Something Positive

Gruden is beginning to get it. I think his progression is on pace where I would expect a rookie head coach to be. Of course, butting up against the dreaded elimination game helps him get religion, but I think he fully understands the whole debacle of the team, just not quite sure yet how to go about fixing it. That's where his staff must come in and shore things up. He'll be forced into making coaching changes. So I'm in a good place with Gruden, by the end of the year he'll know exactly where he needs to take this team next off season.

Looks like of all people Desean Jackson is stepping into a vocal 'leadership' role to help rally the locker room. He was run out of town for apparently causing locker room problems, and he's the one to come forward saying they need to play together to be successful.
 
Yeah, the outsiders just coming in from 'winning' groups probably feel WTF is going on here.
Drama, Drama, Drama that really has not much to do with football. I imagine that they're used to media getting on them but not the flavor that seems to always percolate around this team.... too political and gossipy, more tabloid than sports page stuff.
 
The Redskins lead the league in the Yards After The Catch statistic as a team with 1, 460 yards on 211 receptions for a 6.92 yard average.


The Seahawks and Packers are second and third respectively at 6.67 yards and 6.42 yards.

Here is an individual breakdown on YAC per reception.

Roy Helu 12.8

Alfred Moris 10.4

DeSean Jackson 8.2

Niles Paul 7.0

Darrel Young 5.9

Andre Roberts 5.6

Pierre Garcon 5.3

Jordan Reed 4.8

Logan Paulsen 2.8


This obviously doesn't address any other components of the passing game but it does indicate that s a team we have players that are able to gain notable yardage after catching the ball-as a team, better than anyone else right at the moment.

We've wanted gamebreakers.. and well we have some. Our down field threats are valid for the first time in a long time. We went from, just a couple years ago, having a massive void in that area, to now having literally anyone who is consistently on the field and is allowed to touch the ball be able to take it to the house.
 
Agreed, ST. I think it also means our RBs are getting space and making people miss once they catch it out in the field.

I like that.

Can someone please tell me why this doesn't translate into wins? Has it not lead to scoring, what about scoring in the redzone? Seattle and GB don't seem to have any problem converting.
 
Probably could tell you...in a thread not about remaining positive ;)

Perusing the post bye injury reports .....

Some other interesting developments in this weeks practice report:


•Ryan Clark was a full participant in practice for the first time since injuring his ankles 8 weeks ago.

•Trent Williams does not appear on the injury report for the first time since dislocating his kneecap. He is normally limited for the first day of practice, then full go the rest of the week. In the week leading up to the Vikings game he was limited all week. The bye week was very needed here.

•Tracy Porter does not appear on the injury report for the first time since his first week of pee wee football in 1992. Just an amazing accomplishment here.

•Barry Cofield was activated yesterday, but does not appear on the injury report. Gruden said he's still getting back in to game shape and will be rotated in at NT and DE when he returns. Cofield revealed today that he had groin surgery during his time on IR for an injury he sustained in training camp. Cofield is returning from a high ankle sprain. He also had hernia surgery in the offseason.

•Leonard Hankerson is also returning from rehabbing an injury and doesn't appear on the report. Hankerson ACL surgery happened almost a full year ago, and he could be active this week

Here is my positive for this weeks game. I am so happy that we did not do the BGO tailgate today, and did it against the Titans.....
 
Trent Murphy had a couple of good plays.
 
Alfred Morris had a good game.
 
Morris didn't fumble
Reed was a factor when allowed
Griffins arm is strong and still accurate, he slid well, ran well, didn't do anything to hurt himself.

I had the exact same thought. Cold, miserable, in every sense of the word.
