Tried burning to CD, but the file is 753 mb, and the CD only holds 702 mb![]()
Back on the Ubuntu subject, I noticed on that download site, it tells you that you need to first download InfraRecorder before you put Ubuntu on your CD. Is that really necessary, to download that software. Can't you just use WMP burner or just copy and paste, or save it on the CD ?
I'm hesitant, because the link to download InfraRecorder on this site, looks kind of questionable, as if it's going to re-direct you to something malicious.
http://infrarecorder.org/
Also, I checked CNET, and InfraRecorder has a lot of very bad reviews. I think I will just burn Ubuntu to CD the traditional way

the download is an ISO file I believe, which is basically a flat image of a cd. you need a program designed to open up iso files and burn them to a CD without losing/changing data. that ability isn't native to windows xp.
you can use many programs to do it with, I would use the one the instructions were written around. if you don't like that program check out ISO recorder, it's what I used to use.
For the download, try here: ubuntu
This allows you to download to a USB drive as well as a CD.
BTW, there are 800MB blank CDs available.
Go for the Desktop CD option. You will require a program to burn the ISO file onto a CD.
If you download it to a USB, to install it you'll have to fire up your desktop, then change the boot options in your BIOS (press F2 or whatever on start-up). Then, restart your computer and it will boot from whatever option you chose (match the change to whatever your USB drive would be). The 'default' would be C;, or hard drive. You need to change it to USB, then if/when installed. change the start-up option BACK to default.
