Something Positive

Every relationship is different - people will give you advice along the way - and my advice is mostly to ignore it. We are all biased by what we've experienced (in both good ways and bad). You appear to have an incredibly tight relationship with your wife. What better place can you start than having your best friend as a spouse. Go Mike!

the wizened realist!

I'll stick with personal integrity. sustain that in all circumstances and life will move like the stock market - it'll have its dips...but over the long haul the growth will always be positive!

SO, my garage is now my office...we have it set up as such and every morning I open the garage door for some scenery.

For the past 3 months a hummingbird flies in and lands about 2 feet from me and just stares at me. it makes its chirping noises and ive now started talking to it. Its really the neatest thing in the world just about..

Within the past 2 days my son has:

cut a tooth
stood up in his crib
started crawling on all fours instead of commando style
walking up our legs and then standing
trying to actually communicate with babble instead of just staring and making nonsense noises
eating cracker puffs

When they said "watch out because it flies by" I didn't mean it would be all within a week!! This boy should be walking on his own around the 8 month mark. I'm not even sure how to handle that!!

A few things I've realized in the last two months:

It is possible to find someone who treats me like a king.

It feels REALLY damned good.

I deserve it.

(That last one is still hard to type, but it's true.)

Good idea for a thread! Especially after a loss, hahaha.

-First time parent, here. My daughter just turned ONE in Aug. Like Mike has been describing - it's AWESOME seeing her discover things for the first time in life. She has a few words in her arsenal now, she walks (but crawls when she really wants to book it), plays w/ the dog and pretty much eats any food we give her. She also tries to copy us and pretends any random toy/object is a phone and holds it to her ear and "talks". Good times.

-Dallas looked HORRIBLE. So, my "I'm from VA Beach but love the Cowboys" neighbor had nothing to say yesterday, haha. In all honesty, he's a good dude, though.

-And even though the Iggles came back - they don't look invincible.

downloaded "The Cult's greatest hits" the other day and I was very excited to listen to it. My wife has never heard of The Cult.....crazy, right?

Well, I didnt buy it so I was like, "Come on!! You dont know this song?!!" and I put on Fire Woman. She is just staring at me blankly as it starts up. So I decided she HAD to remember it if I sang along to it...blank stare. Now I am up, doing all the poses, giving her my best Mick Jagger poses and she just looks at me and says "you're ****ing weird".

"YEAH, WELL YOU DECIDED TO BREED WITH ME!!"

My son was whiny all morning while we did our normal routine. Whined while we were eating breakfast, whined while I did dishes, whined while we played. He finally just broke out in to full tears while we were sitting there playing and I said, "DUDE, WHAT?!"

He looked at me, crawled to me, put his head on my chest, and made this cooing sound that just melted me. He then fell asleep for the next ten minutes while I watched TV. He does this thing where he looks up at you while he is sleeping and barely wakes up, smiles, and then goes back to bed. Its like he is checking to make sure you are still there and is happy when you are.

That trumps anything bad that happened last night.

He's just having a bad day :) we all need a hug sometimes...if only I could find someone to give me one :)

Soak it all in brother - it all goes by so quickly #oldguytruth

I know and I do now big time. Most of the time at the moment he is going 10000MPH and doesn't stop until its night time bottle time and then he is out cold. When he does do that I have nothing better to do than sit down and hum to him while he gets his fill.

He also mocks me now which I find hysterical. We have yelling matches, he does raspberries, and last night when I pushed him down from all 4s to his face he sat up and gave me the "WTF!" look and I busted out laughing.

Plus, with 4 teeth now he looks so different. sounds weird but teeth make such a big difference to a face.

That's awesome, Mike! How old is your son? My daughter is 13 months. She is our first daughter. Before having her, when parents would say "it's the best thing that ever happens to you, time goes by fast, etc", I used thing, "yeah, I'm sure it's great, but ok." NOW, I truly understand - all that corny stuff is SO TRUE.

They really do put stuff into perspective.

My daughter LOVES peakaboo. No matter how many times in a row we play - SHE LOSES HER MIND laughing with 100% pure joy every single time. Little things like that are awesome.

hahaha...the laughter is really the greatest noise in the world!

he's a tad bit over 8 months old. dude is a freaking animal and its getting harder to contain him every day. I play the tickle monster with him now and he squirms and screams while the hands are "coming to get you" until I finally do.

Took the wife and boy down to Mission Beach at Belmont Park (Roller coaster) and walked the boardwalk down to crystal pier in Pacific Beach. We walked the pier and they actually have little cottage style houses ON the pier you can rent out for the night. Now, I dont know if I want to do that but that is a really cool idea. Round trip was about 3.6 miles. After that we stopped in a place for breakfast and a beer. I've always found if very funny about running early in the mornings where after you get to drink beers. It was 0830 when they poured me that beer but it was damn tasty.

Sunday the family and I went up in to the mountains (4000ft) to Julian and spent the day antique shopping and just wandering around a small town. It was 55 degrees when we got there...needless to say I was NOT prepared for that...lol Got some lunch but didnt find what we are looking for. She wants an old milk can so we can put fake sunflowers in it. Sounds really weird and not like something I would be in to but just being around her and my son makes pretty much any scenario great.

Last night her best friend came in from Colorado. He is a huge Chargers fan and went to the game with his son. She introduced him to lil butt and we watched some football, had some beers, and just shot the breeze. He pulled me aside after a while and said "I have never seen her this happy in her life, thank you" and I almost busted out in tears. That was a huge compliment to me.

"You make me laugh every day" - something when my wife says makes me smile inside.

My brother is getting married this weekend in Corolla, and we are spending the weekend at the beach! Just got here, enjoying our house with my folks and getting things ready. There will be a nice glass (or 5) of wine this evening on the deck overlooking the Sound, relaxing. I have been looking forward to this stay for quite a while.

Love that place! Some of the best surf trips I ever had as a teenager ended up there... Have a great time!

so, my son turns 9 months old today....and my wife is 6 weeks pregnant.

I told her I would "try to wait until after summer" and technically I did.
