The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Even if you thought he was going to run a 4.46, the fact that he ran a 4.33 is a pretty big difference. I don't think I realized how fast Washington was (like I said I was expecting a 4.53 and that may be I was under informed), but I think that 4.33 was shocking.

I've not kept notes and kept track of who said what, but I've heard multiple times Washington was going to have a big combine. Ok, 4'4s ends up 4'3s. cool, but it didn't feel to me like a mega surprise. I was only half paying attention but I believe they even talked about watch out for Washington on the NFL Network today at the outset of the combine.

As for Sadiq, he was supposed to be the star of the whole combine with Styles the runner up so I was expecting something really good.

I am still not in on Love. Just not enough surplus value. He would make about 9 million aav as the 7th pick, whereas the open market for a Gibbs is probably 17 million. A high end #2 receiver is worth 25 aav and a low end #1 WR is only 28 to 30. I would rather just pay the premium for Travis Etienne, give him 14 or 15 million a year and draft tate rather than pay Alec Pierce 24 million (a high end 2) and draft Love. We come out 10 million per year etter in taht second scenario.

I get this point albiet I don't fully agree with it. But the logic is good.

It doesn't bother me that he wasn't the best receiver on his team, either. I like him.

But Love is a better player. And I am BIG time of the opinion that an RB helps us more than a WR.

I am also big time of the opinion that I don't like being in the position where we need both a RB and a WR and a TE.

If we somehow signed a high end FA RB, I'd be mildly disappointed because it would likely mean no Love - but if we wound up with Tate I don't view it as consolation. I just think that highly of Love.

I get this point. I agree that Love is the better player. I do think the premium value of some positions do deserve to be graded on a curve.

It's a balance IMO. For example if I have Tate graded a half of peg behind Love, I'd go Tate. If I have Tate a full peg behind Love, I'd go Love.

I've been fascinated for months to see what some of these WRs run, especially Tate. And I've said to death, after the combine, I'll land at a harder position.

Tate everything being equal is my fav WR to watch but his gliding running style makes its really hard for me to guess his speed. He gets by guys so effortlessly so am big time curious how much speed is part of that?

Ok, i admit i've gotten wrapped up in the shiny object, I am really liking Love at 7.
Yesssss GIF

to be fair, i've never been against it, i've always said no matter what, get the player that has the best chances of being 'ELITE', but man this dude is flashing even more. Him or Styles are seriously showing me something (or at least reinforcing it)

If they idea is draft a guarantee pro bowl player, he'd be the guy in the top 10 IMO. I am open to a few other players in that spot. But Love is definitely in the mix for me.

I'd add as a bonus, this team doesn't major in stars. And for a team desperate to get that next generation interested in this team again -- Jayden goes a long way but imagine him and Love?

I think Love, with Daniels, is an instant pro bowl caliber player and likely future all pro. He would be our second star on offense, and make Jayden's life a lot easier.

While I understand this perspective, I think it's a min/max approach that we aren't to yet. We don't even spend the cap money we have.

Get the best player. In a year or two... I'll probably be right there with you.

This, exactly. Who cares about AAV value when we aren't even going to get close to spending to the cap. Also, I don't think the way Love plays, that it's fair to say that he plays a non-premium position. He is an elite RB, and also, could also easily catch 70 balls. That changes the whole offense. And, as often as he will be touching the ball, I would value him over almost any linebacker or safety.

I think Mike Washington Jr. 40 time is the biggest surprise of the combine for me so far. I listen to Daft on Draft and there were saying 4.53 or so for him. 4.33 I think really raises his stock. He weighed in at 223. Has good power. He is a second rounder for me now.

Not me.

I think that you are underratimg Terry. I still think that it's more of us never targeting him enough than it is him but I do love Love so I would be happy with the pick if it's him

I liked how he got emotional about doing it, some did expect him to show well in the combine among the people I followed, late bloomer as far as a producer in college.

That almost seems like an Olympic track star going for Gold. You can tell that he dedicated himself to that 40 time and everything aligned in that moment. I'm happy for him

uuuuuugggghhhhh I'm coming around on Love.

My stance on Love is if you pick him, you better be damn right. Not kinda right, a bit right, but damn right.

I will say, my concerns about him being the "damn right" option are somewhat assuaged when he shows the burst he does.

Still don't know who the hell JD throws to besides Terry tho.

Well, I think that’s the way it is for all first round top ten talents. If you draft them you better be right. Damn right. I don’t see why Love is different than Tate there. If you’re wrong on either you will lose your job as a GM.

If you take Styles or Downs and they bust and Love and Tate pop… you’re fired.

We also have FA and I anticipate a major push for some weapons at receiver.

There is no way this front office and staff will come into the season without another legit WR. They will get dragged by everyone if they do. That's not a major concern for me. I don't know who it will be but you can tell that a major mindset for them is helping Jayden succeed in every way after last season. The future of the Franchise mainly depends on that sole issue and it seems like they recognize that they failed in that regard last season in every way.

I do think there is a difference. If you think you are getting a Gibbs or McCaffrey but get a Travis Etienne it was a bad use of a top 10 pick. By contrast if you think you are getting a Terry McLaurin but instead get a Courtland Sutton you got still value in line closer to the pick value.

I don’t think it makes a difference here. A bust is a bust. I know, AAV and min max and all of that.

I don’t care about any of that right now with this team. Draft a good football player. That’s it.
