The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Bottom line is we need to lose next week. Every 3-13 team has a higher SOS than us. If we lose any of them that win we would jump over in draft order.

Like I said, Bills are choke artists. That may have been the easiest, most gimmee two point play I've ever seen and Allen with no real pressure sails it three feet wide of a receiver six feet away from him.

Yeah strange, Coleman seems like he'd be a good piece to their puzzle

If they’d put him in the slot and play less 2TE, he could be. They keep trying to shove a square peg into a round hole by making him run struggle cardio routes on the outside against DB’s he can’t beat. He needs to be a jumbo slot. He’s immature though so they may not want to re-fit their entire offense around him and have to depend on him rising to the occasion…but that just makes him more of a bust!

Yes, itt has felt like they are using him incorrectly. I thought he would fair well I Buffalo and shocked he has not done well. He also has had some dropsies

Just saying, some of these Edge guys put on good weight after coming into the league. TJ Watt, Crosby, even Myles Garrett added weight. Parsons tried but his frame couldn't hold it. Burns has the frame for it but hasn't.

I think Bailey likely can and have it not affect things. I think Bain should not add but could even slim down a bit. Reese is a ball of clay. He could add a bit of mass and I don't think it would be a negative.

I don't want guys like (older names here) Aaron Maybin, Vic Beasley, etc. Guys where they don't show much power in their college moves, and then either can't add weight (Beasley) or get way too stiff (Maybin).

I just threw in the Crosby thing for a laugh. Crosby is actually serviceable against the run. I shouldnt have said not any good. My thought is there is no Maxx Crosby in this draft though. As far as effort goes Bain is probably the closest. But his measurables scare me big time. I am starting to come around to the idea of Love at 6 or 7. Especially if we can imrove the front 7 in free agency.

I'd be into Love but I'd be surprised if they take him.
Elite to me in this draft is Tyson, Tate and McCoy. Unfortunately two of those guys have injury histories that are scary. Downs is a hell of a player. But I am not sure about his athleticism. I cant wait to see how he tests. If he is a sub 4.4 guy I am all in on him.

Tyson feels off to being elite but maybe. I'd be stunned if Downs runs under 4.4. But I don't care. It's the same thing people on ES were saying against Kyle Hamilton, where is the speed, etc? Safety IMO is more about instincts, play recognitoon, tackling ability, versatilty, smarts -- and Downs is all of that.

Ed Reed ran 4.57. Brian Branch 4.58 etc. It's not like corner.

Updating. I had one slightly wrong yesterday, Buffalo-Eagles swung it 2 games not 3

Ok they can pick at worse 7 so if Quinn gets his dream win in Philly, we will see them in 2 weeks odd bravado stuff from him its not the end of the world.

But if they lose. We got as many as 5 teams that can be leapfrogged.

Giants - Dallas -- Giants win.
Titans -- Jags -- Titans win. But if the Jags win it does advance 1 game as to SOS for us versus the Browns. By advance meaning weaken SOS which is what we want
Browns -- Cincy. Browns win. But if Cincy wins, it strengthens the Browns SOS by 2 games so helps us with a tiebreaker against them
Jets -- Bills. Jets win.
Cards -- Rams. Cards win.

Now if everything goes against us, and its purely a SOS war with the Browns. The two SOS are close right now.

Monday night we want the Rams to beat the Falcons -- swing of 1 game SOS

Next Saturday
We want the 49ers to beat Seattle. Swing of 2 games SOS

Next Sunday
We want the Pats to beat Miami. Swing of 1 game SOS

And as I mentioned we want the Titans to win and the Browns to win. But if they don't it helps tiebreaker SOS with the Browns. 1 game for the Titans game and 2 for the Bengals one.

I don't think we are going to catch the Browns in terms of tiebreaker. Never say never, but there is just too many division games. For example Baltimore plays Pittsburgh (which will cancel out for Cleveland) and Dallas and Giants play which will cancel out for us. If Cleveland losses that means the Bengals who Cleveland played twice wins, but if we lose it means Philly who we played twice wins. Just lots of divison games, for example bears vs. lions, packers v. vikings, chargers broncos, chiefs raiders (those will just cancel out for us). Because the last week is so intra division games it makes it almost impossible for us to catch Clelevand on SOS. We lost that one.

I expect him to run 4.5 to 4.9 and I am okay with that. His instincts are amazing and that is indeed the top strength for a safety and LB. It makes them faster than clocked time

lol, 47-4.9 I'd be out. I am guessing he runs in the low 4.5s and that's fine for me.

I worry that instinct and knowledge can only take you so far (See Wagner in coverage). A player needs a certain amount of raw athletic prowess.

But Wagner is 35. His speed has visibly diminished from what it was

Sure, but we’re talking about a 5.0 40 yard dash for a coverage guy.

Probably not. I think everything would have to kick in.

Rams
Jags
Pats
49ers
