Should Griffin Have Played Against the Bucs?

A lot of sports bettors would like that since right now we're 9½ point dogs.

The key to the opener is our jumping on them quick defensively. That really means multiple first quarter sacks, or better yet, forcing some early turnovers.

And how ironic would it be if we can knock Brees out of the game early on?

I don't know if we can contain the Saints WR's, so our best bet is to apply some major QB pressure. And I hope we pound the rock repeatedly - the longer we keep their offense off the field the better our chances. We won't win a shootout imho.

Absolutely, Boone.

With our secondary this year we cannot afford to allow a QB to pick us apart. Brees is one of the few QB's that are capable of really doing that. If our defensive line doesn't force quick decisions, get their hands up to bat balls (Brees is short!), and frustrate Brees it's going to be a rough game. We don't have the firepower to keep up with that offense.

Brees has shown in the past that he is vulnerable if you frustrate him; he will start making erratic throws. Get to him early and often and we might have a chance.

We need our offense to hold the ball for long stretches of time. Brees and company can't score sitting on the bench.
