Pretty bad year, no? Nationwide is getting skewered, as they should be. Budweiser was pretty offensive for those of us who enjoy a good beer, not elephant piss.
Snickers was hysterical with machete and Steve Buscemi.
Budweiser got what they wanted. People are all up in arms talking and they're getting exposure and marketing. That's what they wanted. They've been buying up craft beer breweries left and right and they're always gonna be the big bad guy.
As a person who likes said "elephant piss" I totally get where Budweiser was coming from and think they nailed it. Budweiser and anyone who likes their beer (which based on sales is many many millions) have been listening to comments exactly like that for decades now. I think it's funny that the folks who dish that crap out have their panties in a bunch now that Budweiser FINALLY tongue in cheek smacked back.
The brewmaster from stone was the brewmaster from budweiser before being brought over. He still drinks it and defends them even though stone leads the fight against "fizzy yellow beer".
Nothing is going to change. Bud drinkers still drink bud and craft beer guys still drink craft beer.
Oh no worries, I don't really get offended at that stuff. Life's too short and I choose my battles a little more wisely than that. Having said that though, it does get a little lame basically being shamed into hiding my like for a beer and that commercial not only made me laugh out loud but it also hit the nail on the head in many ways. Also Budweiser hasn't bought a single micro brewery. Inbev has through Anheuser Busch, so I don't see it as hypocritical at all for all the gotchas I keep reading. It's brilliant marketing for Budweiser. Maybe not for Anheuser Busch/Inbev as a whole because of the hypocrisy angle, but for Budweiser it was top notch from my perspective.
Last but not least this was brilliant because they aren't speaking to micro brew drinkers who were never going to drink their "elephant piss" anyway. Basically the folks they offended weren't their customer base and never will be.
So, here's a take on the Nationwide commercial I found rather disheartening. A friend on FB reminded me how insensitive the commercial was.
He said, "Thank you Nationwide, on a day where I am spending time with family and friends enjoying the Super Bowl, you reminded me of a terrible tragedy in my life. Thanks for taking away the fun of the day to remind those of us who have lost a child."
The only 2 commercials I remembered were the doritos guy on the plane trying to avoid people sitting next to him and the snickers commercial. Granted we started watching the game late and skipped through some of the ones that looked lame.... Most
Here's the GoDaddy ad that got pulled because people were and apparently still are offended by it. It got me to laugh out loud. That's more than I can say about any of the ads I saw during the game.
Of course I have to admit that I did laugh out loud at the interception at the end of the game. I also laughed out loud at the off sides penalty that removed any possible doubt about the outcome. So I did get some laughs in.
I call bullshit on it. Most big breweries now are computerized and mass marketed. Most craft brewers have a beer in their fridge that the snobs wouldn't approve of
Hell, the brewmaster from budweiser is now the brewmaster at stone!!!
