Didn't see this elsewhere, and not seeing this reported much on typical media sites like ESPN. Happened upon it randomly on YouTube. Figured people here would be interested; maybe I missed it somewhere else.

I guess this just happened on Wednesday.

I appreciate his passion but it’s time for him to cease and desist with his blocking of movement on the land use issue.

Daines is not an inconsequential U.S. Senator. His action will not be abated by the influence of other members. He has to personally decide to move on.

Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.) was elected to serve as Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). The NRSC is the official campaign organization for Senate Republicans, and its mission is to support and elect Republican Senators and Republican Senate candidates nationwide.

When it says ‘campaign organization’ it means raising money for Senatorial candidates.

I wonder if this is why the owners haven’t looked too heavily into rebranding yet. Kind of wait to see how this all plays out and maybe you could bring the old logo back.

Although I think the old logo and name Commanders would be a stupid thing to have together. But perhaps if using the old logo was not frowned upon and they could choose a new name to go with it….

I'm not sure how likely it is, but the old logo would go great with my two favorite non-Redskin names (Warriors and Braves). Even if they rebranded to the spear helmet and were able to use the Indian-head logo as throwbacks, that could be cool.

That certainly would make sense but we really have no idea if they have spent some, a lot, or zero bandwith on the subject.

My problem is that at this point Daines, representing both his views and those of a part of his constituency, is attempting to pit the new ownership group against the NFL, corporate America, and those with different societal views over the desire to locate the franchises new home field in D.C. It seems more likely that all he is going to accomplish if he persists is landing the new stadium in Maryland.

So they’re actually mad now.

They weren’t mad before. But they are now.

you can’t make this shit up.

Where are all the white people decided this is so offensive? How are they gonna deal with this?

Oh that’s right. They’re nowhere to be found cause they never gave a shit to begin with.

This is plain BS. Why does this matter on the floor of the Senate? They don't have other things to worry about?

The team should be located in DC. I hope it happens, but have to wait and see.

What a frustrating mess this continues to be. If Dan Snyder had just an ounce of common sense he would have just read the room and changed the name to Washington Warriors in 2013 and we wouldn’t be here now. People would be totally over this by now.

Another facet of this though, and I largely agree with the senator, the logo WAS actually criticized while all this was going on. The zealots pushing the change made it abundantly clear on several occasions they wanted ALL of the Native imagery gone and even went so far as to say the colors should be changed. I 100% agree with the senator that our culture “overcorrected” in 2020, but it did because the whole thing had become so toxic and such a distraction there was little choice. Nobody was defending any of it until it was gone, and in my opinion it’s too little too late.

I think there is a solution that could be easy to do, put the old logo on the field at the entrance to the locker room. Not on the playing field. This would allow the team the use of the old logo in an openly public part of the field and not on the actual playing field

easy solution is put the old logos on the old helmets with the old uniforms and then "you and everybody else" can call us whatever you want

The white liberals who love to tell other people how they should feel have gleefully moved on to the next outrage. Gotta be upset at something or life is not worth living. /sarcasm

Josh Harris may be the guy to do it and do it smoothly tbh. He's well liked, well-respected, and would handle the PR so much better than anyone from the previous ownership disasterpiece.

I don't think the team is ever going back to Native American imagery or names again. They've already said that 'Redskins' will never come back. Once you've said that, it's throws into question why they would go back to any kind of Native-themed name or imagery. I think there is also a generational difference in terms of POV (such as the one that Hoffman embraces) where there is a stricter set of beliefs generationally in terms of what is appropriate when it comes to using any group as the basis of a mascot. Folks of my generation may find those objections silly, but that doesn't negate the fact that younger fans may view it differently. As some have rightfully pointed out, the team may be more focused on future generations of fans, vs. the 60 and older crowd like mine that grew up with a different mindset.

I'm with Chris on this Senator. He is basically holding the stadium effort hostage to a single issue. I don't think it will have any major impact and whether I agree with the idea driving it, I still think it's an inappropriate way to hamstring the team and force it to do what many want them to do. The Harris group doesn't seem to me to be made up of guys who are going to be bullied into any particular decision.

I think fans who are hanging their hat on a return to a Native American-themed team identity of any kind are setting themselves up for disappointment. Just my opinion, but I don't think the team wants to go there. They will probably allow the old Redskins logo and other native imagery to be used for historical purposes and celebrations but I think they will draw the line at going in that direction in the future.

Senator Daines is currently the ranking member of the Senate National Parks subcommittee and on January 20th will become the Chairman. Depending on just how long he persists in his efforts, he can absolutely have a material effect on keeping the bill buried in the subcommittee indefinitely or allowing it to die from a lack of progress.

Unless someone within the Senate (or perhaps the WH) that possesses more power and/or influence tells him move it along, the ball is firmly in his court. Considering that the Senate has more than enough on it’s plate currently, I don’t see this as an issue that will be at the top of any of his senior cohorts minds.

Not really. The House is not the problem. Maneuvering past Daines and his blockade in the Senate is the problem.

On Tuesday, Daines said he would support the bill – with the condition that the Commanders honor its commitments to "restore the logo to prominence."

^^^
Wonder how that will be accomplished.
