Yeah that's somewhat a point I made on the defense thread, on first glance WR feels safer than edge. Also feels like you can trade down if you have a suitor, the depth at WR looks good -- Concepcion, Boston, Brazzell. Draftniks are in love with Makai Lemon but I can see him dropping maybe to the 20s because of his size and being a pure slot WR.

Especially if they trade down and get a 2nd, wonder if they'd consider Downs assuming he's still there around 10-12 or go CB -- McCoy, Delane, Cisse. And then shop WR or edge, more likely WR in the 2nd. 2nd at WR maybe Boston is still there. Chris Bell.
 
Josh Taylor, a dude i follow on X, has some good takes about the draft from the perspective of this team. He makes the same point here that I did which is WR feels safer than DE, can we afford to miss?

It's still early but if I am a betting persoon right I'd guess Tyson or Tate. And also they won't trade down because I doubt there will be teams wanting to move up. Again early but that's my gut today.


Round: 1, Pick: 7 – Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State​

Daniels needs a true playmaker outside of McLaurin, and somebody who can take the torch for the future. Jordyn Tyson is my WR1 today and a true playmaker who can become any quarterback’s best friend. He’s explosive and twitchy in his route and displays excellent body control and athletic ability.

Tyson is 6-2, 200 pounds, and has inside-outside versatility. He’s not just a great route runner with excellent hands, but he’s also a real factor as a run blocker on the outside.

Of course, defense will be a top option with this pick, but pass rushers can be too much of a hit or miss in the first round, and Adam Peters can’t afford to miss. Getting a day one impact player for Daniels is just as big a need as defense.

Two months ago I would have sworn Edge/DE would be the safer pick for us in the top 10. Now I understand why it is possible WR could be, I find myself leaning to Tyson right now.

It is amazing but we really could have Downs fall to us...That will be a big decision as I am sure there will be some serious offers. This feels like the Kyle Hamilton whiff on our part. He is a must take especially if you are selecting out of the top 5

Safeties as you know rarely go high. I haven't watched Downs yet. i hate the description of him which is by some that his thing isn't the passing game -- he's a downhill beast against the run. Don't get me wrong I'd love a Jeremy Chinn on steroids but those guys usually don't go high.

I see PFF has a high grade for him in coverage so that's a good sign. So maybe some mischaraterize him? But yeah if i am going safety early I want a ball hawk who is a stud in coverage versus a stud against the run.

But I'll watch him and make my mind up for myself.

I have not watched a ton of him but what appears to be his Achilles if you can call it that is taking some unnecessary chances. My guess is he is so confident in his great processing ability, anticipation and instincts that he occasionally misses. He is the stud of this draft. getting him at 7 or 8 would do wonders for DQ and the new DC (bye Whitt) even though he is a safety and our biggest needs are Edge/LB and WR

To your earlier point, I think the two major reasons that EDGEs bust are a bet on traits vs production (ex Tyree Wilson) and knee injuries (Chase Young). I think Bailey is not a risk for the former and, if he plays more as a 3-4 OLB in a 3-3-5 or a 3-4, does the injury risk lessen because he is slightly less likely to get his knee twisted in a pile?

That being said, as much as it pains me because I would love a stud EDGE, as it stands, for now, I too am probably in the camp of WR. On Lemon, with the great success Egbuka and JSN have had, does that help him and does he go mid teens? The floor would seem to be very high on him and I love the fit for Jayden as a safety blanket

Mock drafts are gonna be all over the place, but I'd have a hard time believing they'd draft him that high. Tyson is a great player, no doubt, but as a WR profile, he's not risen to the level of being a top 5 pick IMO.

Exactly mocks this early tend to be wild. After the SB is when i start taking them a little seriously but more so after the combine.
 
