Site Upgrades This Week

Yeah... ditto. Glad we made the move!

Welcome Home GIF

I don't know about "speed performance improved" but it is definitely less glitchy. Sometimes I had problems with pages loading slower and I believe that was server-based, not network latency based. Anyways I do see an improvement. Thanks again

It’s significantly faster. We’ve measured :)

What did you use to measure? Tech guy, just curious

I don’t know what tool our tech guy used, but here are the speed results (from orevious to current)

I didn't know if there was a new tool, or not, that could measure performance based from a remote client. I know we can test network performance and we can test server performance, but not a holistic end to end performance. Just curious.

With those basic results it looks like we increased performance from a server perspective about 50%, more or less.

You should see the results we are getting from these new Nvidia GPUs it's absolutely insane 🤪

For those wondering, we moved to a better, faster server that is located in the DMV instead of the West Coast. Our speed checks show we should be significantly faster and peppier.
“Peppier” is a technical term.

While we're doing some upgrades...any way we can improve the game day chatroom experience? It's borderline impossible to react/reply to comments there because that context menu is on the far right of the screen and there's no visual indicator of what comment you're currently highlighting.

I need a smoother/quicker method of thumbs-downing all the "fire Quinn" comments in the first quarter of games...

Come on. Trying to react fast enough before the chat moves is like playing darts. It keeps you on your toes and brings excitement to your chats. :p

I *think* I may understand what you are saying here but I'm not positive. I believe you are referencing if you want to 'quote' or react to someone's chat post, it is tough to select the right row because it can be sort of a moving target and it is a very wide row making it difficult to ensure you are responding to your intended target - is that it?

I don't know that there is anything we can do about that. The Siropu chat add-on is one of the few that integrates well with Xenforo and it is by far the best chat software we have used. I can certainly look at settings but I doubt that is fixable. If we upgrade our Xenforo version later this summer as we plan on doing, we'll have to move to the next iteration of the chat software too so it could be something they've tweaked, I'm not sure.

I think that’s what he’s referencing. And I agree, if you want to “like” or reply to a specific post it can turn into target practice.

I love the chat feature. It is a bit challenging for that one feature.

I also don’t know how it could be “fixed.”

ExoDus84 - one 'functional' fix for this is to go to settings within chat and go to 'popout' mode. Then you can 'narrow' the chat window so it's not fullscreen (putting the 'like' and 'quote' and other chat response features right next to the actual chat posts. That would make it much easier to 'select' the response for the intended post you are responding to. Like I said previously, we are very likely upgrading to Xenforo 2.3 after the draft is done and that will require us to upgrade our chat software to a newer version - so it may look different anyway.

The move to the new server looks to have been a very positive one. I have reported one thing I've noticed - that the option to 'enable push notifications' is not 'sticking and I am getting constantly prompted on my laptop to set that preference even though I clicked it recently. Otherwise, the site is humming. We had a previous issue where the chat software was crashing the site and that has completely been resolved now.

a secondary option here is to tag the person you're referencing instead of quoting them, all you have to do is type the '@' symbol, then start typing their username and it will bring them up so you can tag them and type your response to their post. Though it wont be quoted, at least they will be pinged visually that you're responding to them in the chat.

That doesn’t help me down vote negative posts from you though!!!!

:p

(and while I get the comment about the chat moving quickly and it makes reacting to posts or quoting them more difficult, it doesn’t bother me.)
