The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

For me I see Lemon as like a Jakobi Myers level WR. Meyers is a goo WR. Solid like #3 WR in my eyes that can step in to be a #2 at times. But I just wouldnt draft a WR at that level in 1st round at all. I think others view Lemon as a Desean Jackson type of skill level and he is not cloae to that. That and USC WR tend to be divas and he lioks the part. That being said I would only be happy with Lemon if we had a 2nd round pick and took a flyer there on him. Im far from a scout. Just an old dummy but this dummy would absolutely hate to hear us say his name on draft day. Besides Lemon I can get on board with just about anyone. I must be watching the wrong tapes too cause I constantly see a guy that gets no separation.

Don't see any parallels to Desean Jackson style. Tate not a great comp to Desean either but a better comp IMO than Lemon. Tate has Desean's ball tracking skills for the deep ball. But otherwise they are different.

Lemon is a slot possession WR who is feisty at heck at the catch point and with the ball in his hands. To use a Commanders comp player -- like a very rich man's Jamison Crowder in his prime.

Love to Tennessee makes too much sense. I think that’s where he’s going.

Going with draft buzz for whatever its worth but it overlaps with some of the bigger draftnik names but will see.

QB -- first. And the 2-3rd pick some order of Reese and Bailey. Love 4th, The Giants with Styles -- but maybe Tate.

Browns try to trade down or take the Georgia tackle -- darkhorse would be Tate.

Just for the sake of conversation;

How good is Love and how bad do you want him? Would you trade next years first to NYJ to grab him?

Love is excellent, and I want him bad.

Not that bad.
What’s the limit? How far would you go? Trade away this year’s 3rd to move up a few spots? I wouldn’t ?

I think Love is a major difference maker. But I don’t think I’d give up anything to move up to get him. It’s too detrimental to our future.

If he’s there at 7 I’m sprinting to the podium. Otherwise… it’s a whatever happens, happens deal.

I'd put the odds of Styles a bit higher but overall agree on most of this based on where i think they land

I think I'd go
40% chance Tate
30% chance Downs
10% Styles (only because I don't think he makes it to 7 but there is a shot he does)
10% Bain
10% Love -- like Styles doubt he's there but there is a remote shot

I think the only OL in the discussion at 7 for pure BPA is Ioane and potentially Mauigoa.

I do t want IOL at 7, but I do wonder if Ioane could play center.

A 3rd would get us up to 4 on the points chart, and I think a 3rd for Love is a no brainer. I also think Tennessee isn’t trading out of that spot and we’d have to go to 3 and we do t have that ammo.

Although I disagree on the move I do appreciate when people put their money up. If he ends up being a league mvp candidate and has a long career you will look golden.

I think the universe is going to make it so we have to take Downs, just because he's the player of this group I want the least.

I am REALLY hoping somebody 2-5 decides they can't live without him. I just don't see it.

I think Love will be gone.

I think there is a greater chance somebody takes Tate than Downs.

I would personally love Love or Tate, but I think there's a good chance neither are there.

The players there will be the short armed DE and Downs.

And we'll take Downs.

And I'll want to jam a sledge hammer into Quinn's temple for not starting Hartman to guarantee the loss to the Eagles. Because unless Downs becomes Ed Reed, it just isn't a position I care to spend a top 10 pick on.

In fairness, RB is the same way, but I have a much better feeling Love will turn into an all-pro RB than Downs into an all-pro safety.

Looking at mocks recently I think AP will have a choice between one of Tate, Lemon and Love. One or two of those will be there, I think. If Love is there, I take him. JD5 so needs a legit RB. I really like Downs but the Giants more than likely will take him.

Reframing.

I think BIll is a legitimate running back. Love has the chance to be a superstar.

(Just a little tired of the Bill bashing.)

I'm not bashing Bill. You said Love=superstar and Bill=legitimate as I did. I agree with you. I am not bashing Bill at all. (y)

Who has bashed Bill? I keep seeing this and don’t see anyone bashing him.

Croskey-Merrit who is about to turn 25, I might feel differently if he was 21, is likely not going to evolve into a multi dimensional weapon. He's a good RB but one dimensional. He's not what the typical #1 back looks like skill wise. Good for a rotation, but not the dude you want to be your lead back. It was no accident that Ekeler to the surprise of some started as the lead back this past year even though he hasn't been a lead back for years -- but the dude can pass protect and catch.

This isn't the 80s and 90s or early 2000s anymore. If a back isn't a pass catching threat and or pass protector -- he's not a typical #1 unless he's really special like an Adrian Peterson.

Some might recall when Peterson was let go, and some thought it made no sense. Jay talked about this on a podcast once which is ideally you don't want a one dimensional running back for two reasons: 1. A multi dimensional back can be a great tool on screens, dump offs, wheel routes, etc. 2. You don't want to telegraph that the play is going to be a run.

Still, it was a surprising move considering Peterson had mostly worked all summer with the starters and was praised for his power runs and leadership. But the coaches often mentioned versatility. It has become even more important at this position, given the lack of proven talent and depth at tight end and wide receiver. Washington wants an element of surprise to boost its offense.

The team wants to use a lot of two-running-back sets and wants the backs to be multithreats. It drafted Antonio Gibson in the third round; he had played mostly wide receiver at Memphis, but Washington will use him as a running back who can align all over in the passing game. The team signed veteran Peyton Barber and has been pleased with how he can contribute as both a runner and pass-catcher.