I hate to say it but he’d have to test as such a freak for me to be interested in a tweener that high. I’m sure he’s a stud but 6’4” 240-ish is very tweener territory. I haven’t watched yet but at that size his bend needs to be absurd and his hand usage needs to be pretty developed, to go along with freakish athleticism, for me to really bite with a top-5 pick. He needs to be a stud pass rusher, you can’t be relying on the off ball skillset to salvage him if you’re wrong about his ability as a rusher in the NFL, because that is horrible value that high. Measurables matter at EDGE more than almost any other position (and this is only tangentially related but we never got real measurables for Chase Young, remember, so we never got confirmation he was actually a “freak” like it was assumed)

Jordyn Tyson would be a big addition. Whatever his 40 speed is, is fine, his best attribute is his quick acceleration after making a move. He makes a cut and doesn't really lose speed, or gets it back fast. I saw one route where the CB called it, broke early, and still couldn't get there because Tyson's burst out of the break was fast enough. He's got a variety of releases off the line, it looks like he can win against Man coverage.

I'm down on Makai Lemon. He could be a really good 2nd round pick, but being mocked in the mid-1st is just too rich. He has a lot of positive attributes but somehow can't separate as well as you would think against Man. Given that plus his size and meh. He'd be an improvement over Deebo though.

I haven't watched much Tate yet.

EDGE

Reese is really intriguing. He's explosive, fluid, has change of direction, he could be a dynamite Edge. He's got hustle and closes ground when a QB starts scrambling. He doesn't stay blocked.

Bain however, I'm just not seeing it. I'm not sure how anyone else sees it either. He's going to test awfully at the Combine. He's not athletic or explosive. There's no twitch and his change of direction and ability to chase is basically non-existent. What he's got going for him is a wide frame with good strength and leverage...when he can set that up. But his feet aren't quick enough when he can't. Like sometimes a TE gets to him that he doesn't expect...and stones him, and he struggles to win after getting stoned...by a TE. For someone that's a full time EDGE player, why doesn't he get sacks? I really question those pass rush win-rate statistics. I think he compares a bit to Myles Murphy, the 1st round Edge bust the Bengals took a few years back. Bain is stronger and looks much better against the run though. So maybe Clellin Ferrell as a prospect?

If Reese or Tyson are there, we draft them. If not, then trading down looks tempting. (Although I might add Tate to that list as I start watching him) I haven't watched Caleb Downs yet, but drafting a safety in the first round is tough. They really have to check a lot of boxes. If he can't cover a TE in Man, then I'm out. Ideally he'd also be highly instinctual to react against underneath routes by WR's trying to isolate against LB's in zone. If he's got both of those things, then he's got potential to be a high quality NFL safety that you can move around and stress a QB's reads post-snap.

I'm still watching him, but he's really quick twitch. He does a good job quickly resetting his feet to initiate with leverage faster than the blocker can. If you also want someone that can react to Hurts/Dart moving around the pocket and scrambling, then Reese is your guy. He combats that well.

He's not someone you draft to be a Frankie Luvu. You draft him to be at max 3 yards off the LoS and you rotate him all around. I'm not just talking about stunts, he's lined up off the Guards shoulder and won for a quick pressure. He's done some nice stuff where he actually engages the OT with a hard punch then backs off and mirrors the RB leaking out on a route. Reese should be a defensive coordinators dream.
 
I've not wanted to fall for Makai Lemon. He's not the biggest dude, or have the biggest catch radius and he's a slot WR. But the more I watch him, the more I fall hard for him as a prospect.

He's a total baller, catches everything in his catch radius, such quick feet, such a quick seperator --better YAC guy than either Tyson or Tate. He's in that St. Brown, Smith-Njigba mode as to his style.

I really like all three, Tyson, Tate, Lemon -- but on first glance Lemon might be the highest floor WR of the three. I think I like Lemon over Tyson. Not sure about him versus Tate yet. I know most draftniks have it Tyson, Tate, Lemon. I am not sure I agree but I do dig all three of those Wrs for different reasons

 
And SIP and I disagree on Lemon (that's totally fine).

I'll say one thing I really like about him is he's got sure hands where he doesn't feel the need to completely change his body position to ensure the catch. Just snatch it away from his body and go. That's a big part of his YAC ability.
