I've never felt brutally pragmatic is the way to go. Maybe that's because I grow up in the Gibbs era where the super-core players were kept a year or two to long and loyalty mattered. With the bulk of the players, it can just be business, but I do think some teams deserve a bit of deference. I think Terry may be one of those guys. I think he represents everything Quinn and Peters want in a player. He's a great role model, selfless, and very good on top of it. You keep those guys because, if nothing else, you need mentors to show the team how it's done. Sometimes, you can import that as we did with Wagner, but I think there are certain players you bend for. Believe it or not, Donnie Warren was that guy for Gibbs. Warren wasn't that talented. He wasn't much of a receiver. Wasn't fast. But no one out toughed him or outworked him. It's great when that guy is also a marquis player. McLaurin is that but every great team has some ten year vet who sticks despite being past their prime.
So, for most of the players, le't be brutally pragmatic. Sadly, I expect Tress Way not to be hear much longer. I think Jonathan Allen who had been a core of the team has lost that role to Luvu and Wagner and so he no longer is untouchable. McLaurin for me is a guy you have to try to bring back. Maybe Terry prices himself out of our range. If so, so be it, but if it's in the ballpark even if it's a little too pricey for diminishing returns I think you try to keep Terry as long as you can.
