The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

For the trade down crowd, I don’t really think there will be big trade down offers to move down. The early read from the draft experts is the QBs who were expected to be in this draft have underwhelmed and many like Dante Moore will go back to school and make $3M instead of declaring this year. Mendoza and maybe one other QB go top 5 and there isn’t a truly elite receiving talent in this draft either.

So who does a team trade a haul for? Faulk? Downs? Woods? Nah

Maybe Bailey if some team sees him as a future high end EDGE1. If we do as well, the offer would have to blow my socks off and would have to be north of 2 1sts
 
The only way we get a good trade down is if Ty Simpson wows, or some dipshit falls in love with someone like Lanorris Sellers. I'm not holding my breath, but stranger things have happened.

Maybe it’s better to win 3 than 5, but suppose you could choose:

(a) Win the last three games, sweeping the Eagles and beating Dallas on Christmas, end the season on the high note of knowing you can beat anybody. Finish 6-11, get the 8th pick in the first round.

(b) Lose out completely, finish 3-14 with no signs of life, lose to the Cowboys on Christmas. Pick 2nd in the first round.

Maybe there is no realistic hope of (a) so we take (b) as consolation.
 
Yeah I’d rather pick 2nd in that situation. We probably turn over more than half the roster again and I think this year proved that there’s really no such thing as momentum carrying over from season to season. Whole culture needs a touch-up again anyways when adding new staff and player personnel this offseason, I don’t really care if all the soon-to-be ex-Commanders and unemployed defensive staff get to enjoy any moral victories or not to end 2025. They can get that by playing hard and putting that effort on tape for the future.

Luckily it’s not up to me and what will happen, will happen. They certainly won’t be trying to lose and that’s as it should be.

I agree with Conn to some extent. The number 2 pick could become one true stud players or turned into restoring our full complement of 2026 picks while keeping a top 10 selection.

On the other hand we still end out with a good selection at 8 could knock Dallas out of a wild card slot and knock Philly out of home field advantage or forcing them to play an extra playoff game. Winning those final two could also give Washington a better look for potential FA's. Right now if I were a FA Washington would not be high on my wish list for where to sign.

I disagree. Jayden is still attractive as a QB if I am a receiver or TE. Quinn is still a well-respected coach. It's not like we don't have anyone good and we need to start from scratch, like we did prior to 2024. We had no problem signing some good players that offseason in Luvu and Armstrong primarily. You don't see players whining in the media. Jon Allen isn't up there saying he's sick of this shit. Payne is punching opposing players, instead of teammates, so that's progress.

I'm going to say it. The culture is still damned good!

I respect this and get where you are coming from. However if Jayden, maybe that Terry dude and some of the other insured players return to the lineup and we lose out with only 3 wins, it is not a good look for DQ or Washington in the eyes of FA compared to so many other teams with higher promise. Now if the insured players don't return and we lose out, I buy into your take more.

The Bears had no problem attracting free agents, and Caleb sucks. Cardinals signed one of the bigger free agents in Josh Sweat. Michael Pittman willingly resigned in Indianapolis, even though his QBs were utter garbage. Players lined up for New England and Maye was very questionable coming off his 2024 campaign. Giants had a number of marquee free agents, and they're a perennial dumpster fire.

Hopefully you are correct because regardless of how this season ends, we need a solid draft and FA take with high talent players that fit well into the schemes to be used. No more small or slow players please!

I do think Peters did a poor job in FA this year. The Tunsil trade was great, and I would like to resign Deebo at a reasonable cost, but his signings were largely questionable. In retrospect, relying on Noah Brown as your #2 was foolish. None of his signings this year worked out, that I can think of. It's a mistake I don't think he'll repeat. He needs to sign Alec Pierce, even if he overpays. He alone will open up so much of the offense.

To your point, the worse we finish this year, the bigger the fire is under both DQ’s and AP’s asses next year. Zero chance of the “hey look we got 3 more wins so let’s blame the injuries” excuse.

It would force AP to swing big in FA with multiyear deals
 
Need to lose out. Can then leverage our high draft picks and trade back and stack. And for the love of God be aggressive in free agency. Gonna be in year 3 of Jayden’s rookie deal. I still believe we can make a quick turn around and be a playoff team again next season and then a contender by year 4.

Im not out on AP by any means but there are a lot of things im concerned about and one of them is not just the free agents he brought in but the ones he let walk.

It was obvious from day one our staff thought forbes was useless and they dumped him midway through the first season like he was a failed udfa experiment but the rams brought him in and nurtured him and now hes playing much better, he's no all pro but he's a starting corner on a top defense which is a far cry from what he was doing here.
Thats not an indictment of forbes thats an indictment of our coaches and our talent evaluators, its easy to miss talent going from college to pros but when that guy is on your roster and you dont see it thats pretty damning in my opinion.

St juste is also playing much better for the chargers than he did with us.

The complete collapse this year while watching players who we all thought were grocery baggers play well elsewhere has me very concerned with the makeup of our current front office from scouting to coaches.

He didn't let anyone walk that would help us win right now. Forbes is terrible, still. He sucks. He is on a much better defense that can cover that up, but he's still terrible. BSJ is averaging about 20 snaps a game. He's their 4th CB? Not missed.

Dyami Brown has 19 catches on the season; 11 of those came in the 1st to games. The last two weeks, he has 2 targets, 0 receptions, combined. Zaccheus is less productive than Samuel. You could make a case for Chinn, but Harris has been hurt so kinda hard to make any kind of comparison there.

It's so hard to evaluate this season (other than Whitt) because we been so eviscerated by injuries.

Theres no doubt that between the injuries and whitt its very difficult to make an accurate assessment of much of anything.

Forbes though according to the pff and other metrics has been playing very well over the last 6 weeks or so.

But yes that could be a bit of an illusion due to the fact that he's on a much better defense but part of that is our fault, our coaches and staff have at least some culpability in that.
 
Would be cool if we could hide bad players. Unfortunately the rest of the players are also bad so it’s pick your poison

I worry about Bain's short arms in the prose. Bailey would be an awesome get--I love his pass rush ability. Allows Luvu to play off ball more, which I think he did more last year. Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Reese will go to the Titans right now, it looks like. I think he's 1-1. We need a couple of underclassmen at QB to come out. I think that's our only way to trade down, unless someone really wants a top OT.
