special teams and Oline

Special teams were great except for their blocking. :)

The fact that they always started deep on their own side instead of the 50 or deeper shows its better as well.

That Roberts is getting good yardage is better.

Kickoffs are reaching the end zone.

I do see what Mike is saying though, I think the horror of those two plays today stood out so much, that it overshadowed any of the otherwise decent overall play that they did have. Mike is definitely right in that, decent is much better than cringe worthy awful every time they touched the damn ball like in recent years.

I have never seen anything like what JJ Watt did to us today. He almost could have beat us solo, that dude is a beast, I am glad we don't have to play them again.

Phil? Hey, Phil? Phil! Phil Connors? Phil Connors, I thought that was you!
Hi, how you doing? Thanks for watching.
Hey, hey! Now, don't you tell me you don't remember me because I sure as heckfire remember you.
Not a chance.
Ned... Ryerson. "Needlenose Ned"? "Ned the Head"? C'mon, buddy. Case Western High.
I did the whistling belly-button trick at the high school talent show? Bing!
got the shingles real bad senior year, almost didn't graduate? Bing, again.
I dated your sister Mary Pat a couple times until you told me not to anymore? Well?
Ned Ryerson?
Bing!
Bing.

Not sure why you posted this in here, but I laughed.

"Watch that first step. It's Dooh-hoosey."

I think he's saying today had a definite 'Groundhog Day' feel to it.

He and that guy who looked like Kevin Greene pretty much lived in the backfield.

I just hate seeing him get hammered in the backfield. We have so many weapons on offense and can't use them, it won't take long for players to start getting frustrated.

What bugs me is we did virtually nothing to spread their defense out. No downfield shots, not even a Hail Mary at the end of the Half. What was up with that? If anything else, it would make the CBs & Safeties stay honest. Instead, but the 3rd qtr, everyone was practically in the box seemingly knowing we weren't going to take our shots downfield.

I know the argument can be that he didn't have time for a long play to develop & I agree, but as fast as Jackson is, do a 5 step dropback & heave it. Let Jackson go up for it. I just didn't understand all the playcalling today.

don't know abt the rest of you...but above all else...that was one hell of a boring game! talk about offense geared to put one to sleep.

so...some of the comments have moved me to reevaluate RG3's performance. even so....there's still a long ways to go.

this has got to end. the 20+ year trend needs to be broken and this team truly become a professional outfit.

Yeah, I agree.

I heard orakpo and others all offseason saying how they were going to be "unleashed" and "no longer held back"(by evil mr shanahan I guess), and did rak even play today? I didn't see his number or hear his name all game.

I saw no consistent pressure or inconsistent pressure for that matter on a mediocre to below mediocre QB.

The early time out by RG3 was ridiculous to know if it's loud(roof closed) they have no game plan to get a snap off.(poor planning)

I saw no creativity in the offensive play calling. And coach Gruden(nfl experienced) get out coached by another rookie coach from the college level.

I've never been sold on J Reed because of what happened today. He's Greg oden just not as highly drafted.

DJax can obviously play and I hope the offense gets it together before he possibly tunes out.

Moss not active??? He should be, and he should be playing.

Helu is also a very important player. That should be called upon more since rg3 is not seeing open guys down field, I expect to see a bunch of dump offs in the near future till he gets his head right. Helu can do stuff with those dump offs.

The blocks are unexplainable to me, other than we are the redskins so we are the one team to be prone to having a kick and punt blocked in the same game.

They played to the level of the competition again. The team that drafted 1 overall is now 1-0 and I have a problem with that. It's not ok. It's not 1 game and just be cool because it's a marathon not a sprint or it's a sprint not a marathon or whatever. It's a pattern no matter who's coaching or QBing.

Two fumbles inside the ten is pathetic as well as very redskinlike.

Still my team but good lord this sucks.

what really bothers me is that we overpaid for rg3, I mean drastically overpaid, which could have still turned out ok if we put an oline in front of him but then after paying a ridiculous price, we did literally nothing to improve his protection. all the weapons in the world dont mean squat if the qb cant drop back to throw without being hit. the defence will get better by default, it simply cant get worse, but the pass protection, is gross and it will lead to the ruining of what should have been a legit qb. remember David Carr, another great qb prospect ruined by piss poor pass protection.

Well to me it's also an issue that we are trying the square peg round hole thing with Griffin to a degree. yea he needs to be reined in with the pocket passing but if you take away the mobility completely from a guy who's game is dependent on those legs to a large degree and it seems like more vintage cutting off your nose to spite your face stuff from the Redskins. Granted Griffin needs to learn how to throw a FREAKIN BALL AWAY (THAT FIRST SACK WAS ABSURD, IT WAS EMBARRASSING) -oops caps-, but once again the line is a complete joke, most of us knew it would be yet here we are stuck for yet another season. Ry is right, we're going to ruin this kid.

Special teams was terrible. Not spiking yourself on special teams should be expected, not praised.

If we were used to watching an average special teams unit we'd be horrified by our performance yesterday, but since we're used to seeing a unit that's atrocious on an epic scale, merely giving up 8 free points to the other team is "hey, that's pretty good."

And that, is pretty sad.

Orakpo was hurt - not to make excuses but he was a Gametime decision to even go. That may have been the issue with him. Not making excuses just reminding everyone.

Saying it's not doesn't change that its an excuse.

Regarding our OL, it was bad. Polumbus, as expected, was a disaster in pass protection.

Still, I did expect our offense to be a little more creative given the talent we have at the skill positions. No designed roll-outs. No particular use of Griffin's unique running ability. We knew going in that the OL was going to be the weak spot. Why didn't we account for that and play to our strengths? I don't know. I am underwhelmed by the coaching so far.

Still, it's a long season, so hopefully things will look better next week.
