The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I hope we drive a real impact player. We have drafted so many first round picks that turned out to be okay to blah. The last first round picks that we drafted (that I can remember) who were true impact players were Sean Taylor, Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Williams. RG3 for 1 year.

Trent was taken at #4 overall and was a consensus pro bowl caliber prospect. And he came in and played his LT spot.

Conerly is a good prospect and has upside but he was never a comp for a top 4 pick.

Conerly also is a career LT who was moved to the other side where his lack of lead in his pants and brute strength work against him.

He needs time to transition.

It’s all part of the development process.

10 pounds and time in the offseason on left to right technique will work wonders.
 
In terms of guy who were not great pass rushers in college who became really good in the NFL: Danielle Hunter (4.5 sacks in 38 career games) Rashan Gary (10.5 sacks as a three year sarter) , and Odafe Oweh (0 sacks in hi s last year in college) are examples. Gary and Oweh were first rounders. Hunter was a third rounder.

With where we are drafting, likely top half of round, Washington should not even be looking at guys that have any physical obstacles to getting on field and contributing right away.
 
lets see what he actually measures. There have been are currently are a bunch of good pass rushers around the 32 inch mark. Trey Hendrickson is right at 32 flat, Hassan Reddick is a little over 32. Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and Elvis Dumervil were all guys right around 32 inches. Maybe Bain does go under 31, but its also possible he ends around 32 flat. He obviously won't have long arms, but until the combine comes and we get an actual measurement I would not make up your mind based off of speculation.

Yep. I think the many mocks which have Bain ahead of Bailey are likely fantasy. ditto the mocks that have Bain top 5 and in some cases top 2.

I'd add those like Brugler who if I recall has Faulk top 5, I don't get that either. IMO Faulk will have to kill the combine to be picked that high.

My early bet is Bailey is the first pass rusher taken.

Bailey is my favorite. I can see a world where Reese goes first and the 2 of them and Bain go in the top 10-12. I do believe Bain offers a lot of versatility that the others cannot.

Bain is mocked from #1 to like 45, crazy...making him a huge wild card I guess.
 
Yeah I'd be surprised if Bailey isn't the #1 edge (aside from Reese). He's been mine for weeks. I'll give method man props for pushing me to watch him.

10 forced fumbles in his career. Pass rushing menance. Consistently good pass rusher throughout his career.

He had a great year in 2024 too. His best sack to pass rushes ratio was actually in 2023. Dudes who are athletic freaks -- speed rusher types have been translating well to the NFL in recent years see James Pearce among others.


Among players with as many pass-rushing snaps as Bailey (217 in 2024), he had the second-highest pass-rush win percentage (27.5%) and the highest pass-rushing grade (93.2) in the country, even clearing Penn State's Abdul Carter.

The Stanford Cardinal transfer's snap-to-snap production can be attributed in part to his physical makeup. According to Feldman, the star edge defender bench pressed 405 pounds and squatted 550. He's not just strong — he recorded a max speed of 22.16 mph, abnormal for an athlete of his size (6'3" and 250 pounds).
 
On the size issue, one of the things that always amuses me are the people who say that a wide receiver who is 6'0 200 pounds is a small receiver and probably to light to play while a 6'2 200 pound wide receiver is a big receiver.
