Thanks for those! It's always good to hear direct quotes. I just had to get past the built in snark of some of the questions.
There were some things that jumped out of these for me.
- McCloughan had said it before, but continues to emphasize that you don't give up on a young QB who took you to the playoffs his rookie year and that this coming season is the key to determining his future.
- He said that need is more of a factor in the draft after round four. More specifically, if the team had a glaring need at guard and they got to round five without picking one, they'd more strongly consider a guard at round 5.
- Don't make the quarterback have to win or lose the game for you. Let's get him some stud offensive linemen, a damn good running game, and let's get a tight end that can stretch the field, and a couple receivers that make plays. Then all of a sudden that one guy becomes much better.
- You have to be careful giving up on a quarterback too early in the NFL.
