Tech/Computer advice from me

If you have a chance to see what the blue screen says, if it lists an error message/code, there might be something more to do than a restore. Could be a bad update, maybe a bad driver, maybe something else.

btw...anyone here actually forwarded one of those "report event to MS or Apple" error reports...and received a response?

They give bugcheck and error codes that tell you what is wrong.
They seem cryptic, but there's a method to the madness.

Terrible idea in my opinion.

didn't MS sell the source code to Russia or China a while back?

I'm pretty sure nobody in history has gotten a direct response. I'm pretty sure they just get them (when they do) to patch stuff later as needed.

IT Guys are the worst. Not respecting the blanket of revenue we sales people provide. Nerds.

I keep re-installing Firefox, in order to keep an older version that I prefer. I intentionally install an older version of Firefox, but then Firefox keeps automatically "upgrading" or installing the newest version, without my permission, without asking me, without me doing anything, or even seeing it happening.
But I don't want the newest version of Firefox. I don't like it. I want a specific older version, and I have the installation file for that version. Is there any way, or any setting, that will stop Firefox from automatically bumping me up to the newest version ?

1.At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options. 2.Click the Advanced panel. 3.Click the Update tab. The auto-update options are displayed.

Fear.....keep in mind that you will need to be doubly vigilant on security patches.

huge uptick in hacks of home routers/airports lately. rec you periodically check your config - including DNS settings. targets are account, admin passwords and credentials related to bank accounts, etc.

As promised... I have successfully deployed an Apple server and am now using it to manage apple machines on a windows network. Seems to be working pretty well. You can also manage iOS devices with pretty neat stuff.

If anyone has a need for instructions I have a word document with links to resources and 2 pages worth of steps to get the basics up and running. Just PM me.

Good luck to you sir. May nothing ever break. And may the amount of machines managed by that stay small for your sake.

it's about 3 mac books, 3 imacs, 15 ipads and 15 iphones.
not a whole lot.

just using it to control basic settings and work as a time machine backup location for a few of the machines.

Our student labs, who has the main joy of dealing with them, is about 45 machines. I quote: "I didn't hate macs, until I had to manage them."
