The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

My early take is there isn’t a meaningful gulf between the tier 1 and tier 2 guys at receiver or EDGE
I like a lot of the WRs am watching but starting to think Tate is a peg ahead.

As to pass rush, that am still uncertain about. Some say Reese is in another orbit than the other pass rushers in that Parsons type role. DJ was talking to some draft guy who thought Reese is a better prospect than Parsons was. Personally am still digesting.

I wished I loved either one.

I started watching Reese today on and off and I am starting to buy in but need to watch more.

I like Reese a lot as well. I could see Quinn wanting to go that route for sure. Especially if we bring Preston Smith or another run stuffing vet back.

In theory he’s perfect. Parsons style player with a better reputation as to playing in space and stopping the run.

Some say he’s a rich man’s Jalon Walker who is off to a good start in the pros.

I’ll see if i can find the video of the discussion about him being a better prospect than Parsons was. Look I know that feels like hyperbole considering Parsons is elite.

But Reese is intriguing. He’s long. He’s fast. And he plays both edge and off the ball LB and does both well. He’s strong against the run and is a good spy against running QBs. He’s a multi dimensional player

I agree he is a multi dimensional player. My concern is the talent around him is elite and he is a one year wonder.

In my mind the pass rusher we are looking for is a DE not a hybrid rusher or LB sized performer.

Micah Parsons with his hand in the dirt was one reason Dallas was so poor against the run in critical situations, including the playoffs.

I favor a passing rushing DE that is 6'4 and runs about 265 and has the strength to hold up as a three down player on the line.

I don't care about other players are good around him narrative -- it comes with the turf with teams like Ohio State, Georgia, etc, and these guys have done well by and large in the NFL. And even playing along, its not like Ohio State has some killer edge player on the other side where the focus is off Reese. I get the point more if lets say we are talking about Height at Texas Tech where is he benefitting from Bailey on the other side.

He has a higher PFf grade for 2024 than this season. He was just used differently this year where he was used much more playing edge.

I do to. For me that guy is Faulk.

I watched a game of his, and yawn. But lol I know I have to watch more.

2 sacks. 9.99 percent pass win rate which is actually bad.

I was reading one write up that compared him to Shemar Stewart in that he's raw and freakish and look at worse you get a strong run defender with some occasional pass rush.

I am biased though to dudes with great get offs and good bend -- that's not Faulk. Bain sort of is that guy (Bailey more so) but I can't get over his short arms and he dissapears in some games.

But I'll give Faulk more time and watch more. At first blush I get the idea of betting on him later in the first round based on his raw upside but top 10 mystifies me right now.

Fortunately, as things stand now, I don't think we have to worry much about us taking him as he seems to be more of a 3-4 DE type. I would bet he is a Viking

I liked Bailey a lot and again someone who could be drafted if we traded down. If picked a good WR should be available

The lukewarm comps I keep seeing to Reese is he's a better version of Jalon Walker more so than Parsons. I'd take that, too. I want pass rush more so than the next Phillip Daniels.

I'm not a film buff like you or even JoeA_NFL, but Faulk feels a lot like Shemar Stewart last year--measurables and talent without actual production. It screams massive risk.

As for the trade back discussion--it really depends on the situation. If we pick 5th and Reese, Tate, and Downs are all gone--and we can add a 1st next year? Or add a 2nd plus, and get David Bailey? I don't think we can say we should do one or the other as a hard-and-fast rule.

To maximize Arvell, it would be as an EDGE in a 3-4 or 3-3-5 scheme. Our personnel may end up fitting it better anyway but that's a conversation for another day.

How much better is Arvell than Bailey and, heck, is he better for our needs?

He will be a bit of a project. He doesnt really have a mix of developed pass rush skills. But he is a wall in the run game. And if you can develop his pass rushing skills he could be really special imo.

If Quinn could figure out what to do with Parsons, you'd figure he can have a good time with the first dude that i can think of since that draft who is compared to death to Parsons deserved or not.

AI Overview

with some evaluators even calling him the closest thing to Parsons since Parsons himself, making him a strong contender to be a #1 overall pick

Yeah if they got a 2027 first, I likely be in favor of it. But if its the typical one for this team where you add a 2nd, I dont know.

The trade backs were fun in the moment but all aged horribly. Not just the first round trade backs but others too.

Cerrato’s 3 2nd round picks after the tradeback. Shanny’s was the best one but still I’d take JJ Watt over Kerrigan. The trade with Dallss. Seattle. The Rivera one with the Saints. Peters with the Eagles. All yuck.

I won't disagree with the fact that they didn't work out, but...

- There's no guarantee the alternative would have worked out either

- What they did with the picks (poor drafting) doesn't invalidate the process... it was just bad player evaluation

As to Faulk. He plays so upright and doesn't have a quick first step. He bull rushes from what I saw and overpowers guys. That can work in college but in the pros? And heck 2 sacks and a 10% pass rush win indicaes he doesn't win a hell of a lot even college. He had a better year the season before.
