The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

What a depressing thought after going to the NFC championship game last season. Unfortunately I think you are exactly right, with the injuries this just might be the worst team in the league. I just hope we go all in and get aggressive in FA and hit on our picks
 
Thoughts:

Peters trades down in the 1st recouping a later 1st and 2nd round pick. He trades down in the 3rd and acquiring a later 3rd and a 4th rounder. Trades down again in the 5th and acquires a later 5th and 6th rounder. We then would have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 7th round picks. Both sides of the ball on O and D need to be fixed but the D needs a lot of work and what was nickeled and dimed last year in FA didn't work. We have no WR talent outside of McClaurin and his debacle of a holdout sure doesn't look good on him. RB has ?s too along with a legit backup QB. I understand injuries hurt a team but player depth is important and building this team up with youth is of the utmost importance.

Get rid of dead weight contracts such as that of Payne and Lattimore. Don't resign the aged vets that helped in first season.

This team needs a youth infusion in the worst way. Peters needs to do what we hired him to do and that's to find not good but great talent in the draft.

Joe Whitt must go along with other D position coaches and I have to question some of the position coaches on the O too. I know our game planning is built around Daniels but we it can and should be able to be modified too in situations like this year with Daniels hurt.
 
If we were not going to win the Superbowl this year, I am open to figuring out a few good players to fill in for next years. Watching the game now, Interested in Burks
 
Burks IMO was a casualty of a dysfunctional organization in Tennessee.

When it comes to the draft I want to see Washington really accentuate guys who are not only uber competitive but have a bit of a nasty streak about them.

McCaffrey, Sinnott and Coleman to me look like players that regardless of their physical skills coming out are just not hard enough around the edges to make it as regular starting players in the NFL.

As they used to say a few years ago - we need a few more DAWGS out there. Preferably junkyard dawgs.

Very intrigued by Burks, could be a great addition
 
I’d be fine with burks as a Noah brown replacement. At least in roster spot, maybe not depth chart. The problem is he’s similar in that he’d likely be injured often like Noah brown.

Is that possible? Injured?
 
I don’t think we can make the same blanket characterization about Burks at 24/25 as you can about the 30 year old Noah Brown that is seemingly injured every season for years on end.

That’s just not fair at this point.

Besides there is a reason Burks was a first round prospect (by Peters and SF as well) and Brown was a #7 in Dallas way back in 2018.
 
Sure, but draft position isn’t what indicates injury history. Obviously circumstances play a part, but Burks had one good season with 444 yards. Rest are 221, 34, and right now 72. Noah browns best at 567, he’s also got 453, 555 and some other burks like seasons. Burks played 11 games his rookie season, 11 his second, then 5. Browns got 14, 8, 16, 10, 11, 2. My point is the post I made. I’d take Burks over brown at least in roster spot, but not depth chart. Meaning, I wouldn’t want to rely on him in a starting role. Similar to what we were all saying about Noah brown.

For the trade down crowd, when has trading down worked for us? Each time we’ve traded down in the 1st round, we’ve been burned. Devin Thomas/Malcolm Kelly/Fred Davis year, Kerrigan for Watt, Olave for Jahan, etc.

It sounds great in theory but you usually want to stay where you are to grab the stud.

If we end up with say the #3 pick and we get offered a 3rd to move down one pick to a QB needy team, sure.

However, let’s get our All Pro upside guy early whoever that is
 
If we could get a 2nd round pick with a trade down I would be totally fine with that. We could really use a 2nd round pick this year. If not, then if we're top 5 then we should be able to get a blue chipper.....I don't care if its offense or defense, just give us a blue chip, game changing dude that other teams have to scheme around

Realistically, we find another win or two elsewhere. I don’t see us picking before the Titans or Jets. I could see the Saints, the preseason pick for worst team in the NFL, passing us.

I get it in theory but look what AP did with our 3 2nds in 2024.

I mostly feel like this, but I think it’s different if someone is moving up for a QB. We might wind up with two 1sts and a 2nd to move back just a little and stay in the top 10 or 11.

I will say though, that I think Trey Hendrickson, Reuben Bain, a few choice FA’s, with a new DC, might totally fix this defense.
 
I've becoming sour on trading down based on our history. My only thing is it feels like on first blush there are like 5 guys or so that fit our needs that are all around the same ability. but its early and i could of course be wrong.

For example if i am sold that Tyson is the next Nabers and is a half a peg better than Tate and Lemon, take Tyson. Am not sure he is but I just started watching and there is a long way to go.

Our not trading down has not always worked well either...Forbes, Davis, Young. It is dependent on the offer as well as who is available and if the guy making the final selection has a clue

Yeah and i think its very dependant on who is on the board. Knowing that Kyle Hamilton is falling to your pick who was an elite talent and shrugging that off and trading down is a mistake.

I am just on an early look feel that we got some Ryan Kerrigans and Devone Smith level players at WR and Edge in the top 10. Very good players potentially but don't scream elite. Wondering if they are JJ Watts or Jamar Chase. But again, i am not planting my flag on that point. It's too early.

Bain for example is a fun watch, but he only has 2 sacks, and short arms. Woods is a fun watch -- but he feels on early watches more Mason Graham than Jalen Carter. Tyson is a jitterbug all over the field, with great hands -- but he doesn't look to me like Nabers as for YAC or insanely fast.
