions.

Add in the fact that we legitimately have a chance to move up the draft board and Sirianni makes Quinn look like and assclown again if we win an absolutely meaningless game. We have more to lose than either team has to win in this game. It is infuriating.

It could go the other way, too.

Sirianni might be thinking he effed up and that the Commanders will be out for blood and so he is deciding to hide his players to protect them from injury. Probably not, but maybe.

I put as much stock in BR as PFF. Which is very little. But I do agree with their grading of Bailey. He is too small to be an every down edge. And he lacks the bone structure to get bigger. I want to see what he weighs at the combine. IMO there is no way he is carrying 250 pounds. Chop Robinson is a really good comp from them imo.

Areas of Improvement

2 of 4
Oregon State v Texas Tech

John E. Moore III/Getty Images
- Slightly undersized to be a full-time edge defender in the NFL, Stanford had Bailey listed at 238 pounds in 2024 and Texas Tech's listing at 250 looks generous.
- Lacks the strength to be an effective run defender; he struggles to get extension on blocks and has skinny legs, which makes setting the edge against offensive linemen difficult.
- Not very physical at the point of attack.
- Has a habit of working around blocks, even against tight ends, often vacating his gap.
- Doesn't have the mass and strength to effectively turn speed to power against good competition.

My current list of guys I want in the first:

Tyson
Tate
Bain
Love
Faulk

This list will change many times and is not in order.

Mine likely will change, too. For the moment its

Tate
Love
Downs
Bailey
Tyson

If they trade down: Styles, Lemon. Maybe Kenyon Sadiq
