Tech/Computer advice from me

Try doing a factory reset by going through the menu and finding the setting. Also unplug and plug back in all the cords, a loose power cord (or even a bad cord) could cause that.

Other than that I'm out of ideas :(

Tried replacing the power cord, and making sure it was snug, but still have the problem.
On the Menu, couldn't seem to find Factory Reset, but I found Auto-Config. Is that the same thing ?

There's a reason why it was selling for $20, and I think you may have found that reason!

One thing you can do is take a photo/video of what the screen is doing. Otherwise, it's your word against theirs, and 9 times out of ten, they'll win.

If they have a 30-Day Warrantee and I bring it back within that time, do you really believe a pawn shop would argue with me, and force me to prove it, rather than honoring it ? Would it be like one of those fist-fights on that Pawn Stars reality show, and they have 2 huge bouncers carry me outside ?

i'm sure this has been around for a while, but its new to me.

got to play with a new malware today. it remaps the .exe file extension to to the scareware program. so any program you try to open launches the scarewar.

pretty clever...

yeah anything with an exe.

there's a microsoft fixit to remap it once you remove the virus. the trick was to open a command prompt as a 2nd user, use that to launch the tools to clean the virus.

it was smart but it wasn't that smart, couldn't handle a 2nd user launching the exe :)

I'm wanting to switch from yahoo email to another free email.
Yahoo is really sucking now. Everytime they "upgrade", it becomes completely worse.
I don't want gmail, because I don't want to associate with Google.
Any suggestions for any other quality free email accounts ?

I have friends who stick with their hotmail accounts because they love them. But you're associating with Microsoft, which may be just as bad. I don't think you can use email these days without "associating" with someone, so you may as well just stop using it or bite the bullet. :)

Thunderbird isn't an email provider though, just software to manage/read/etc email.

I've been using outlook.com for a few months now and I like it.

It's a microsoft product, so if you have reservations about them there's not much I can say to fix that :)

I unfortunately don't use many free mail providers. Gmail and Outlook.com are the two I have experience with. I've grown satisfied with gmail lately...

The one thing I liked about Yahoo email, and this may be a common thing will all email now - I don't know since I havnt really used any others - is the search function within your mailbox. With thousands of emails, it's so much easier to just search for a word in a particular email using the search function - even quicker than using folders.

Do the other free email accounts have that feature ?

Gmail uses the Google search engine to search your mail - its awesome. And yes, all email has a search function - the only one I've seen it not work well on is Lotus Notes. Hate that email with the fire of 1,000 burning suns.

Outlook.com has the same search functionality. It's actually made it so you don't have to organize your emails anymore into folders. I still do because I can't work with my inbox like that, i lose stuff.

working on one of these windows 8 surface tablets right now and it is more frustrating than anything else. windows 8 sucks, even for a tablet as far as im concerned. and the surface tablet is just meh.

i feel like im going to break it at any time touching the screen.
Ah that makes me sad :(

I'm anxiously awaiting a surface pro with a dock. Get rid of bulky laptops forever.

Reading a tech manual for a major upgrade to a big system, and the first thing in giant, bold letters:
"1) If you run any installations (setup.exe) on a Windows 2008 server, make sure you run them “As Administrator”. If you do not, they will NOT install properly. "

*sigh*

server 2008 is 5 years old and you still haven't figured out how to properly write an installer for it. 100$ says this upgrade is going to be miserable.

wait, what?

is it asking for a password? why is it making you pay?

the default uninstall password is: symantec

if you can't get it any other way you can probably use the windows installer cleanup utility. Microsoft pulled it from public because people were using it to uninstall stuff they shouldn't have and were screwing up their system - it's a powerful tool. If you need it I'll send it to you. Thing works wonders for programs that cause problems uninstalling.
