A couple of thoughts about yesterday:

The D held up for a half, but when the dam burst it wasn't a crack but a gusher. We are fundamentally lacking in the trenches. Can't pressure the QB and are becoming soft against the run not just around the edge but right up the gut where Payne and Kinlaw and Newton and Goldman still play. The D Line is suffering from injuries at end, but they are also suffering from choices. After getting wrecked by the run game in 2025, the braintrust decided they needed more beef. It hasn't worked.

It's hard to judge Witt's playcalling yesterday because Maholmes had thirty seconds to throw the damn ball. That said, the defense held up forcing Mahomes to hold the ball a lot so the coverage was probably initially good for most of the game.

Coleman's a tackle not a guard. He just performs better outside. I'm beginning to wonder if they made a mistake in drafting Connerly. Tunsil at left and Coleman at right probably would have been good and that would have freed us up to get a pass rusher. Still, it's a good thing to have three tackles you can trust.

I expected to lose yesterday. I thought I might be turning off the game after the first quarter and wondered if Maholmes would score 100 points. We played well enough to keep me tuned in all the way to the fourth quarter.

Blown opportunities. Blown opportunities. We never took advantage of the excellent kickoff returns. We failed to take advantage of the turnovers. You can't do that against a team like the Chiefs. Entering the half tied was fool's gold.

This team made a mistake by cutting the doink and not giving Siebert a second chance. Matt Gay has been inconsistent and now he's hurt.

The refs kept calling our receivers out when they were in. They kept marking us short. Not the reason we lost, but didn't help. I noted at least three times the upstairs officials had to overrule the refs on the field and another time they got it right because we threw the challenge flag. We weren't reffed in this game, but the refs sure short changed us a lot.

I like investing in the line as much as anyone and more than most, but when you make a trade like we did with Tunsil and had the year we had last year, I would have gone a different route in the draft.

I think a couple of moves delayed the rebuild unnecessarily. If I had to guess on strategy, they gambled on JD being further along and the JD/Kliff connection being dominant again. So that leads you to believe you need to heavily weigh towards the line to protect JD. For what I have seen, both player and OC regressed unfortunately.

We have invested a lot in both lines, it just hasn’t worked out.

On the offensive line this year, we drafted Conerly in the first round, and we traded multiple draft picks for Tunsil. This after drafting Coleman in the third and signing Allegretti and Biadasz last year. I really had high hopes for this group, and at times they have shown promise, but they haven’t been great overall. Conerly has been especially disappointing, which is really puzzling after all the talk that he was Kliff’s favorite.

On the defensive line we drafted Newton high in the second round last year. We gave Kinlaw a big contract this year after giving Armstrong a big contract last year. Payne is our highest paid player after Terry. We have also brought in multiple other guys like Wise, Jean-Baptiste, Martin, etc. This group has also been disappointing, but they’ve had a lot of injuries.

Still really love the potential of this offense if they’re ever fully healthy together.

The defense needs to move on from everyone not named Amos, Kinlaw, Armstrong, Sainristil, and Newton.

We saw for merely a glimpse of what can happen when a bad defense can turn the ball over, ie: Chicago. Unfortunately, when you turn it to zero points on the road in KC, you lose and lose bad.

I can both credit the D for holding up for a half and then also cry real tears about the inevitable second half performance.

The Bobby Wagner experience needs to be over.

Kliff has got to figure out better ways to run the ball with actual running backs.

Mariota was very meh, minus a few cagey veteran throws. He appeared to keep when he should have handed it off a few times. Brain fart on fourth down with Ertz wide open in front of him.

Deebo’s bobble. Ugh.

Just facing facts, this year simply isn’t meant to be. Every bounce is a bad bounce for us and a great bounce for our opponent most every week. Got screwed on another pivotal call. The season being over before the clocks turn back is the shit I thought we had grown out of.

I watched until the bitter end, but after failing to get points off a second TO I lost hope and I too had no doubt we would lose. You cannot fail to capitalize on the rare mistakes of a team like KC and win.

McCaffrey has shown he's good when given the opportunity. Terry with a couple of spectacular catches that fooled the refs shows why he got a big contract. Hopefully it's a trend.
Too bad we didn't draft Simmons instead of Conerly, even if Simmons is injured at the moment. Still not as bad as Ron taking Forbes over Christian Gonzalez or Jamin Davis over Christian Darrisaw....
I've been really bullish on Jaylin Lane, but he had a bad game last night. And as much as we all love Wagner, he was awful last night - just not quick enough anymore.
Quan Martin looked like a pro bowler in the first half, and Reaves had a decent game.

The season being over before the clocks turn back is the shit I thought we had grown out of.

Yeah, I had such high hopes during OTAs. I was already feeling doubt creep in during the preseason.

The truth is, for all the complaints about the defense, this game was lost by the offense. You aren’t going to shutdown the Chiefs for 60 minutes. They showed in the 2nd half that even if you can slow them in the first half, they will get it moving after halftime. But the offense gave the defense very little support. That hasn’t been the case very often this year, but it was last night. Even 10 points out of those first three drives, the game is never out of reach. Instead, it was 3 empty trips into KC territory. Those were the opportunities to get some control in the game.

I keep reminding myself that Lane is the definition of the diamond in the raw. Bad college QBing, coaching, etc. He's all raw potential... sort of like McCaffrey if you think about it. The question is "Will it click for him?" because if it does he should be a weapon.

The other thing is, our QBs (both Daniels and Mariotta) seem reluctant to target Luke or Lane more than once or twice a game. I imagine wide receivers need reps, too, to get into a rhythm and to get better. If you only get one pass a game that ball probably carries a lot of extra pressure on it. That said, it was nice to see Sinnott with a catch.

True with regard to defense, but in the last 10 drafts, we have only drafted TWO offensive lineman in round 1 or 2 (Conerly and Cosmi). I understand that there are trades and FA, but I would absolutely NOT say that we've heavily invested in the Oline.

I agree with your speculation about why they did what they did. I honestly can't fault them for that logic.

In retrospect, we probably weren’t the right team to pick Conerly. The reason he was seen as a late first in mocks was because he was seen as a raw young player who needed both skill and physical development. That didn’t really match with our timeline. I’d be a bit surprised if he is a true bust. I think he is going to have a career trajectory like Anton Harrison who has become a top half of the league starting RT

It did with Tunsil and we can probably recoup the 5th we gave up for Deebo if we want to move him at the deadline.

That being said, we generally need to refill our draft ammo and add a few more picks if we can by moving Miller, Deebo, Payne and others.

Have to start playing all the young guys (Magee, Medrano, Sinnott) instead of putting out dudes with cement in their shoes. Wagner is a MAJOR liability if it is not a run up the middle. Perfect time to get these guys some experience and see what they have (or what they don't have).

I think we need to see some if Magee can wear the green dot. The FA class is loaded with off ball linebackers. We need to have a good understanding of Magee and Medrano so we have a sense of whether we need to go sign a Milano, Quincy Williams, Kaden Elliss, Leo Chenal, Nakobe Dean, Nate Landman, Micah McFadden, etc
